We booked a flight from Boca Raton, Florida to Traverse City, Michigan for four members of our…read morefamily to visit our son during family weekend at his high school. We chose to fly privately due to the time constraints at both ends. We had a short window to depart after our two youngest finished school in order to arrive for the special concert in which our son was performing. We had numerous emails and promises/guarantees of quality service. We were scheduled to leave at 3:15PM sharp! At approximately 1:30 the plane due to take us had a mechanical problem. A second, smaller and clearly inferior plane was offered (no discount offered until requested and then a very minor amount far less than should have been quoted). We had no choice, so reluctantly agreed. At 3:00 PM that plane suddenly had a mechanical problem and we were told "Too bad, either go the next day (entirely missing our son's performance), or pay an extra $5,000 for a larger plane that would get us there in time. WE HAD NO CHOICE , SO UNDER PROTEST, AGREED. After signing a revised contract the plane suddenly could not be relocated for several hours. Consequently we paid $5,000 above our original contract to arrive too late to hear our son's concert. A few days later, we requested the $5,000 premium be returned. Still waiting. If you fly privately, use an operator that has access to a fleet of planes or if they are strictly a charter operator like quantum Jets, don't utilize the famous "bait and switch" technique.

There is no downside to the Vanpool! The service is tailored to UCLA faculty and employees, so the…read morehours are necessarily work day hours. For example, I took the van all summer from Arcadia (about 35 miles east of Westwood), and we left at 6:40 every morning and arrived on campus at 7:30. We left campus at 5pm and got home at 6pm. The bus drivers are nice, as are the other riders (everyone chats a little), and everyone's really responsible about letting others know their ride schedules and what days they plan to show up. If you ever need to ride to UCLA on a regular basis, this is absolutely the way to go. The "part time" tickets (basically one way pay-per-ride tickets) are a little expensive relative to the monthly fees, but still less expensive than the cost of gas. Plus, both rides are much faster than driving myself. This service is for responsible people. We have never been more than five minutes off schedule, so there is definitely no waiting around for people to come. Make sure you're on time! The only trouble right now is that there seems to be too few vans. I guess it's impossible for UCLA Transportation to have half-filled vans full of part time riders, but know that as a part time rider you're not always going to have a seat. It's best to check with the driver(s) the night before. And it gets really cold on the vans, which I love but understand that some people hate. All in all, love this service. It's perfect.
