We were looking for a designer/contractor to provide a refresh on our recently purchased New Smyrna Beach condo. After initially beginning the process with someone else, it became apparent through the design phase that a change was necessary. I was familiar for decades with the respected reputation of S&W Kitchens, but only recently became aware that their range of services extended well beyond kitchens to include bathroom remodels to full house renovations. From our initial consultation with Longwood Project Designer Mayerlin, it was clear that we had selected a winner. Mayerlin listened to our vision of what we imagined for our new beach home. Moving forward through the design phase, Mayerlin and her design assistant, Chesleigh, created a comprehensive plan including pre-construction to complete remodel architectural quality floorplans and elevations. Mayerlin presented choices for all necessary materials and with her guidance we made our final selections. The project included a total refresh of the kitchen including a new kitchen island, new cabinetry and new appliances. The living room included a new extensive accent entertainment wall with adjacent built in lower cabinetry and upper floating shelves. These areas included a new tongue & groove ceiling with beams. The primary bathroom was fully gutted and a new floorplan design for vanities and an enlarged shower was successfully completed. The two other guest bathrooms were updated with new vanities, countertops, sinks, backsplashes and mirrors also. All old incandescent can ceiling lights throughout were updated to LED can ceiling lights. The Project Construction Manager, Tim, handled the flow of work and coordination of subs as a true professional. Tim was always responsive to our questions and concerns. And Mayerlin was always following up in the field as the project went from demolition to completion. The finished result is stunning and exceeded our pre-construction vision. We used SW Kitchens for a large project renovating all living spaces (kitchen, pantry, mudroom, laundry, family room, living room, office) of our home in spring of 2024. Time was of the essence for us as we'd already sold our other home, and had a baby due later in the summer. Our designer Mayerlin, and project manager Adam hit the ground running to get us to "substantial completion" as soon as humanly possible so we could move out of our temporary housing before baby arrived. Not only did they make it in time, they were early! The only time we fell behind was if I needed them to change something or added scope to the job and at every turn they were helpful, professional, and took pride in their work. While we still had pending projects after bringing baby home, they worked with us to keep disruptions to a minimum. A major selling point for us with SW was their reputation for doing what it takes to make clients happy and ensuring all employees and subcontractors who entered my home we background checked quality craftsmen. Our experience with S&W has been a prolonged nightmare. They show little remorse for huge errors, and their workers appear to be overworked to the point of constant errors on the job. From our first meeting to our unfinished punch list, there has been little care or sense of urgency about critical errors. I would however like to mention up front that our Foreman (Pete) was amazing and thoughtful, but unfortunately quit the project as it became out of control. I don't know if he left the company as well, but I wouldn't blame him as he is not given the resources to succeed. Pete was also never replaced, and no issues were dealt with once he left the project. I will outline most of the problems we had starting from the beginning of the project. Once we had our design consultations at the Longwood showroom, we had our meeting to go over costs and timelines. We were quoted 11 weeks to a completion. It took at least double that to even get close to substantial completion, and there are still problems to this day (1/13/21). For reference, this meeting was at the end of March of 2020. Our biggest issue with this build was that they mismeasured our kitchen from the start, and didn't figure that out until well into the build process when they noticed the cabinets would not be able to fit as designed. Their measurement was off by OVER A FOOT. The only person that seemed to care about this was our foreman, and the cabinet installers. The management continues to just say our kitchen looks nice, but refuses to acknowledge that it is a major issue that it was not the kitchen we ordered. This mismeasurement caused our kitchen to no longer be centered on a window, and we had to completely shift cabinets around. To the credit of their craftsmen, they did a very good job with the compromises, but they were just as horrified as we were. There were also other problems with the cabinets that caused them to come out for multiple visits which I will detail below. To that end, there are still problems with the finish of the cabinets that remain to this day even though the company seems to think they are done with this project. Here is a list of other issues that happened during our build: -A wall was framed in the wrong place and I had to correct the worker as I happened to be home that day. That caused some issues with our ceiling cracking later on -They lost kitchen hardware that took about a month to re-order -When installing our appliances, they caused a gas leak that we had to live with over a holiday weekend -They damaged a countertop during that appliance install and did not tell us. The damage was so severe that the counter had to be replaced. -They scratched the floor when they repaired the gas leak, and that scratch remains as the wood floor was installed by a different company. -We had several plumbing mishaps that required numerous revisits by the plumbers -They severed a pipe for our outside water -The cover and protect process they used for our wood floor caused moisture to build up and the floor had to be replaced -They completely installed an incorrect door which took weeks of visits to repair and it remains unfinished (missing a strike plate) -We had service people and inspectors show up unannounced and unexpected -We failed an inspection as they got the county confused even after we warned them several times about our county as we live near the county line -During this process they have been very slow at communication (weeks to respond) -Some of our kitchen hardware already has coating wearing off My last email to the company was on December 8th. I received a reply about a week later that they were elevating our case to ownership, but as of today (1/13/21) it has been almost a month since, with no word from ownership. The issues with this company all seem to come from the fact that they are accepting more work than they can handle. Their workers are good craftsmen, but they were all exhausted, and were often coming to us as their 3rd job of the day. This also caused us a few late nights of construction. We felt so sorry for the workers as they were absolutely beat. The workers had a real drive to fix issues, but the company has been slow to respond to issues, and does not seem motivated in any way to compensate for delivering a kitchen that was not what we ordered. In conclusion S&W charges a premium for their services and I can even see how it could be worth the money if the workers were scheduled well, but in our case, everything fell through the cracks, and there seems to be little accountability. I cannot recommend the company at the price they charge as you will end up still having to essentially coordinate most of the project yourself, and at that point you might as well go with a company that doesn't charge a premium price for a mediocre product. read more

Last year, I contracted with S&W Kitchens in Longwood, FL. to renovate my kitchen. The project started after 'all' the materials were in their warehouse. I sent this email to the owner on 5 Dec. ------- It has now been 1 year since you started my 10 x 13 (130 sq ft) kitchen renovation. 1 year since you defaulted on my 8 to 12 week renovation contract. 1 year since I have had my refrigerator and pantry cabinet in my dining room. 1 year since my microwave and toaster oven have been in my living room. 1 year since I have done all my cooking in a microwave or toaster oven or on a grill. 1 year of eating out more often than usual. 1 year of having to buy bottled water to drink. 1 year of having to do my dishes in the bathroom sink. 1 year since my home has been in shambles/disarray. 1 year since I purchased lamps and fans that if they don't work or I don't like, they are nonrefundable. 1 year of incorrectly measured and incomplete cabinet/materials ordering. Cabinets that had to be reordered. Substandard cabinet installation and re-installation. General construction issues and repairs on NEW products. 1 year since I have had to park my beautiful new car outside since you are using my garage as a staging/storage area. 1 year since I have to continuously reach out to you to get anything done. 1 year of unanswered or partially answered emails. And a sales/design consultant who blocks customer texts. 1 year since you have been trying to figure out how to mount my corner table. During this 1 year, appliances have been delivered, not installed (except hood), but the warranty has started. During this 1 year, 2 vice presidents and 1 owner have been on site to status progress and take actions, yet my kitchen still is not complete! If you want to have a horrible experience then choose this company! We contracted with them in late November/December 2018 to redo our small shower area. I knew what I wanted and explained it to the designer. She came up with plans and we approved them. The work did not commence until the end of January beginning of February. I should have suspected problems when I had to point out the shower controls needed to be on the opposite wall. Well she didn't measure correctly and the custom glass door would not fit! We had someone else from the company take over. Then the door leaked because the tile floor wasn't pitched down enough and had to be redone. When the door was reinstalled they put the sill in upside down and didn't follow our directions for the door install, it still leaks! In September they finally completed the project 8 months after they started this very small stall shower . The kicker was we just today had to spend $500 to put back the insulation they took out and were contracted to put in and didn't! read more

The list of issues is endless. 1st payment in September of 2020 and here we are May of May 2021 signed contract September 2020 and still not complete. Aside from cabinet discoloration, damaged doors, Uninstalled trim, missing glass, drawers out of alignment, wrong type of Lazy Susan, a damaged counter that I fixed, massive vent hole, sink installed backwards and a designer that never calls back. This is just the middle portion of the job. In the beginning wrong walls were taken down, electrician leaves and half the house was out... it just goes on and on. S & W Kitchens sold me what i thought to be a custom kitchen and the contract stated all materials on this contract are custom. After spending over $50,000 and one problem after another because the cabinets were not fitting the area properly, i found out that the cabinets were not custom at all. They were pre-made cabinets with pre-made sizes. Don't be fooled. S & W Kitchens is refusing to make it right. They had their lawyer send an email to the effect that litigation is expensive and i will likely loose. We hired them in Dec 2019 and they will not do anything. Tried to get a quote for a bedroom and bath remodel job. We lost weeks waiting to meet with them, and then they seemed to of lost the project files showing the measurements, etc. But they did provide a quote with a $50Kish range....just too many unknowns and we were unable to gain confidence with them. We wound up going with another recommended contractor who was less than half what S&W was quoting. That was nice, but what gave us more confidence was knowing that we would have one accountable project manager who we would entrust with access to the house. We spoke with or met with him every single day. Change orders were not a problem and in some cases even reduced the cost. All I'm suggesting in this review is to do your homework and not let this company, that spends a tremendous amount of money advertising, push you into a project with no named project manager and not providing a reasonable estimate. read more

I had my kitchen remodeled by them a few years ago and should have written this after that but didn't. I was just glad to get it over with them , many headaches. I needed to contact them November 10th 2015 as the under cabinet lights stopped working. The electrician came by promptly and removed a defective part. Weeks passed and no news. I found the electrician's number on my cell phone and text him. He apologized and said he forgot to turn the part into be ordered and would do that the next business day. More weeks go by, I text him and call the store. I am told it has been ordered. It is now January 20 2016, still waiting...called today the person to help me is gone ntil Monday. read more

Hiring this company was the absolute worst experience in my life! They could not seem to order the correct cabinets. When they did finally put them up, they looked terrible. Everything they did was a hassle. 4 times (6 weeks) to re-route 1 pipe before they did it right. Bottom line, we were without a kitchen for 7 months. Three of those months, no sink. Worst ever people to deal with. We fought to get the kitchen done right. I love the kitchen now, but not worth the hassle. Working on a bathroom now. They are not welcome here. The tile subcontractor showed up today to review what needs to be done. I texted the site supervisor, because the tile guy said that he usually does the initial walk thru of the plans with the supervisor. No signs that this guy will ever show. So I was going thru the plans with the tile guy, and it is written right on the drawings that the designer will be here for the tile walk-thru. I texted him, again, no response. So, it looks like I am the site supervisor for this job. I truly regret that we have a contract with these people. read more

I would give this company an "F". had a floor tiled and never regretted anything more than working with them and their project manager and sub-contractors. Shoddy original job and many problems with running out of tile because they had to correct so many bad pieces. Just one excuse after another this job was started Feb 6 and is still incomplete. I contracted with S & W Kitchens to renovate my kitchen and do a partial renovation of my master bathroom in 2015, 2016 and I was so satisfied with the process and results, I contracted with them to complete the bathroom renovation. This project was a frustrating nightmare! From the time I signed the contract and gave them the initial deposit, until final completion, it took over 6 months. And the flooring and toilet did not have to be replaced. I was told there were changes in administration in the permitting department, the proper paperwork was not submitted to the county in a timely manner, they even forgot to submit the notice of commencement. So that delayed the the start even more until the county received all the necessary paperwork. When we finally got started, I was assigned an "on-site superintendent", who was supposed to facilitate the process. Some of the subcontractors' work was substandard and had to be corrected by the "punch" team from S & W. There was also a problem with not having ordered enough "schluter" for the tile. So there was a setback there until the material arrived. My superintendent was never on-site unless I called him to report a problem. He was responsive and competent as far as knowing how to fix it and arranged for the punch team to be on site in a timely manner. If the superintendent would have come on site after every sub left, maybe some of the delays could have been avoided. The "punch team" was terrific. I would not recommend this company to anyone after this terrible experience. read more

We would have gladly given S&W a 5 if the project manager and the designer that we thought we had an excellent relationship with had contacted us back since coming out to the house on November 26, 2018 to look at the concern we had with our wooden kitchen chairs hanging up in the grout lines on the wood look plank porcelain tile. The floor was very uneven in spots with as much as an eighth of an inch difference between sections of tile. We never heard back from them and have made phone calls to the designer who said he would refer it to the project manager. To date (February 25, 2019) we have never heard back. It's a shame because we absolutely loved the entire job they did with totally gutting our kitchen with the exception of the floor. We seemed to have a great relationship with all their workers who were very professional and always cleaned up. It's a shame the inability to call us back and let us know the status of the replacement of the floor has totally soured our plans to hire S&W to totally replace our master bathroom in the future. read more

We're very disappointed with the way S&W conducted themselves on this job. We're building a home and chose S&W for all the cabinets. They're next door to where we purchased the appliances so we thought they might work closely together. S&W received the appliance specs three months before the cabinets were installed; in plenty of time to review them. The first installer they sent was so obnoxious to everyone on the job the contractor had to ask him to leave. When we contacted S&W, instead of an apology they said they'd never had a problem before and we'd have to wait a week for them to get another installer. One bathroom's doors were drilled with one door for a pull and one for a knob. There was no mention of it to us, we just noticed it. When we called, they said a door was ordered but it wouldn't arrive for two weeks even though it was a simple white door. They delivered an extra cabinet and we never found out if it was charged to us or not, but it got left here in the middle of a bedroom. The refrigerator cabinet was built too narrow and shallow to accommodate the refrigerator. When we contacted them, we were told it was a stock cabinet and that's the way it is! When we let them know that was unacceptable they said they couldn't get the installer back to look at how it might be fixed for two weeks, throwing off the already scheduled plumbing and countertop installations. God bless Alex the installer, who fixed everything with complete professionalism but I don't know what would have happened to us if we hadn't gotten his phone number. He and I had to figure out how to fix the problem with pieces that were left over. S&W's attention to detail was lacking to say the least and customer service was appalling. We can't recommend them and wouldn't hire them again. read more
