I have seen many times where the products sold are past the "Use by" date and contains insects/ bugs in many products. I have reported this to the store owner and he does not seem to care about it. Recently, I purchased a bag of brown rice which has several worms and the store owner does not bother to address my complaint. They don't handle perishable food well. Avoid this store. Sold us rotten food and then would not take responsibility for the return. Been going there for years and recently we bought a batch of paneer. One of the blocks was rotten. The others were all done because we'd put them all in the fridge as soon as we got home. They said that we'd likely not have handled it properly though the other pieces were fine. After shopping there for years, they would not stand behind their product to a customer over a $15 block of cheese. Overpriced by 20-30%, poor quality produce that's usually rotting, soft and old. Customer service is absolutely horrible and they aggressively handle your groceries. They don't itemize their prices properly and even lie about inconsistent prices (vegetable paratha is $1.99, but aloo paratha which is also a vegetable, is $2.49. No one knows why. They lie and say that one has 4 parathas and I point out that the number of parathas per package are the same, they lie again). Their frozen sections and selection of instant chai brands are good. I try and avoid this place if I can there are better alternatives in Redmond and Bothell. People who don't know much about indian food will likely call this place the dream, this store is far from it. read more

Indian food sanctuary. For real I took the ingredients from the pre package authentic glass jars like Tikka masala, vindaloo, and tindoory sauce(bought meats at Freddy's). I entered the store and was heartened that after all this time (7-8 years?) the store owner still remembered me. We smiled and shook hands and commented on how long it had been. He asked me how my partner was, in that soft way you ask when you're not sure if people are still together. I told him we had broken up long ago. I asked him if they still sold his mother's homemade samosas, the delicious item I had nostalgically come in for. He told me his mother had gotten older, and could no longer make them. So I ended up buying chili sauce, okra, and a mass produced box of lamb seekh kebabs. He told me the kebabs were delicious, and that I would hopefully come back for more. Count on it. Good place to get daily groceries, indian frozen items, yogurt, rice and snacks. They have very few vegetables but I can usually find cilantro, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, okra, gourds, eggplant etc. I like to buy things from here for a quick grocery haul instead of going to Bel road. You can buy pending items from near by fredmeyer or qfc. This is my secret to go store where there is less crowd or somebody shows up for dinner uninvited read more

Excellent customer service! They always proactively help us to get the right thing/ or order it if we ask. My family regularly shops at this grocery for the past year. They have good organic products, lot of variety in terms of flour/lentils/grains/snacks/veggies and the best part is the quality. I have not seen any product with a close to expiry timeline put on their shelf. They do stock festival stuff like sweets/dandiya sticks/diyas at appropriate prices. If you want to buy indian/Pakistani(aka desi food) and need lots of choice, vegetables etc then this is not the place for you. However if you need a quick standard buy and you live near here. Then this place is the bees knees. The woman manning the store is very nice and helpful. If only it had more choice then I wouldn't have to drive all the way to Uwajimaya for my asian fix ( Surprise!! India is in asia too.. look up a map). read more

Amazing service and courteous treatment every time I visit! Produce items are always fresh, and when not, store employees are always willing to bring out fresher items when possible. Employees go out of their way to find things and restock shelves when low. So much variety and quality! Owners are so humble and respectful, unlike some other Indian grocers in the vicinity - where I've been met with arrogance, been taken for granted, and blocked from entering their stores 15 minutes before closing as they are in a hurry to not work any more than they have to, while I have traveled from one hour south after work, to come shop at their business! This is a small Indian store carrying a fair-good selection of Indian grocery/food/frozen items. Some of the main reasons I like this place are: * good selection of frozen, snacks, some produce, juices, and pickles/mixes * only Indian store I know of in Kirkland, and walkable distance from Courtyard Marriott = great for lazy people like me :) * very cheap Parle-G biscuits - $0.25 a pack (~20-30 biscuits/pack) * small store = less crowd Things that I think can use improvement: * increased selection of produce items - even in the small place * more friendly customer service - the main person I see that runs this shop hardly cracks a smile and doesn't ask anything like "found everything okay?" or even "how are you?" - maybe its because I've always come at the end of the day, but eh... * refrigerated and frozen sections are scattered in different parts of the store, rather than all in the same place - not a huge deal as the store is quite small, but just seemed a bit odd to me Please note: Credit Cards accepted only if total is $10.00 or more. It's very close to us so we go there often for Indian food needs. PROS: 1. Pretty good selection - They have most of the stuff the bigger stores carry, the groceries section is small, but we prefer Whole Foods for that anyway 2. Friendly and helpful staff 3. Good prices - on par or cheaper than the Indian stores in Redmond CONS: 1. Some of the stuff can be expired - Check the dates!!! Or if you can't find the expiration date don't buy it! The few times I've visited Saagar I have found it to be decently clean and organized for an Indian grocery. The gentleman behind the counter was very sweet and kind. I bought some fresh baklava which was really amazingly wonderful. I really love how stores like this make fresh homemade treats! I stopped in last night to pick up some tahini so that I could try making home made humus spread. I couldn't find it on the shelves, so I asked for help from the person working there. He showed me right where it was and helped me pick out some good canned humus too. I also bought nan bread and some sauces. I felt like the prices were reasonable for a specialty store. That isn't to say that they were inexpensive. But the prices were in line with what I've seen at other specialty shops. They also had a good assortment of rice, sauces, candies, spices, and so on. I showed up at this store around 10:05 am and there was no one there, the store was dark and the door was locked. The hours sign says they are supposed to be opened at 10 am. I had to wait around for about 20 minutes until the person that ran the store finally showed up around 10:25 am. I lose a lot of respect for a business that can't open on time and be available when they say they will be. People have schedules and have to be able to plan so they can be on time to other engagements. With that said, the clerk was really nice and they did have what I was looking for (Garam Masala) for a very reasonable price. read more

Worst Indian grocery store. I got rotis that turned out to be rotten not once but thrice. The owner was very rude and said he cannot do anything about it since he didn't make the rotis. Seriously? You're stocking rotis and selling them. Atleast make sure they are good quality products considering they are not cheap. Cozy little Indian grocery shop in Kirkland area and right on the bus route 255, a big plus for me. Prices are okay (relatively costly compared to Redmond stores) but you'd get all the basics here. Produce section is very limited, good selection of frozen vegetables that would seem to cover the basic needs. For the munchies, they have giant bags of Haldirams at economical rates :) read more
