Veal milanese
Shawn H.

This was our first meal in Piedmont and one of our very favorites, so we actually ended up going back for lunch on our last day. Between the two meals, we had fried zucchini blossoms, steak tartare, tuma and figs, tajarin with ragu, ravioli, two different pesto pastas, and veal Milanese. We loved just about everything, with the tartare, cheese/figs, tajarin, and veal probably being our favorites. They were also incredibly friendly to our two small children. We'd definitely come back on another trip to Piedmont, and if anything, next trip I'd probably spend more time eating in Alba in general.

This plus wine - not bad for €45

We didn't realize that it would be super difficult to get a casual lunch on a Thursday. After being turned away from multiple places, we stumbled upon Osteria dei signatori, which was a little more spacious than a lot of the other places, and they had larger communal tables. We started with the house Barbera, which was only €3 for a 1/2 liter. They had a more extensive wine list for about €16-30 a bottle, which was crazy cheap compared to the US. The server spoke some English and started us with 4 antipasti. We were starving, so we went for all 4. Antipasti: €5-7 each 1. Veal tonnato: thinly sliced veal with tuna sauce, which is very popular around here. On its own, the veal is quite dry. The tuna sauce is mayo based. I don't see the appeal, but everyone seemed to order this at most casual places we went to 2. Veal tartare: super fresh, simple, good with bread or crackers 3. Sardines: salty as expected, but there was a super intense and sweet tomato sauce that I wish I could jar up to go 4. Salami: unexpected - a salami meatball that was super tender, served with cooked cabbage Pastas: €7-9 each 1. Tajerin with ragu: great flavor on the meat sauce, be sure to get some Parmesan to sprinkle on your pasta 2. Fettuccini: with pumpkin, squash, etc- seasonal and healthier / lighter, but not as good as the tajerin It's nice that we never felt rushed. It was a super relaxed course by course casual lunch. The menu changes daily, and there's a paper near the entrance with general price ranges, but the server will tell you what's available that day. In the end, it was €45 for the two of us. Portions were quite filling. Bathrooms were clean. Credit cards accepted.

This is a lovely, busy place. The wait staff is friendly and speak a little English so you can be understood. We got there at 730pm and had no wait. It had a waiting list when we left. Everything we ordered was delicious.

Steak tartare

One of our first stops in Alba and it was a hit. We put our name in and popped across the street to their bar. Two glasses of Nebbiolo for $4 euros, quickly followed up by two free plates of very tasty stewed beef and polenta. 15 minutes later at the table, shared with a fantastic Canadian couple. The food was a hit; steak tartare--knock out, chicken salad--fresh and if I could get the recipe I would lose an arm, ravioli, more polenta, etc. house wine was solid. Our incredible server plopped down another bottle of wine and told us to try a glass with our new friends. I wish I got her name, she was spunky, entertaining and tons of fun. We did get that she was a yoga teacher, a server and sat as a model for young artists. We thought the room was perfect, loud, upbeat and lively. Hope to get back soon!! Ciao!

Wow. Just wow. Best spaghetti ever. It was prepared right at our table in a huge cheese wheel with…read morebasil, cherry tomatoes and was so rich and delicious! Had their house red (medium finish), Dieci Monferrato Rosso, for about 10euro - you cannot beat this. Guests drank the whole bottle and literally ran a marathon the next day. This was delicious with our pasta and would go perfectly with any meats. Amazing and perfect meal in Milan! The service was impeccable and staff was super kind.

She found Nerino Dieci but they were about to close for lunch so we rushed over. We got there with time to spare. The bartender greeted us right away and asked if we had reservations. We didn't so we stood in line to be seated with everyone who didn't have reservations. The place was full! When you enter, you immediately see their bar area. To your left, as you face the dining area, you see the grilling area. It's very clean and organized! It didn't take too long to be seated and we were happy they could take us so close to closing. We were provided English menus. Since we had time to check out their offerings online while we waited for a table, we had screenshots of what we wanted. It was a little hard to find the corresponding menu item with the screenshots at first. Our server came over and took our order when we looked confident with what we wanted to order. Just to be safe, we also shared photos to minimize errors. We ordered a Tagliolini with Clams and Spicy Salami, Tonnarelli with Cheeses, Pepper and Bacon, Milanese Veal Cutlet with Rocket and Cherry Tomatoes, Natural Microfiltered Draft Water and a Glass of House Red Wine. Our server asked how we wanted the food to come out and we said all together. It didn't take the bar long to get our drinks to us. After some conversation, our food arrived and it looked amazing! The Tagliolini with Clams and Spicy Salami along with the Milanese Veal Cutlet with Rocket and Cherry Tomatoes arrived first. Minutes later, the Tonnarelli with Cheeses, Pepper and Bacon arrived. The clams in Mink's dish were very tasty and the pasta had a slight kick to it through its sauce. We both really enjoyed the cutlet and completely finished it. It was huge so that surprised us that we finished the plate. The Cacio e Pepe was very cheesy and rich. It was really good but heavy. The food is delicious here and we can see why they have earned so many good reviews. Good customer service from the entire staff and they work nonstop due to how busy they are with the lunch rush. Another awesome find by Mink.

My best friend has Lebanese roots and Medditeranean cuisine is my absolute favorite. So I'm picky in this regard! I ordered the vegan platter which came with a lot of varies small plates with various textures. All the classics - salad with tahini dressing, hummus, babaganoush, grape leaf roll (just one lol) as well as some other dishes like green beans and eggplant in stewed tomato, and some fritters that were not exactly falafel. I think they were made with corn meal... that's not falafel lol. They still tasted delicious! There was also a little fried spinach snack and roasted potatoes. When I shared the pics with my friend, she immediately said why do they have potatoes that's not classic Lebanese, haha! Ethnic cuisine in Milan is okay. A lot of times the spice profile is toned down a lot ( I assume because that's what North Italians are used to) but Beirut's offerings are still quite delicious! If you're feeling super hungry after a long work day and craving various textures and flavors, do what I did and get yourself the vegan platter delivered to home!

Cold mezé tajin was the best ever tried, chickpeas, lemon juice, onions, garlic & cilantro: this was my absolutely favorite dish. Warm mezé falafel, never had them so crunchy outside and moist inside. Warm pita bread made upon demand in a wooden oven. I tried the sambusik but will not order again, the filling of meat and onions was excellent but pasty outside was too thick. Lots of vegetarian dishes, all very tasty. The Dolce Neve dessert is similar to panna cotta from Piedmont but the rose water and pistachios gave it a different twist. I still prefer panna cotta. A very filling and satisfying meal priced at 20 bucks each. Great value for money. Strongly advised.
