Last night, it took 15 minutes after we sat down for someone to just ask us, "has anyone helped you?" Twice when we ordered pupusas for our toddlers with drink orders, the kids' pupusas don't arrive until AFTER everyone else's main dishes have arrived (and after we have to remind the waitress). Cocktails have been forgotten, which we have had to remind them on as well. To our server's credit, she apologized many times and said the restaurant just got super busy at once. However, we noticed other tables (who arrived after us) were attended to and served sooner than we were. Given all the disorder, our family has decided we are just going to get takeout. The food is still excellent, but we are frustrated with the service.

This is the best burrito in all of Tacoma/Lakewood!!! I tell everyone to try them. People don't know what they are missing, because they are just getting pupusas. Who would think they would have great burritos. So, these are not like any other burritos, because they are not Mexican. They use their delicious black beans, their white rice with a few little veg, sour cream, onions, cilantro, you can get really good chile sauce if you want it spicy. The sauce is so good. No cheese... can you believe it? Cheese is not even needed. You can get chicken or carne asada, or like we got, no meat and they will add avocado slices. I really wanted no meat, and platano frito added. This is what we used to get, and it's great. They should add a no meat option to the menu, and also the platano option. But in the last few weeks we have gone passed it they aren't open and there is a sign on the door saying they are closed for seep cleaning. I never owned a restaurant and neither do I know how long a deep cleaning could take. I suppose it varies depending on what is being cleaned. But as of 5/9/26 the restaurant remains closed. The last social media post from Facebook was January of '26. The website associated with this profile on Yelp doesn't seem to be working and neither does the website associated when you Google them which is very concerning. Hopefully they will be open again soon and none of this is subtleties amounting to a permanent closure.

So, I parked - I found a street parking around the corner. It's a small establishment with an ADA bathroom. You can go and order with the staff, or you can order with a kiosk. I happened to do both! I asked the server who told me later that he was the cousin of the owner and el Salvadoran, what he would recommend. I ended up getting Combo 2 which is two tacos and a pupusa (which I've never had). Both I got pork and pupusa he said to get pork and cheese. I liked it ALL. Although the puousa is made of corn and tasty, I prob wouldnt order it again. I really, really liked the two tacos. The seasoning and taste was delicious!!! I am craving it right now as I am writing this review. They gave me condiments - 3 different hot sauces which I liked the avocado one which was a great creamy sauce. And there 3 pieces of lime and cut radishes. Plus, there were pickled onions which was tasty! I asked a lot of questions because I wanted to eat them all the way he would so The server told me to put the pickled onions on the pupusa. Oh, that made a huge difference. So delicious!!! Next time, I am just going to get 4 tacos - yep 4! lol and may try a burrito just to see how that is. I ended up getting a Jarrisco with Tamarind flavor. Oh it was a sweet and perfect complimentary drink. I will def be back! Really enjoyed it.

When we saw what we received, we honestly couldn't believe that was what we had paid for. The price is completely disproportionate to the size of the product. There's a difference between charging more for an artisanal product and setting prices that make customers feel like they're being taken advantage of. For $50, you expect to receive something that actually justifies the price, not something so small that you're left wondering how it could possibly cost that much. We left extremely upset and disappointed. As customers, we feel like we wasted our money. They seriously need to reconsider their prices and be much more transparent about the size of what they're selling. To me, this isn't offering a premium product; it's charging an outrageous price for a minimal amount. I want to rant and rave about El Sabor Casero. I want to climb the building and start shouting to everybody near by that this place is legit! Unfortunately that would make everybody think I am crazy, so here is my digital building that I have climbed upon to let you know, El Sabor Casero is awesome! First off, they have California Burritos, and they taste just like the ones from California. Their menu is kind of everywhere, you really don't know where to go and some of the things have no real pictures of explanation, but they sound good. Luckily I used to eat this kind of food dag gon near everyday and armed with google to look up what the items are, you'll be in for a treat. Secondly you might have to just ask for random things and they will more than likely have it, even though they aren't listed anywhere. Horchata and Jamaica drinks are there but it doesn't show them anywhere. Also they have kids meals, also not listed. I thought the kids meals would be meh, but I was wrong, their beans are quite delicious and the rice is above par. The quesadilla can be gotten plain or with chicken and steak. Whenever I am in the area for lunch, this is my first thought. I truly love El Sabor Casero, my #1 mexican place in Poulsbo. read more

Omg, I never thought this place was going to be even close to authentic Mexican-Salvatorian food. I was in shock when I tried their amazing and delicious dishes. The Enchiladas Caseras wow to die for. Everything I had tried starting with pupusas to Quesadillas caseras are amazingly delicious and authentic flavors. Plus the owners are very nice and friendly people, they treat you like a family. My Puerto Rican friend says that she feels Mexican when she eats at El sabor casero. I sincerely recommend this amazing place. M. May read more
