It improved my focus immensely. An example of this is learning the tornado round house kick. To learn the kick, you must master all of the steps. Another example is learning the Deputy Black Belt form. The Deputy Black Belt form is very complex and requires a lot of skill and effort. The instructors at USTA also deserve some credit. I may joke around sometimes but they are always getting straight to the point and always teach us everything we need to know. They show us some tricks and skills we can learn. Taekwondo also has taught me to show effort and be consistent by making me go to at least 3 classes a week and if I don't show effort then that means I have to do more pushups. I have also learned to show respect because every time we do a drill, we must show respect to our partner. Another skill I have learned from taekwondo is how to be a leader. I have learned this skill from taekwondo by leading in the warmups. This skill is important because if you don't know how to talk with confidence, then you won't be a good speaker. Being a good speaker is important because it could help you in the future with your job or maybe doing a speech. As you can see, taekwondo has taught me many important skills for that will also help me in my life and it has also taught me how to show respect to others. Finally, earning a Black Belt at USTA makes me very proud because of all of the work I have put in and I can't wait to get my Black Belt!

It's not just a belt to me - it is a symbol of all the hard work, and determination I've put in over the years. When I first started, I didn't know much about martial arts. I had a lot of admiration for the higher belts and the black belt students who I saw during belt promotions. But as I continued training, I realized it's about way more than just impressive moves. At USTA, they teach us to be strong not only on the outside, but on the inside too. I had to learn discipline, respect, and how to stay focused even when things get hard. There were times I wanted to give up, especially when I couldn't get a kick right. But my instructors, classmates, and family always encouraged me, and I kept going. The process of qualifying for my black belt has been super intense. I had to demonstrate excellence in everything I learned--forms, sparring, board breaking, and self-defense. I was anxious, but I am also ready. When I finally tie that black belt around my waist, I think it will feel like I can accomplish anything. As part of my practice, I help younger students and try to set a good example for them. USTA has taught me that being a black belt can be the beginning of a bigger journey. I'm excited to keep learning and growing. I know there will be more challenges ahead, but now I believe in myself. That's what earning a black belt at USTA means to me."

Unfair Treatment & Unethical Charges - Urgent Resolution Needed…read more I feel completely taken advantage of by Master Kang's martial arts program. As a single mother of three, I was looking for a safe and reliable aftercare solution for my children. When I enrolled my 6-, 7-, and 8-year-olds, Master Kang promised me a "discounted price" and a "free uniform." However, I quickly realized that the hidden costs--belt tests, miscellaneous fees, and other unexpected expenses--added up significantly. From the start, I made it clear that I would be unable to stay in class with my children due to my work schedule. Master Kang assured me that they would be watched after their lessons. Yet, on multiple occasions, I arrived to find my 6-, 7-, and 8-year-olds outside the dojo, completely unattended and unsupervised. This was not only irresponsible but also dangerous. I trusted this program to provide structure and safety for my children, but instead, I found them running around unsupervised, putting them at risk. Another issue arose with the attendance stickers that are given out to eventually earn achievement medals. Since I wasn't present, Master Kang would hand these stickers directly to my children, who, as small kids naturally do, often lost them before I arrived. When I asked for replacements, he refused, saying they were "too expensive" because they were imported. How is it acceptable to deny a child a simple sticker, knowing they are young and likely to misplace it? This lack of compassion and flexibility was incredibly frustrating. Then, life took a turn. I lost my job and could no longer afford the program. I informed Master Kang and requested to cancel my membership, explaining that I had to move out of state. The school demanded proof of my move, so I provided a lease and a utility bill. However, they rejected my documentation over a minor technicality--listing my name at my new address still tied to my old driver's license. Despite my best efforts, they refused to accept even my utility start-of-service notice as valid proof. How was I supposed to provide a finalized bill for a future address before even moving in? This requirement is not only unreasonable but feels like an intentional barrier to keep charging me. Now, they continue to bill me, even though I have done everything in my power to prove that I have moved and can no longer attend. At this point, I feel deceived, exploited, and robbed in broad daylight. Where is the integrity? Where is the humanity? Master Kang is a businessman and a family man--yet he is treating a struggling mother with zero empathy, prioritizing profits over basic fairness. I am demanding that my membership be canceled immediately. I refuse to pay for a service I cannot use, especially one that has already failed to provide the safe environment I was promised. If this matter is not resolved, I will have no choice but to escalate this through consumer protection agencies, public reviews, and legal channels. I hope Master Kang and his team choose to do the right thing. Lee's TKD has a wider demographic spread than almost every other place I've looked at before. Teenaged girls are usually the ones that quit Taekwondo the fastest. However, I am still impressed by the large number of black-belt women who attend on a regular basis. (I think the last class I attended was split down the middle with women and men). If you are worried some of the classes might be too easy or difficult, Master Lee breaks up the schedule according to age and level, so you will easily find a class where you are comfortable. Another unique aspect I loved about this dojang specifically is that Master Lee keeps "open" classes in addition to classes by belt level. Therefore, you have an opportunity to work with students from different levels and improve much faster than you would if you were working with only a small group of students. I would highly recommend this place to my friends and family. If you are looking to get in shape, to gain more self-confidence, or try a different sport, I know you will really enjoy Lee's US Taekwondo.

Unsafe and undisciplined. He lost his lease somehow when he was in another location and moved it…read moreto this small facility which has a series of concrete pillars right in the middle of the room. The concrete pillars and the children are completely without pads. How can you have that and have children sparring or working out? One of these days some child will fall backwards or into a cement pillar and split their head wide open. Then everyone will wonder why it was not shut down. I would wonder if this place even has a band -aid. My daughter went there very briefly and the instructor was extremely undisciplined. Kids and parents talking louder than the instructor as if it was a social club, children sparring without protective pads or helmets and a sense of a low budget disaster. He has 2 girls and his wife there with him so do not be fooled when you see 6 or 7 people. That means there are really only 3 paying students and the rest are family. When a business engages in reckless conduct like having young children sparring without chest pads or helmets around concrete pillars that tells you what they think of your children. I saw this and immediately told my wife to never go back. Broke the contract and left. By the way he had talked my wife into some "special" when she signed up and then later on wanted her to pay the regular full price with initiation when his money was drying up. So on top of reckless he is dishonest. I am just amazed that he somehow stays in business.
