I loved that each guest can order a different tasting menu, so we took one "land" and one "sea". We thought the land was the winner, but choosing both allowed for an outstanding number of options. So many highlights, but 2 I'll mention were the ethereal violet-mousse dessert, and the foie dish from the land menu that was one of the best things I've eaten. There were 2 servers and both were exceedingly helpful and attentive, though the young lady with the short hair had such a bad cough that I worried for her health (and ours! Though we didn't catch anything). Chef Flavio also works during the day extensively in the office out front, and it is a rare opportunity to meet him as guests of the hotel attached to the restaurant (which offered comfortable rustic rooms). The setting amidst vineyards is also very special. And I must also make mention of the excellent wine list which is worth a trip on its own! A deep selection of vintage barolos - I got a 2013 barolo that had nicely aged and was served in the finest stemware at the amazing price of 58€ (the next evening I dined at another 1-star restaurant where the same bottle would've been several times as much, if you could even find it). 21.9 was probably my best meal of 2025 thanks to the intimate setting, outstanding wines and exclusivity. Highly recommend dinner and a night's stay to go with it.

Their prices were less expensive than the restaurant where we had dinner at in Alba. The taglioni dish with white truffle was absolutely delicious! Everyone was happy with their food. The complimentary breads and mountain butter were so good! We are used to having butter with our bread so we miss it being in Italy. This butter was creamy and melted right into the bread. We didn't have reservations. They were able to seat us. Waiter was very nice. Everyone working there seems nice.

On this trip, I learned that small fish like anchovies and sardines are commonly served items in the Italian diet. They are extremely flavorful and were a delightful surprise. My favorite item here has to be their cod gnocchi! The gnocchi was artfully made and each bite was a burst of chewy dough. One thing I also learned was that the Barolo region also has white wine! I really enjoyed getting to explore the Arneis white wines produced in this region! Outdoor seating available. No wifi. Wine selection is good but mostly bottles for the food stuff. Limited selection by the glass. Ask for half bottle options as some are not represented on the menu. Had an excellent 2014 barolo Brunate in half bottle size. Stuffed and roasted onions where very good as appetizer. Sweet and tender and a local favorite. Tajarin bolognese and tajarin tartufo for our entree. They were good, but portion was a bit small. Overall not as refined as similar tajarin from nearby establishments. The restaurant is full of regulars from the area but as a first time guest we were made to feel welcome. Chef Massimo visits every table. My Italian is not very good, neither is his English, but we felt appreciated for our visit. There is a 49 page wine list presented on an iPad focusing on the region. Prices are not cheap but fair with Gosset Brut Grand Reserve Champagne at 100 Euros, for example, during our December 2023 visit, and perhaps some better values on wines from Piedmonte. What I love about Italy is that wines in most places are priced closer to retail than in the US where wines are routinely markup up two to four times retail. That's why you see wine on almost every table in Italy while in the US people will drink iced tea or cocktails rather than spend $200 for a $50 bottle of wine. I digress. Pet peeve. The food is available as a Chef's Menu around 120 Euros or A La Carte with plates from 25 - 30 Euros. A four glass wine pairing was available for only 60 Euros pp. The Egg with potato foam, foie gras and liquid fondue was very enjoyable as was the Tortello Pasta stuffed with pumpkin and anchovy cream. We also enjoyed the Risotto with Jerusalem Artichoke and Roccaverano Cheese Fondue. My partner did not love the Lamb Ribs Breaded and fried with Crispy Batter but I could see how some people would like it. Our favorite dish was not even on the menu, a delicious Pannetone with Zabaglione from Moscato. I never loved Panetone because I always ate the ones in the US that were mass produced and probably sitting in boxes for a month. Some of the Pannetones we had in Piedmonte completely changed our appreciation for them, fresh, soft, juicy, delicious.

The Ristorante di Castello is located in the luxury five-star Relais & Châteaux Castle, located in…read morethe small upscale town of Guarene, in Roero, Piedmont, Italy. The Castle's architecture is stunning and their dining room is beautiful and elegant. Chef Lorenzo Muzzo's is a young talented Chef who's dinner menu includes traditional pasta dishes from the Region that were delicious; Agnolotti del pin, Tarajin (homemade thin pasta noodle) with ragu , Spaghetti with basil pomodoro sauce, Veal Milanese, and Vitello Tonnato. We paired our meal with a beautiful bottle of Gaya. Notwithstanding the quality of the food and the beautiful atmosphere, the restaurant has a few issues that they would benefit from addressing including the inappropriate 1970's pop music (which they will change to jazz if asked) that is played loudly and offensively; the stunning abandonment of the guests by the Maitre de who dissapears immediately after you are seated and can be seen by the guest through the glass doors talking in the kitchen completely indifferent to the guests who are waiting for him to take their wine and meal order. After waiting a painfully long time to get his attention, my husband had to get up from the table and search him out to place a wine and dinner order and to then have service at the table during the meal. The Maitre De is oblivious to his surroundings and neglectful of his guests throughout the dining experience. Furthermore, as a staff member in a fine dining hotel with a semi-formal dress code for guests, he was grossly neglectful of his own appearance. He doubles as the Maitre De and main server at the restaurant, but he was unkempt, wore dirty eyeglasses both nights we dined at the restaurant, with one lense completely blocked by dirt that made communication with him difficult and awkward. It was not easy establishing eye contact through blatantly dirty eyeglasses. Despite these troublesome issues, the food is delicious. For some, the price of the food and wine will make these issues with the service staff unacceptable and they will choose not to dine here. I recommend this restaurant with these points in mind so an informed decision can be made. Recommended with caution. Reservations required. The Chateaux is a wonderful place to stay but has similar staff issues, so guests should be prepared to do all the work themselves in securing a chauffer car service, finding restaurants, making their own reservations, preparing their own itinerary, and demanding the concierge (if hair Services are required) to arrange hair services in the Castle's second floor salon. Again, for many, these issues are not acceptable. With these caveats, the Castle hotel is highly recommended.
