I'm extremely disappointed with Ryan Brothers Ambulance and their complete lack of compassion for the financial burden they place on families. My child needed an ambulance ride, and while I initially questioned whether it was necessary, hospital staff made me feel like I had no choice. The ride lasted five minutes, yet I was billed $2,200--and because they're out of network, my insurance only covered $500, leaving me with a $1,700 bill. When I called to ask about financial assistance or a reasonable payment plan, I was told I have 12 months to pay or they'll send me to collections--no flexibility, no assistance programs, nothing. For a service that exists to help people in emergencies, they seem far more focused on billing than on actually serving the community. Medical emergencies are already stressful enough. It's unacceptable that Ryan Brothers Ambulance operates with such little regard for the financial strain they place on families. If you ever need an ambulance, I strongly recommend asking about your options before getting stuck with an outrageous bill and zero support. read more

Stoughton ER determined that I was having a heart attack and ordered the transport to the cardiac unit at UW Hospital. Ryan Ambulance coded the claim as nonemergent and so the insurance company would not pay an out of network service for a non emergent transport. They want me to pay the remainder over $4,000. How was this not an emergency? If they had submitted the claim correctly they may have gotten a lot more money from insurance. Now they want to take money from me for their bogus claim. They are highly uncompassionate crooks. read more

If I could give no stars I would. This was one of the worst medical experiences I have ever been a part of. 2 men showed up 45+ minutes after request and my pregnancy was rapidly moving along. The men then struggled to reconnect my IV and it took ~30 minutes to get me from the OB floor into the ambulance. They did not let my husband ride with me. While in the ambulance, my contractions were quickly progressing and I continuously asked why the lights/sirens were not on. We were driving at a normal speed (my family actually beat us to the hospital.........) and I was told this was because my anxiety would increase if they turned lights/sirens on/sped......... I was squeezing my legs together in order to NOT deliver my baby in the ambulance. In 40 minutes I went form 4 cm to 10 cm and began pushing in the hallway when I was being wheeled in to the hospital! I will never again use Ryan Brothers and I actually go out of my way to tell folks this story just in case they can request a different ambulance service provider. I would not wish my delivery experience with them on anyone. read more

Horrible company and StMary's hospital as well. Doctor said I couldn't transport my child to UW for burn treatment after sitting in their emergency room for 3 hours when they finally disclosed they don't have burn treatment facility. Then forced us to use ambulance which billed as nonemergency so now I owe 2000$. Well if it was nonemergency why did I need an ambulance for a 5 minute drive. My child was well enough to survive their 3 hour wait to even see a doctor who did nothing. read more

Husband was transported from Watertown Regional ER to Aurora Summit. (20 miles) Wttn ER Dr said "this is an emergency, you (meaning me) cannot transport, he has to go by ambulance". 1) Ryan Brother's was called by ER and they transport 20 miles. 2) Ryan Bros sends a bill "non-emergent" to insurance. 3) Insurance refuses payment. 4) I Receive $3,700+ bill from Ryan Bros. 5) I contact RB and they say "we are not going to do anything on our end, you must call hospital and have them resubmit". 6) Hospital sends new bill 7) Insurance pays $860+ for "emergent" bill. 8) I receive a bill for $2700 as a "balance bill". Per hospital, in Wisconsin there are two entities that can "balance bill", ambulance companies being one of them. Balance Bill: Whatever the insurance doesn't cover, the patient does. 9) Contact RB Ambo and they again say "we are not going to do anything on our end, but we will contact accounts here to see what you need to do. So sorry, we aren't going to do anything." 10) Picking up hospital records today to continue the fight. 11) If this goes to collection and it ruins perfect credit, I will gladly pay the $2700 to our attorney. read more

I was transported from Fort Atkinson to Madison for further review. I had no monitoring at all, just a transport. I received a bill of almost $3000.00 and they expect me to pay in full. I contacted the billing department and they refused to negotiate or accept payments, instead they turned it over to Stark collection agents. They are crooks and over priced. I would have been better off to walk to the hospital instead. read more

Was transported from Fort Atkinson to Madison. Had surgery in Madison went home 9 days later. Two days after being home got a bill for 1800 dollars demanding full payment. My wife was out of work 8 weeks to care for me and I was out of work for 14 weeks. Four days after returning to work. Ryan Brothers turned over to collection. Contacted them and was told that insurance didn't pay Very unsympathetic about my situation and still demanded full payment immediately. I told the woman I had just went back to work and was not even given a opportunity to make any kind of payment arrangements. Emt's were nice and professional.
