Every staff member I've encountered here is brilliant. An autoimmune disease caused havoc to my oral health and I was so embarrassed and in pain. Will NOT go back. In Jan. I had an exam/x-rays with dentist - no issues with teeth at all. In May I went here for exam/x-rays - was told I needed 2 crowns, a filling, and deep root cleaning and scaling. I did get one crown and then went to another dentist for a 2nd opinion. Went for 2nd opinion - no issues at all. I am so angry I let them do a crown at all because I probably did not need it. How could 2 dentist report no issues and this place a slew of work that needed to be done? Unethical. read more

Our family has been using Preferred Dental for 7 or so years now. Dr. Heys, Dr. Zimmerman, and the others are phenomenal! My mother cannot use most drugs ending in -caine so she does a lot of her dental work done without numbing. Dr. Z takes great care of her! She only trusts PDG for her work. Dr. Heys did Invisalign on my teenage brother to straighten his teeth. It worked very well and it was reasonably priced. I know most people do not like dentists, but I have not had a bad experience yet. The hygenists are all friendly and thorough with their cleanings. The ladies at check in and check out are also friendly and helpful. Top notch equipment and services, too. They have eased my mind about going to the dentist after years of going to subpar dentists. They take Delta Dental for us. I really recommend them to everyone! read more

7 years later and it was time to replace the crown I had previously written about. I reread my review to update it and I have to say how pleased I am to report that the experience was almost exactly the same--gentle, efficient and attentive. Fantastic dental group!! I have been coming here for about 30 years and while I haven't always gotten along with the staff up front, I have always loved the work the doctors and dental assistants have done. My hygienist, Julie, has always been amazing. When rare occasions when she has been unavailable, I have been well treated by the other hygienists. Of course, throughout the years my family and I have had some not so favorite hygienists or a dentist that we were less likely to see, but Dr. Regula, Dr. Zimmerman,and Dr. Heys have been fantastic and my family has seen all of them at some point. As for the reviews on here where mistakes were made around dental insurance, it's a patient's job to review their insurance and make sure that providers are still in-network before they go to their appointment. I know it's a pain, but I always check insurance for all provider types to ensure that everything is in place before my family or I make an appointment. read more

My family has used Preferred Dental for a few years now, even my 8 and 3 year old. They are so great with the kids and getting them to have a pleasant experience! I just got my first crown and it feels weird to praise them for doing extensive work but they really went above and beyond. I thought the tooth was just going to be extracted but Dr. Saigal was determined to keep the tooth in place. And Amy was a great cheerleader and paid close attention to my comfort. I really appreciate their care and concern for my oral health as well as my dental experience. We moved from Livonia to Farmington Hills and now drive 16 miles to go to the dentist, passing countless other dental offices. It is definitely worth the drive! read more

I had a previous dentist for 15 years, and came to Preferred 8 years ago when my old dentist didn't have flexible hours and my new husband raved about his dentist. I have had no regrets about the change! About the refer a friend card: I received the movie tickets, even though it was not my first visit (on my 2nd visit or so). Within the last few months, my sister-in-law received the referral so my family has not had any issues with this. I have not had one specific dentist over the years--Mostly Dr. Zimmerman but he was on vacation, and was covered by Dr. Hagelthorn yesterday (day after New Year's). I had a crown and filling placed. In 1992 I had an unscrupulous dentist tell me that all of my fillings needed to be replaced. Since they only have a life span of 20 years--they are needing to be replaced now but are so big they are crowns--hence, each year, we pick the "worst one"; e.g., cracked tooth and core/crown it. Since a crown is $2000, it meets my maximum for my dental insurance and everything else for the year is out of pocket. The office has been very gracious with me--a few months ago when I bought my house, they extended a month "grace period" to pay my fees (as long as I placed a deposit). They have always treated me with a "treatment plan" prior to my appointment so I was fully aware of the costs--they are consistent with other dental offices--dental care is expensive!!! Dr. Hagelthorn and Julie his assistant were very gentle with me and monitored me closely for discomfort. What impressed me most was that Dr. H called me at home last night to ensure that I was comfortable! Talk about customer service!! I should mention that I am a nurse anesthetist and perform sedation in several offices around metro Detroit (more than a dozen) so I have watched many, many dentists perform root canals, implants, and extractions among other procedures. Many are "rough" since they assume the patient is sedated and I'm medicating them (IMHO) so it was a pleasant surprise for me to be in the chair and to see it from the patient's perspective and to be delighted at the care and gentleness that Dr. H and Julie took with me. In all the years I have been coming here, I have never had a hygienist perform outside of her scope of practice. I cannot say the same for some of the offices where I perform sedation--where it's expeditious (and cheaper) to have ancillary staff perform complicated tasks in order to fast-track patients. I have never felt like I was rushed out the door, and they even took time to explain my panorex x-rays to me in depth (and why I should see an oral surgeon to get my wisdom teeth removed because it is too complicated for them to perform--I have worked at other offices where they risk a patient's nerve damage from a horizontal bottom wisdom tooth--and not referred it out--because it is more $$$ or arrogance perhaps). I know this is a lengthy review, but I tried to hit each negative point with an opposing viewpoint. I'm not certain another office could have done a better job with the negative reviews..... I have nothing but high praises to state about this office and have referrred my sister-in-law and coworkers in the past. Going to the dentist can be a scary, costly venture--but Preferred makes is a pleasant and bearable experience. read more

Very unhappy with the fillings that Dr. Vamal Saigal did. I am in so much pain that it is waking me up at night! I went in afterwards because of the pain and the fact that I noticed a hole in one of the teeth he drilled on and he said that the hole was already there. That it was just how the tooth formed, but no decay was present. If it was drilled the day before, would decay be present? Anyway, I also question the amount of fillings that he said I needed being that I have only had 3 cavities in my 36 years of life. And one visit with him, I need 14 fillings! Mind you, I regularly go to the dentist. Anyway, a friend originally referred me to him and I wish that she hadn't! I'm so disappointed with my visit. Now I have to get a second look at the work done, and hope that I don't need a root canal from what feels like one or more infected teeth. read more

DO NOT I SAY AGAIN DO NOT USE THIS DENTAL OFFICE. I was going here for years I WAS NOT provided information that this Dentist is no longer in the Blue Care network I was charged for out of network. This has happened on two prior occasions when money wasn't being sent directly to the dentist office. It was explained to me on prior occasions bill was sent to insurance incorrectly and to disregard checks sent to me directly. The two prior occasions bill was fixed no further explanation. Finally 3rd time around someone at Blue Care Network informed me the provider was no longer in network and that check could no longer be sent directly to dentist. Mind you I had a dental cleaning and xrays received $340.00 dollar bill with note your insurance has paid all they authorised. So checks sent to me prior were payment 233.00. and I was shredding them do to what I was informed on two prior occasions. Now Blue Care Network reissued check for $233.00 and I'm responsible for the rest of bill. Blue Care Dental Network and this dentist office are both being replaced. Save yourself the troubles and go elsewhere you will be happy for the peace of mind. I'm still amazed it took three separate visits with no one explaining my insurance wasn't paying directly because dentist wasn't in network. No one at the dentist informed me of this and when I asked their billing department was told someone should of informed me prior to getting work done. So after all the calls trying to figure out what was going on Blue Care Network informed me of the problem. Troubling ethics beware. read more

Do not go here unless you want the hygienists and dentists to perform cleaning procedures or unnecessary exams without first checking with your insurance provider. Even after asking the billing manager why I had to pay over $300 when it was their fault for not checking with my insurance company, she was unwilling to do anything about the situation. All the hygienists badmouthed the management while working on me and one dentist jammed a needle to numb me into my gums and straight into my bone! It hurt so bad! When I returned the next time I told the hygienists that I never wanted to have this dentist again. She and another dentist laughed and said this dentist was known for being a little "rough" with patients. The refer a patient program is a joke also. My husband gave me a card to fill out for free movie tickets for referring me. When I presented the card on my second visit (a week later) they denied me the movie tickets because I was supposed to present the referral card on my first visit. When I pointed out it did not say that on the card they told me they are in the process of printing new cards that do say it. When I asked what they can do for the current card, they told me they can leave it for one of the managers who will contact me... I never received that call. The worst service ever! read more

I take my senior mother to Preferred Dental for the many appointments she needs for her dental work. The staff accommodates her lack of mobility and other ailments with thoughtfulness and respect. They know she cannot wait/ sit too long and always get her in at her appointment time without much if any waiting. Lauren & Mary Beth are very kind and efficient hygienists and make my Mom's procedures less hideous. read more

Even if your insurance will not cover it, they will first suggest, and then force you to accept uncovered xrays and fluoride treatments that they claim are necessary, even though considered optional by your insurance company. Dental care is not supposed to be more expensive than medical care. Be careful before you consider treatment at preferred dental. read more

First 25 minuets late going back for my appointment. Then the routine cleaning well it turned into what is now going to be multiple visits . The real turn off was trying to schedule the things that need to be done the person I dealt with was rude and acted as though I was an inconvience or waste of her time. Seriously considering finding a new dental provider as I have 2 very good insurance providers so there arelots of options. Forget the Celebrity Hype and go somewhere else! I'm sure the celebrities get the Royal Treatment, all I got was shoddy work. Seemed like every time I had work done - I was in more pain than before and it needed to be re-done. If they are so great, why do they constantly have Dentists leaving? When you ask for Dr. "xyz" - you are curtly told "He's no longer with us..." Seems Fishy to me. The only one there who seems to be consistent and competent is Dr. Young (who has his own office and comes to P.D. only for surgeries) After 2 years I had enough of the run around and giving the benefit of the doubt and went elsewhere. I speak from experience as well when I say that this dental office has issues! The entire staff at that office are continually at odds! There seems to be constant staff turn over and quality customer service is severely lacking. The group relies on their slogan of being the "Red Wings Dentist" to hold weight and imply some kind of superiority in dentistry because of it. This could not be farther from the truth! My impression was that the main dentist is an arrogant person who doesn't even bother to get to know you as a person, you are just an average face in his day filled with celebrities. There are some nice staff there, but the majority come off as very catty towards one another and focused on the latest office gossip rather than on my care. Regarding performing procedures without checking dental benefits...it really is you as the patient to know your benefits not the dental office. I know that seems challenging, but if you have any type of treatment or service performed you are ultimately responsible for ALL charges whether you expected them or not. However, if you were not informed before hand about what to possibly expect as far as co-pays were concerned then I can see how you would be upset. But I am not surprised that they didn't go over that with you before hand, or that after the fact they wouldn't do anything to help rectify the situation! I stopped going there after many attempts to give them the benefit of the doubt; I stayed way too long!
