My parents didn't let me attend school here because of its reputation of being a party school but all of the students i came in contact with were pretty relaxed and friendly. The beach nearby and plenty of activities is a good start. The actual campus was much more scenic than I thought. Very impressive. The professors and students that we met on the visit were all very nice and informative. The students seemed to be happy to be attending the university and had seemed eager to promote the student body and faculty. My daughter would like to major in Marine Biology and both professors we met in that field were great. Made me wish I was going to college listening to them. Both were very knowledgeable and helpful. I would think that the classes they taught would be great. My daughter is still looking but they made a great impression. Definitely have your kid at least give them a look.

For those who need directions at hand simply log onto their website and use their Campus Map. The Hepburn Hall building is probably the building one uses the most when you first start. Here you'll find the admissions and bursars office. Buildings on campus are all walking distance. The athletic building is about a block away. Parking on campus can be a hassle at times as it can get full quickly, especially during evening classes. I recommend parking down the street in their West Campus lots. Shuttles run from 7am to 11pm continuously so no worries on walking. Yet, the walk is only about two blocks. A great perk of this university is the online student access. On their GothicNet you will find your personal information such as class registration, billing etc. Here you'll also find a library, computer lab, cafeteria and book store. Definitely had a great experience with this university and am proud to say I will always be a Gothic Knight!!

The new buildings and facilities are nice. The theater was gorgeous and the professors really get to know you if you make an effort. The price is decent if you want the best arts program right outside of NYC and there are a lot more options for commuting with the addition of the light rail. If you're looking for a school you can afford, but are living near NYC and can't afford NYU prices, you can't go too wrong here.

The administrative building (Blumenthal) is found on University (between Warren and Raymond). You go here for all your registration and bursar needs. The health center is also found there. Most of the buildings where you take classes are contained in the block created by University, Warren, MLK, and Bleeker. Within that square, it's convenient to go to classes. Plus, in this square block are the Dana Library and the Paul Robeson Student Center. The dorms are between Bleeker and Central. Then there are the buildings between University and Washington - Center got Law and Justice (law school and some criminal justice classes there), the parking Deck, Golden Dome Athletic Center, and other classroom buildings. There is also another Parking Deck on Washington between Raymond and Warren. If you don't have a car, there are many public transportation options. The campus is located close to the Washington Street stop on the light rail, and there are also a number of buses that will bring you close to campus. There is a lot more passive green areas and places to sit outside, than when I went to school here many moons ago. It used to be just concrete and red outdoor tables that were bolted to the ground (not as picturesque as today). I am a fan of the Rutgers-Newark Campus. Plus it's close to the Newark Museum and the Main Newark Public Library, as well as the Haynes & Co. building and other nice spots in Halsey Village.

The Newark campus is somewhat sparse with construction constantly going on just like in New Brunswick to beautify the school. Unfortunately it doesn't look like any of that is happening and after being here for a few years it barely looks like anything has changed. It's a headache coming down here in the morning and afternoon so unless you live near campus, which also not very inviting, it's just a hassle coming here, parking is a trap if you chance it parking on the street or you pay for a parking pass which still require $5 a pop after the $30+ subscription. Bursar, admissions, administration and everything else you have to deal with all bring on migraines and while I know this could be said for any University this one is especially so. I know Rutgers is held in high regard but personally my experience has been most unpleasant and coming to Newark for class is convenient but only a lesser of 2-3 evils.

By preference: Mostly 3-hour classes and hardcore teachers or lax teachers. Kind of a coin toss. A lot of dated material and older teachers who just don't give a single care about expressing unpopular personal opinions. Cons: I don't like this college. I've gone to a Suny school that had better amenities for half the price. Their financial aid and student service offices are literally a joke. They do the bare minimum amount of work. And, you get your financial aid checks almost a month after school starts, but they request you buy your books within the first 2 weeks. Con Gist: disorganized and rude.
