In town for the horse races so decided to have some fun and this place does not disappoint!…read more Everyone is so nice and helpful. So, there are different sections and you lay according to what you want to do which, I think, is ridiculous! But we tried them all! We expected about 90 minutes based on the website information and ended up there for 3 hours! Obviously they have a gift shop but very unique and popular where kids line up is the hand wax molding they do. Kids love it as they dip their hands in wax and the employees are very skilled at doing them. Keep in mind, we came with no kids, just 4 adults and it was, not only, interesting, but quite fun! In order of my favorites: By far the "moving theater" was exhilaration and fun. You sit in simulators with 3 D glasses on and have attached hand guns you use like in an arcade. Object is to shoot as many werewolf's as possible for points and the one with most points wins. The guy heading it was also helpful as well as fun and even offered to take a group photo for us. The chairs move and fans blow wind, it was my favorite! -House of Fear- another excellent experience, you walk through and see different types of menacing creatures typically found in horror flicks, very fun and somewhat interactive as you walk through, loved it -wax museum was next fave, so cool all the genres and time pieces, they weren't too lifelike but close enough to be amazed! -the regular Ripley's museum takes the longest only because so so many things to read about, the displays had very bizarre things and people, a little on the twisted side. -my least favorite was the house of mirrors. I just didn't like it, I went in and quickly turned around only to exit out of the entrance! However, this was my mom's favorite!! All in all, a very fun experience, it wasn't too crowded at all and they were a bit understaffed, but a nice experience for the family

Pretty challenging. I thought it would be easy. But nooo. When I walked up to the entrance twice I knew this was a tough one. The maze I loved because Ramsey was the first person we saw. And we share a birthday so being there on my birthday was great. The 4D movie was so much fun too. It was a great experience for the day.

You will learn the extreme lengths Michelangelo went to over 4 years to create these paintings. You will see up close the fine detail and will learn where Michelangelo's self portrait is and why he portrays himself this way. Do NOT SKIP the audio device. I bought a VIP package, and the clerk only gave me the option to scan a bar code and listen on my cell. I did not being ear buds so this was a waste to me. Later, as the exhibit got busier, I saw the audio devices, so that was annoying that I wasn't given that option. Finally, the paintings followed a good flow but the informational panels and accompanying audio are numbered and the numbers do not match the flow. The hand held devices could simply scan in. I had to scroll through a website. I also did not like the lighting. While this is a temporary exhibit, the lighting could have been improved. I was not impressed with the exposed extension cords. Each exhibit had a stand alone light fixture, and most of the cord was tucked away. But the plugs were exposed. Finally the light itself was harsh. It looked good on the wall, but was glaring when you needed to read the informational panel. I bought a book for $12 at the end. It essentially shows each panel separately and contains the same information as the wall description. I would have loved to have this in my hand while walking through. Finally, don't miss the video presentations. I do recommend this exhibit. If they would spend a little extra effort, I would make it a high recommend.

Saturday, September 21, 2019, was Smithsonian Magazine's annual Museum Day. If you're not hip to…read morethis terrific bargain yet, you need to be as it's "the perfect opportunity to explore a curiosity or passion without paying regular admission prices."  Although tours of Irving Heritage House are always free, they placed themselves on the list along with a dozen or so museums across DFW in order to bring more exposure to this wonderful Texas Historic Landmark. We were glad they did. Our one day pass for two was graciously accepted by knowledgeable docents and in return we received a wealth of information. The Irving Heritage Society has a lot going on throughout the year, most of it free. We were also gifted a hard copy of their centennial book, "Irving, Texas, From Rails to Wings." On to the house. We have a thing for historic buildings, homes and cemeteries. Nothing is better than learning something about the past that you didn't know before. And yes, I know how that sounds; but I love to see how people lived, worked and were remembered by their communities. This house, one of Irving's first and certainly most well built, was truly interesting. The builder owned a lumber yard, as did subsequent family owners, so really, it's perfection, although not a huge or elaborate mansion. A two bedroom, one bath built in 1912, they were the first to have plumbing in Irving. They also had a basement! Now that's definitely different for Texas. There are numerous built ins and lots of storage, something you also don't see much in homes of this age. The home was lived in by family continuously and then deeded to the city to be used as a tour home in 1975. After some minor restoration, the house was completely furnished with Schulze family antiques as well as gifts and loans from other Irving families. The house had aging wallpaper, that was retaining moisture, removed recently and the Society had those walls painted, as well as other painting done, so the docents kept apologizing for the disarray; but I just thought it looked lived in!! In truth, it looked like you could move right in. I won't go into the beautiful furnishings and decorative arts in all the rooms; but this is no dusty musty old place. The furniture has been loved. The needlepoint, linens, clothing and draperies are amazing. A Square Grand piano stands in the living room, an 1880 organ and antique mahogany upright piano are in the music room and the piano is played for teas! In the Solarium is a Majorica Plant Stand and Pot with 1890's Wicker furniture that I'm pretty sure could still hold you up! It's like Time travel. The bathroom is a hoot. I lived in houses with bathrooms like this one and so did my grandparents. I loved it, the light blue tile and the porcelain gas heater in the wall. The kitchen is functional today. Just no visible dishwasher. The not so good old days. Well, my grandma managed. There's an enclosed back porch with an open stoop and umpteen foot drop off with open steps at the rear of the home. Well, that's a slight exaggeration. A lovely playhouse is in back, years old, and it can be toured, too. Do it. Just walk around the house, if you don't want to take those steps. Once a chicken coop, it was stripped to the bones and redone. It has terrific vintage and antique toys, books and pictures of the Schulze children. We didn't get to see the basement. Too bad. Or not!

The back stoop! Something, isn't it? Can you imagine marching up and down those steps to hang up laundry?
