I appreciate that she is fully trustworthy and ethical, as opposed to some dentists I have encountered who are in a rush to do unnecessary or questionable work. I went to a dentist in Arizona several years ago, Dr. Keven Cook, who told me I had 3 cavities, showed me what looked like plausible cavities in my molars with his fancy camera equipment, and tried to schedule fillings. Luckily I trusted my gut and did not get the fillings, and Dr. Henke has verified for several years now that I actually have zero cavities. The other staff is great too. You can easily schedule to keep seeing the same hygienist consistently if that's important to you, but I've seen several, and they were all good. If you can't tolerate the ultrasonic scaler/scraper technology that the hygienists use to clean the teeth due to the vibrations, sound, etc., you can request hand cleaning the old fashioned way.

First I had x-rays, which I didn't mind because they have an electronic x-ray machine that stitches together a panoramic view of the mouth. No more cardboard bite wings poking me in my cheeks and throat (I have a very small jaw.) Then they probed my gingival pockets. I got a gold star on my report card for having healthy gums. All that flossing pays off, people! My last dentist never did that gum check for some reason. It was explained to me that they do it every other year to track periodontal health. Then the cleaning. We started with the polishing, which is the opposite of how it had been done to me for many years. I have to say, it worked better to have the crunchy stuff first, then the rest of the cleaning rinsed my mouth clean, so I didn't leave the office still crunching on pumice. This office has an ultrasonic scaler, which is the professional version of the ultrasonic toothbrush that I have at home. It took me quite a while to get used to my toothbrush. It tickled like crazy. So I can imagine that if you're not accustomed to the tickling, the scaler at the dental office might be a bit uncomfortable, but definitely let them do it this way. The scaler uses water to cool the cleaning head so that your delicate tissues don't overheat from the vibrations. So you get a steady trickle of water that eventually washes all the pumice away. The reason the ultrasonic scaler is way better: less time using that metal probe to flick off the crusty gunk. I hate it when the wire gets caught in between two teeth, prying them apart and making me fear that something bad might happen when the hygenist rips that puppy out from between my swaying bicuspids. So I am definitely a fan of the ultrasonic scaler! I came home and as a joke, I said to my husband, "So, do you notice anything different?" as I showed him my teeth. He said, "Yes, they're whiter!" I am totally happy with this new dentist, her hygenist and the office staff. I am so glad I finally made the switch. Open 8am~5pm Mon~Thu (Closed Fri, Sat & Sun, though you can call if you have a dental emergency.)

We were dreading this process because we've heard stories from other people of the frustrations they've faced when trying to find a new dentist, and unfortunately, had our own bad experience at a dentist. We tried another dentist in the Woodhaven area when we were still living Downriver, which was only a few minutes from our house, in order to avoid a longer commute to the dentist and regretted doing it because they were focused more on selling needless items and procedures than they were on customer service and care. We quickly returned to our former dentist and gladly put up with the longer drive. Fortunately, the terrible experience we had at that particular dentist taught us a lot about finding a new dentist after we moved. After moving, we researched every dentist within a certain radius from our house in the Livonia area. When I say every dentist I literally mean EVERY dentist within that particular radius. It was time consuming but well worth our efforts. After narrowing it down to several dentists we waited a few days and then reviewed our listing again to narrow it down to three dentists. Once again, we sat the list aside and revisited it a few days later and narrowed it down to two dentists. After reviewing all of the reviews of the final two dentists on Yelp, Google and Facebook, and after visiting each dentist's website to read the reviews that were listed there, to view the photos of the offices, and to compare office hours, we decided to go with Livonia Dental Care. We had our first visit yesterday and walked away very happy. We like the fact that they have extended office hours that fit into our busy lives. Even though the initial visit is scheduled to take 1.5 hours we were able to get a late evening appointment rather than having to leave work early. We were greeted quickly upon entering and was pleased with the friendliness of the front desk staff. As we sat down to complete the new patient paperwork we noticed that the office was clean, bright and contemporary. We especially liked the fact that the TV wasn't tuned to a news channel. There's nothing worse than going to a medical office of any sort and having to sit and endure all of the depressing and negative news stories. Instead, their TV was tuned to either HGTV or the DIY Channel, which helped to create a comfortable feel in the waiting area. We were called back to begin our initial visit shortly after completing the paperwork. Again, it was nice to be in the exam room without a TV blaring the news. Instead, the large screen TV that was on the wall actually showed the results of my x-rays as they were being taken. Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself. The hygienist assigned to me was Angela. For the initial visit, they take photos of your teeth & mouth, as well as x-rays, and they ask all of the necessary questions regarding medical history. Angela was professional and explained everything in detail during the entire process. My wife and I were both pleased with the level of technology that the office was using. They had machines that we had not seen at our prior dentist that helped them learn more about my teeth and know what areas needed attention. The dentist, Dr. Ali, visited with me once the tests were completed to go over the results and answer any questions I had. He patiently went over the results and never gave the impression that he was rushed or was in a hurry even though it was now later in the evening. After Dr. Ali completed his consultation Angela began the cleaning. She was thorough but gentle during the entire process. One simple thing that I enjoyed was being able to choose the flavor of the polish that was used during the cleaning. They have mint, vanilla and cherry flavors of polish. I chose the mint and was satisfied with the taste. As I mentioned earlier, the initial consultation was scheduled for 1.5 hours but, in our case, only took less than one hour. At the end, rather than just giving us a toothbrush and floss we were given a nice welcome gift of a coffee mug with various items in it. Also, we were given a card that had the dentist's cell phone numbers on the back in case of a dental emergency. I've listed a number of good things about the office but the thing that really sealed the deal for us is that neither Angela nor Dr. Ali tried selling us any products or any unnecessary procedures. This was the one thing my wife and I were on guard for during our first visit and were willing to move on to another dentist if that were to occur. We were both happy to leave the dentist office and not have to endure the constant sales pitches or the pressure to have unnecessary procedures done. Overall, we can happily say that we have found a new dentist and will recommend Livonia Dental Care to anyone that is looking for a dentist.

But honestly i don't feel that bad here. Of course I'm still scared but they make you feel comfortable they make sure your ok. They even have Netflix for you to watch while you get your work done!! I've had a horrible tooth pain and they got me the earliest appt they could. It was a week out and I figured that would be fine. It became a lot worse I called almost in tears, most places if they are booked that's it they can't help. But not here. Even tho they knew they couldn't do any work on me they still brought me in that day to get X-rays done to see what was going on and at least to start me on pain meds and antibiotics for the infection. BEWARE!!! I recently had a cleaning services. My hygienist…read moresaid that, oh your insurance covers 100% of fluoride treatment. I said, Im 50 y.o. I may not need it, but if it is covered 100%, why not, use every benefit that we are paying for. So, weeks later, I received a bill about $47 for that service. Then, of course I had to call their office and made an argument of what my hygienist said. The dental staff said, and, I was told that my Blue Cross dental insurance made a mistake. From there, I knew they were already lying. For the sake of verifying, I called my dental insurance and asked about the coverage. I was told that the coverage for fluoride is only up to 19 y.o. and that guideline has been set since the beginning, decades ago. So, they knew then that it was not covered. They think that maybe all patients are ok with that. For me, this is one of those revenue-generating schemes, so BEWARE!!! Addendum: 7/2/25 So, they responded that my dental insurance states that coverage is age 4 and up, so again, I just called my dental insurance again to verify what this dental office states. I verified with my dental insurance that it was clearly stated that age is UP TO 19 y.o. This dental office knew then it was not covered, but told me it was. We supposed to make an informed decision by what they say. This dental office states that they are transparent. TRANSPARENCY is best shown in actions, not in words, JUST NEED SOME ACCOUNTABILITY.
