I've heard nothing but great things about this place. It was not only recommended by my coworkers, but my sister went here before when she use to live in RVA. The office is very clean and well organized. I called before I was to give birth and the staff was wonderful in answering any questions and concerns that I had before setting the initial appointment for our son. I have Dr. Rowe for my newborn and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the doctor, staff, office, and experience. They have three locations and I would recommend looking up the website to see if they are near you and the doctor that you would want. Please keep in mind that if you do not have an appointment, there may be a chance that you will not get your doctor. It may be a different doctor that is working that shift and they will take care of you (I've experienced this when I was with my sister and her son when he got sick with the flu). What made me decide this place for my newborn, aside from the positive references and experience, is that they also provide weekend hours at one of their locations in case of emergencies. This will be the last time I call for an appointment because talking with the front desk always leaves me feeling stupid. Not to mention the fact they hung up on me while I was asking about important medication. I work with people all day, I totally get how it wears one down and am not looking for a bubbly front desk personality. Just no hostility. read more

RUDE, UNCARING, DOC-IN-A-BOX. They use words like, "usually", "what I'm seeing these days". Who wants to trust their child's health with people who are treating the community ills and not your specific child. read more

I rate overall 3 stars for this pediatrics clinic. The doctors are awesome, and definitely worth 5 stars, but the front desk staff are horrible as down as 1 star. Most of the front desk are unfriendly and hesitate to give smiles, when only few are nice. The front desk lack of profession & knowledge, so they do great on the regular check-ups and basic request such as scheduling an appt or printing vaccine record. But if you are walk-in, have special case/claim to follow, they will give you a "don't ask me" face, or "I am totally lost what you are saying" face, or "why you still have so many questions that I don't know the answers" face. Also the front desk are inefficient when you need to follow up any doctor's notes, medical claims or billing issues with them. So if your kids are healthy and only need regular check-ups, this place will be best choice on West End area. But if your kids are sick suddenly, have medical conditions, use every minute with the doctor wisely after you are accepted and better to make the decision during the same visit instead of following the advice "go home and we will see if it will get better," because if it don't get better, the staff lack of profession and efficiency will give you a super hard time to follow up or may even delay your kids' caring. read more

I googled RVA peds to give them a call and noticed a poor review on Yelp so I knew I had to chime in... this place is great and I can't imagine how anyone could give it low ratings! We have been going to Dr DeSilva for the past 5 years and absolutely love her! She is so kind and knowledgeable and reassuring to parents. I wouldn't go anywhere else with my children! The only thing I would caution is to make sure you book your appointments early, last minute well-child visits can get really hard to book! If you have your shit together though it's no problem. For sick visits though, you can go any day and see the Dr who is covering the sick appointments. They post a schedule on their website that shows which Dr is at which location every day. We just recently had a newborn and we brought him back in after our first appointment because he hadn't pooped. He eventually did and was totally fine but the pediatrician on call that weekend called us each day to check in and make sure everything was still going well. That was so nice of them and so much appreciated. read more

RVA Pediatrics was recommended to me when my family relocated to Richmond in 2011. At the time, my oldest son was only 6 months old, and I was looking for a caring and attentive pediatrician who would be mindful of the care he would need (long story short, he was born 2 months early due to a car accident). I found everything I needed at RVA Pediatrics and in Dr. Terry. Dr. Terry is great at knowing exactly what to say to a new mom. He has great bedside manner, never makes you feel rushed at appointments or walk-ins, and will make sure every question is answered. If I forget something or have a silly question, he calls me right back and can quickly talk me off a cliff if I am overreacting. He, of course, is also not the PCP for my youngest son as well. Unfortunately, we don't always get to see Dr. Terry for sick visits, but that is just the nature of their business set up. Their doctors and NPs rotate between the three offices. Sick visits are walk-in only (no appointment needed) and you can request specific doctors for a period of time, but after that period of time, its first available. Luckily for the most part, I have had great luck with other doctors and NPs we have seen besides Dr. Terry. I really don't think you can go wrong with making this your pediatric choice! read more

Went here to retrieve my immunization records for school. Paid $25 and waited to get a phone call when my file was recovered. I was never notified when my records were retrieved. I ended up receiving a package in the mail 4 days later with my records, but I needed a form signed. Went back in to drop off a form, and I was told only 1 doctor was allowed to sign it, and he was not currently in the office. I told the front desk she was wrong and any doctor in the practice could verify that I did indeed have my vaccinations (she was wrong). She said she would double check to see if I was right, so she took down my phone number and sent me on my way. I went back a THIRD TIME to this office to receive my signed form and was asked to pay an additional $5. Called their office managers to explain the situation and how an additional $5 for a signature after making 3 trips and already paying $25 was ridiculous. I was transferred two times an I was told I would get a phone call back, but never received one. Very frustrating experience. read more

I would say the doctors themselves are great. We see Dr. DeSilva, who we love, but have also seen other doctors through walk-ins. They all have a great demeanor with the children. I took two stars off because: 1. I just hate interacting with the front desk staff at Ridgefield. No one greets you, they don't smile and hardly make eye contact when they ask you to sign or pay your co-pay. They make you feel as if you're interrupting their screen time. I feel like I'm inconveniencing them. Yes this is a doctor's office but you're still a client, a patient and a customer of their services. Make people feel welcome. 2. Every time I have what I think is a quick appt. for my son, meaning 5 minutes of face time with the doctor, it turns into at least 90 minutes of being there. I had a 3 year check up for my son. Had the appt for the past couple of months. No shots or vacs are done at this appt. I was in the waiting room for 45 minutes when I was about to go up and ask if they forgot about us. About 6 kids who came after my son, had already gone to the back. I finally get called back at 50 minutes, and I'm waiting another 30 minutes for Dr. DeSilva to see us and yes, we talked to her for 5 minutes. She's got the greatest demeanor, and was so apologetic, but it sucks for us that they're probably overbooking her costing us a lot of wait time/time off of work. Will probably switch to another practice because of this. read more

Love Dr. Bowers! She goes above and beyond for her patients and she explains everything well. There is never a long wait, the staff is welcoming and friendly, and you always leave with a smile on your face. She is easy to communicate with and truly cares about all of her patients. She is the best pediatrician ever, hence why I have been with her for over 5 years. read more

You can't make sick child appointments, it's a first come first serve situation. But they are so grossly understaffed that we waited over two hours to see a doctor for a simple ear infection. Additionally, we were placed in a room to wait for the doctor that clearly hadn't been cleaned. A used glove, cotton swab and tongue depressor was left on the floor. read more

I would absolutely not trust this office with any serious medical condition. Not only have we waited (multiple times) 2 hours for a sick visit, not only have my children been misdiagnosed multiple times, not only have we had trouble with them getting us specialist appointments, but when my daughter had a potentially very dangerous medical condition there was no help. There are multiple doctors that told me to "just wait, don't go to ER, it's fine" and receptionists who wouldn't even let me talk to a doctor and brushed off my concerns. Thank goodness I didn't listen to this practice and took her to the ER where she was then admitted. The neurologists at VCU told me listening to this pediatrician's office could have cost my daughter permanent brain damage. On top of all this, when I called and talked to Dr Terry and the office manager when we found out she was being admitted (amazing how everyone was then available to talk), they never once called me back to check on how she was doing or what happened. There is absolutely no follow through (not the first time either) and complete lack of concern for their patients. read more

I would not recommend this place at all. The office won't let parents make sick visit. So every time when my kid was sick, I had to wait for two hours to be seen. The two-hour waiting time is painful when your kid is sick. Additionally, you don't get the same doctor every time during sick visit therefore inconsistent and potentially low quality service. My kid had ear infection several time. One doctor we saw said my kid didn't need tube. A week later when we saw another doctor, she said we should get tube. As a parent, it's confusing to know what to believe. It turned out to have tubes put in my kid's ears are supper bad advice. Without being told the risks, my kid's ear now has a hole as it won't heal after the tube fell out. I wish we got more consistent and well thought advice than what we experienced. All in all, I regret to take my kid to this place and definitely would not recommend this place and the doctors there. read more
