The owner took care of my purse because as you know Italians never leave their purse on the dirty floor.

You can not go wrong with Barolando. The last review complained about a waiter not speaking English and no Olive oil being served. Well, we had the owner providing wine recommendations and they serve a home made whipped butter with three types of bread including whole wheat focaccia, homemade bread with raisins and walnuts and breadsticks dusted in corn. We sat outside basking in the sun and we were treated like special guests. The owner ever provided a purse holder because in Italy you never leave your lovely purse on the floor. Cosy located in the heart of Barolo, perfect place to sit and watch people passing by. The service was though very slow and the waiter seamed to be stressed and didn't listen to our whole order before he ran away. He also forgot to bring bread, olive oil and we had to go inside and ask for salt and pepper. They are not that good at English. The risotto with cheese was good, but the seasonal veggie was nothing to recommend (fried potatoes and zucchini, very salty). My partner ordered mozzarella and tomatoes and the risotto with Barolo and thought both dishes were ok. They have 5-7 Barolo wines and the one we ordered was good!

The door was open and we poked our heads in to ask if they had any open reservations. The owner told us to come in and stay, that they were pretty busy with reservations but he had a couple seats open and with the weather we shouldn't go back out. He wasn't wrong, by 7:40 the place was basically full. A couple of individuals wandered in and he did his best to create a communal table to serve them. When we arrived one waiter was still hand writing the menus for the day and the owner was busy readying the wine selection. They brought us a menu, the waiter spoke English and was able to describe the 10 things on the rough menu. When we asked if they had rabbit he jokingly remarked 'no, none were running around the place today'. We opted for a 1/2 bottle of barolo, a portion of tajarin ragú (spaghetti with meat sauce), Milanese and brasato (traditional stewed veal). As per norm plenty of bread was served. The entrees came with sautéed vegetables. The brasato was good, meat was soft and flavorful and sitting at this long, wooden, communal table I could completely envision eating this as a traditional dish. The tajarin was perfect for my taste. It was not sauce heavy so if you prefer a meat sauce like that this is not for you. I loved how the homemade spaghetti and the meat really stood out with a very small amount of sauce to bind the two. The Milanese was great. Pounded thin and pan fried in butter, the flavor was tremendous. Living in Italy could really make me like veal! We did not get dessert but the waiter brought us some local appertif to try. It was very sweet but with bitters, an interesting mix. People watching in this place was great. I got a lot of amusement out of it and it was just the sort of place I was looking for in Italy. A place where people gather, are loud, laugh and enjoy home cooked food without frills.

Between the two meals, we had fried zucchini blossoms, steak tartare, tuma and figs, tajarin with ragu, ravioli, two different pesto pastas, and veal Milanese. We loved just about everything, with the tartare, cheese/figs, tajarin, and veal probably being our favorites. They were also incredibly friendly to our two small children. We'd definitely come back on another trip to Piedmont, and if anything, next trip I'd probably spend more time eating in Alba in general.

As with most places in the Langhe, we found the wine list to be extensive and amazing. The food and the service are top notch. The carne cruda came with fresh porcini mushrooms, the pastas were all fresh made and the stinco? What can I say, this was the first time we've had it and we loved it! We liked the restaurant so much we came back another day for lunch and sat outside which was beautiful. Definitely recommend eating here

My wife had a very generous portion of pork belly that was tender and delicious with sweet-and-sour sauce. Our second course was an amazing braised veal that was so tender that it fell apart and was wonderfully delicious and a mushroom lasagna that was completely made from scratch and was probably the best lasagna I have ever tasted even though I just had a bite. We had a Massolino 2011 Margheria barolo that just knocked our socks off and also helped with our high approval of this place. While it is not necessary to speak Italian to enjoy the osteria, it is helpful if you can at least say and understand a few words. The waiter first brought us a menu entirely in Italian which was replaced with an English menu after we spent about 30 minutes puzzling out the Italian.

My husband…read moreand I were staying in Turin and made the scenic drive out to enjoy their tour and wine tasting experience--and we're so glad we did. The tour was both informative and enjoyable, offering a great insight into the region's unique grape-growing methods and winemaking traditions. We took the English-language tour, which was well-presented and easy to follow. After the tour, we enjoyed a wine tasting that was not only educational but also absolutely delicious. Every pour was a treat, and we ended up shipping several bottles home to enjoy later. If you're a wine lover, this spot is a must-visit. The setting, the knowledge shared, and of course, the wine, all make for a memorable experience.

They have a nice gift shop inside and we were buying things even before our tour. Lol. The tour started at the front entrance. We were given a brief history on the family. Then we go down to their cellar where the big wine barrels are. They are massive and beautiful. The tour continued down there and their winemaking process and their rich history was shared. Tour ended back upstairs in their tasting room. We tried 4 of their wines. Our group had a great time, loved their Riserva, and shipped some wines back home.

Imaginative and Delicious Gourmet Vegan Food at a Reasonable Price…read more My spouse and I now have a favorite new vegan restaurant and we wish, with all our hearts, that we could transport it to where we live. We found this gem in Turin (Torino) Italy. The name makes it sound like a place where you would get sprouts only and the like-- "Soul Kitchen." However, what we encountered was an amazing gourmet vegan restaurant. The food was so imaginative and beautiful, we were amazed. We ate three times there in two days--lunch and two dinners. Among the many dishes that are reinvented Italian fare, they do fantastic dishes with seitan and you feel as if you have entered seitan heaven. We recommend The Napoleon, for the creativity of its preparation with the slight flavor of blood oranges is beyond compare. They also have the most terrific complete onion filled with pasta (which tastes a little like risotto). The restaurant itself has a comfortable atmosphere and you can go casual or dressed up. We did not expect something so unique and satisfying. We "travel for vegan food" and have eaten in many many vegan places in Europe, Canada, Turkey, Brazil and The United States, and this is definitely in the top three if not, the top one. In addition, our server Ricardo was so welcoming, friendly, and helpful that he made the whole experience even more delightful. You must try this place if you love food or if you are vegan or if you want a joyful eating experience. It is not to be missed.
