Extremely Frustrating Experience with State Farm I don't usually leave reviews, but I feel compelled to share my ongoing experience with State Farm regarding my wife's life insurance policy. We requested the cancellation of her policy back in April 2025, specifically because State Farm representative enrolled us in a 30-year policy, even though I had explicitly requested a 20-year term. This was a serious mistake that directly impacted our financial planning. We paid extra because of a mistake on her end. Despite them confirming the cancellation and stating that a refund or credit would be issued, we were still charged. When I followed up, they explained that the payment had already been processed and they would work on getting a refund. That was over two months ago--and we're still waiting. Since then, I've sent multiple follow-ups and only received vague responses and continued delays. We made it very clear that we wanted the policy completely canceled and the money refunded. To add to the frustration, we recently received a confusing letter from State Farm with no explanation of what it means or what we're supposed to do with it. I asked them to explain what it means but no feedback. We still haven't received our refund. Do not do business with them. If this is how they handle a simple cancellation--and can't even set up the correct policy in the first place--I can only imagine how bad things would be when you really need help. Customer service has been completely unreliable and unprofessional. Save yourself the stress and go elsewhere. I have already filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) due to the mishandling of this issue. read more

We have switched from this agent to Shaffin Wegener and everyday I am reminded of the excellent decision we made. We were with Ryan for 1.5 years and never did we speak with him. We had repeated billing issues, then found out the beneficiary on our life. Insurance policies was incorrect, and was not slotted to go to our children. After bringing it to their attention, they told me that they had fixed it only to find out after we switched to our new agent that it never was rectified. Last week we got quotes on life insurance, and dalon wanted me to ask about car insurance as well . (Much lower rates, same coverage, at State Farm she got it down to 377, with our life insurance it's still cheaper than Geico.. Seriously, Kim was AMAZE BALLS - she answered ALL of my questions, I wanted to make sure we are keeping same policy as what we had, what is and isnt included. Go elsewhere. Ryan took over from George Johnson and the difference between the two is significant. I've been a State Farm customer for over 40 years and he's the worst agent I've had. He ( and is office) is unresponsive -- doesn't return calls, emails, takes weeks, if not months for simple transactions. He unilaterally has added coverage and increased premiums where I've had to call to understand why, cancel, get refunds. Your insurance is only as good as your agent who is your advocate. When I joined State Farm 30 years ago George John and his Assistant Trudy were my husband and my agent. We were soooo happy! We didn't realize how spoiled we were until they both retired and Ryan took over. I'm not sure why it took me a few years of a not so good and constant changing staff for me to get away. Every call I made they either didn't know or each gave me a different answer. They always had to call corporate and get back with me but wouldn't give me the number. My final straw was my divorce. They instantly raised my insurance but when I had an accident they kept calling my ex husband !!! Luckily we were always friends . When I called and they mentioned when married they call the spouses not you when YOU'RE in an accident, I googled and left immediately. And I'm sooo happy. We just moved to Austin from Chicago. Ryan and team made the transition easy. He also optimized all of our policies and helped us clean up and consolidate some of our retirement investments for better returns and visibility. Service has also been top notch. My parents also moved here from Chicago and have their policies with Ryan's office. Recently they had hail damage to their roof with all the storms and Ryan's team took care of them right away and they are getting a new roof. Not a man who sticks to his word, Or mans up and admits his mistakes either. Ryan specifically told my father and I that he would "take care of it" (my claim) since my father lives out of state and the event that brought me to Ryan was so horrible and emotionally painful I couldn't handle dealing with it myself. The day I spoke with him about the accident he assured my father and I that he would take care of everything, even field calls from other insurance agents so I wouldn't have to repeatedly tell my story. We handed him the title to my motorcycle and trusted him to proceed with the claim for us, keeping my father updated on the happenings. Our latest update is that he LOST the title to my motorcycle and is now telling me that I need to get another (sit at DMV and pay more money), which is annoying but whatever. The point is that he is not admitting fault at all and is telling me that he is "90% sure that I gave it back to you". Not only is he irresponsible with client information and property he also puts the blame on the client. A customer who trusted him with her insurance issues after a traumatic event. There wasn't even a "sorry my bad". Just a smug face across from me today when I spoke with him! Not only am I having to think about the events that put me in this situation in the first place, but I pride myself in being a lady of my word.
