First time coming here tonight and it's now one of my favorites in New England. In business since 1792! Must be doing something right. That old time tavern feel still holds strong. I had the Lobster Pot Pie - recommended by our bartender - now one of those meals I will reference as a top standard for years to come. My soul is now warmer and my faith in humanity grown stronger. I ate here three years ago for historical reasons. The food was okay (3.5 stars) and the ambience is, well, historical! We went back last night and the food BLEW US AWAY. I'm a self-appointed food critic (mybuzzardsbay.com) and I often judge a restaurant by their bread service and their chicken dish - both were great. The star was the Duck - perfectly cooked and the Beet Risotto (blue cheese, mint, pesto) was sublime. My wife is a huge Caesar Salad fan and she said "This is the best Caesar I've ever had!" Why? The crunchies on top, the dressing, and the white anchovies on the side, My Chicken was perfectly seared and moist and the veggies (roasted potatoes, carrots, and baby onions made a perfect autumn celebration feast. Sat inside...place was maybe 1/4 full but me right next to the service entrance and station...grand central station. The service provided by Devin was excellent and the dinner was great. We were disappointed in the tiramasu we ordered for dessert. It was awful. Rye Tavern provided one of the best meal experiences I have had in the Cape/Plymouth area. A friend recommended this for a double date night spot and she couldn't have suggested anything better than this. From atmosphere, to service, to food -- every part of our visit was superb. Highly recommend making reservations as early as you can and if you are able to -- reserve a gazebo. We did this and loved it. We started with Caesar Salad and their clam chowder, both fantastic. You cannot come here and skip the chowder. It's truly the best I've ever had. It is a whopping $18 or so, but it is piled with deliciously fried crispy clams and it is totally worth the price tag. I almost requested it without the mashed potatoes, but they work perfectly. I got the prime rib as my entree which is a Wednesday special. It was wonderfully smoked and prepared. Their horseradish cream sauce is decadent. Legit nothing to complain about. read more

Really wanted to love this place, growing up in the area for over 4 decades, was excited to spend the money on a great meal, a treat...staff,in its entirety, rude and unprofessional. Gossiping and chatting about other staff members, while offering dirty looks. Very cold dispositions, uncomfortable vibe amongst all the toxic banter in front of guests. Asked for reccomendation for entrée got ..."well im not a fan but people get it alot" I tried it anyway, again laden in salt couldn't even taste the fish essence. Again dismissive staff, unwelcoming to say the least. Being in the industry myself,what a sad and embarrassing disgrace. Unfortunately, I wont be back and will have to share my experience with those that inquire. After 4 out of 5 of us were served, we waited over 15 minutes for our 5th. By then, all of our entrees were cold. I sent mine back and told them not to bother. The owner/manager said they were having printer problems. I flagged down 3 different servers trying to get our order complete. Finally, after 15 minutes, our waitress showed up and said it would be a few more minutes. The order was for scallops which only require 2-3 minutes to cook. We enjoyed our meal as the food here is high quality and the chefs are creative with a farm to table presence. My jalapeño tequila Bloody Mary was delicious with the added bacon too. Service was good as we sat outside. Our waitress was there when needed but didn't dote. We did have to ask for a water refill once, but she was training someone who was sweet. Great spot for outdoor cocktails and apps. If you are looking for a quiet dinner with quality prepared entrees, this is not the spot you are seeking. ATMOSPHERE: Outside is fun on a nice day when Old Sandwich Road is not too dry & windy (the passing traffic can kick up a lot of dust) and it's not too humid out. Inside is crazy loud even when all the tables are not full. It does seem to be a place locals have special celebrations so the larger groups tend to get louder as their meal progresses. BAR: The bar is outside. The cocktails are well made. If you sit inside and order a drink, it may take a while as the bartender is also outside. It was about 20 minutes before our drinks arrived. My Bloody Mary was excellent and spicy. FOOD: We have had the apps here before and they were good. Twice I have tried burgers and they are not good. This trip, 3 of us ordered a medium/rare, medium and medium/well. They all came out cooked exactly the same which looked like medium. The toppings were either missing ingredients or incorrect. The meat quality was just ok. The eggs Benedict lacked flavor and was disappointing. The Strawberry & Burrata was the one entree that was good. SERVICE: Everyone is pleasant, however, the service is quite slow. It was 40 minutes before we had our burgers. I have eaten at other places and can tell when short staffing causes delays and I don't remove stars when that is the case (although will note in my review as a heads up). I saw plenty of people in the kitchen and what seemed like plenty of servers. We were seated near the back and that door is where the servers come and go, attending to patrons both inside as well as those sitting outside. The door is constantly opening and closing. When we were there it was quite humid, so each time the door opened, humid air whooshed in. It made for an uncomfortable temperature while eating. read more

Well we are there a couple of weeks ago and had a decent meal. This time not so with new menu. The mussels a few week ago were delicious this time boring not much flavor at all almost dead. Go back to the regular burger as smash burgers are so last year and don't taste like anything...yuck. The pasta fagioli was good and the cod was good. What was totally outrageous was the bread for $12 which was four slices of cold French bread a bit of butter with a bit of honey speed around 1/2 of the plate just pathetic. We won't be back anytime soon for sure. Winter menu far superior and that wasn't all that great. Plus yelling at those on our table because of the noise level is unbearable. Excellent time. Had not been in years. Arrived a few minutes early and sat at the outside bar on a 50F night and we were all so comfortable with the heat lamps and fire pit. Blankets provided if you want. Really Knowledgeable bar tenders. We started with steak tartar which was soft and tangy with well toasted crunchy bread. Best clam chowder ever said one. A meal worth traveling for. Duck was perfectly cooked with roasted fall veggies. Short ribs went well with clearly homemade papardelle pasta. Portions are big and even a table of big eaters had leftovers. Place was well lit and very friendly. And the ride in along old sandwich road was, well, and experience: IYKYK. Will return. read more

We've come to Rye Tavern many times for dinner but we decided to try the outdoor experience for the farmers market lunch on Mondays (only open certain times of year) and it was just a phenomenal meal. Aside from the live entertainment and tailored local farm to menu table, the experience is a true pleasure - being able to shop a local farmers' market before and after you eat a delicious lunch. Went for their Sunday brunch to celebrate our 21yr anniversary. Seeing the weather was beautiful we sat the outside bar which has a beautiful plantings and an amazing vegetable and herb garden. We were immediately greeted and handed menus by 2 friendly bartenders. We started with a burrata tomatoes and OVO with a balsamic dessing (advice: get it on the side). Next onto the main dishes. I had the egg soufflé with 2 slices of cappicola, warm olives and potatoes halves. My better half had the pulled pork egg Benedict on corn bread. Once you may your way down the dirt road to find this place, you will be happy you did. Very cute place, the bar can seat about 6 and looks like they have a full menu. The Brussel sprouts were so, so amazing. My husband loved his clam chowder and was excited by the mashed potatoes in there. The salmon was cooked perfectly. Very disappointing. I have heard such good thing about this place and was dying to try it. I looked online at the menu (which said current menu for 7/23/24). They listed grape nut crème brûlée as a dessert and I was sold. We had a party of 5 and a reservation. Unfortunately when the menu came it was different than the menu online and there was no grape nut crème brûlée. Ok we can work around this. We ordered drinks and apps. The apps were the bread ( which said local baguette), butter, honey and radishes for $9. We also got the warm olives and charcuterie. The olives and charcuterie were delicious. The bread was 4 slices of French bread with butter slabbed on a plate with the honey on top. The bread was the same bread you can buy at Market Basket. We asked for more bread and were charged for the entire app again $11 each. Two of us got chowder for an entree because of all the hype about their chowder. It was good but not great, 6/10. My friend ordered a hamburger, no cheese. When it came out there was cheese. He sent it back to get remade and never received another burger. When the server came to clear our plates we told her he never got his dinner. She sent the manager over. The manager was aggressive and rude. She had another burger made and packed to go. Dessert was disappointing. Cheesecake, not freshly made but was from Sysco. Lesson learned. read more
