Have gone a few times over the past week. The chicken nachos and fries are excellent. The ribeye tacos are OK - should come with plenty of cilantro and onions - or - cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. Hence, they are somewhat dry. The biggest issue here, though, is the service. The first time we went the service was fine because there were only two other diners when we ate. Th e second time the service was not good, at all. Took a while just to get our drinks. More time waiting for food. Wife asked for ranch when the food arrived. It was supposed to come with her dinner. We didn't see our waitress, again, until we finished our dinner. My wife never got her ranch, we never got drink refills, and I never got extra napkins I asked for when the food arrived. The last time we went the service was somewhere in between, but not sure why the bartender / waitress was annoyed when I asked for a second refill of soda, especially since it was 115 degrees outside. This place looks like a hole in the wall but those are usually the best places, this did not let me down. I am going to say I'm not happy about the cigarette smoke but it is a bar when we are in Texas, so it is what it is. The waitress was super friendly and greeted us immediately when we walked in. We got our drinks quickly and she put in our order for mushrooms they came out within a few minutes hot crispy just the way I like them and was also thrilled to see they have a scratch made ranch dressing, my very favorite! Our meals that we ordered were both filet mignon medium rare and loaded baked potato. They came with a salad and when she brought out our empty bowls we just looked at her with a curious look on our face and she said oh, the salad bar is down there. I was a little surprised to see how small it was but pleasantly surprised to see how fresh everything was. Their vinaigrette dressing is delicious too. I'm not gonna lie it took a little while for our steaks to come out and I was getting worried that they were going to be overcooked. That happens a lot with medium rare steaks! I took about 20 minutes and they arrived I have never in all my life seen a filet mignon that was not wrapped in bacon but whatever I said to myself. When I took my first bite I was completely taken aback i've eaten many steaks in my life and I would say that this is probably in the top 10 maybe even the top five. It had a lot of flavor was very juicy and so tender. Our waitress continue to do an excellent job the remainder of our stay. I will be back again for another filet mignon... Enjoy!! read more

The steak here was so good and I could tell it was fresh. Well maybe I'm assuming since we were basically in cattle country. This is a good place to stop by if in the area. A lot of the locals were drinking and eating here. The French fries were SO dang good... very thick and seasoned just right. DON'T go through Vernon after 4PM without eating here! We were driving through on our way from Albuquerque to Dallas and checked Yelp for a place to eat. Rusty Spur had such good reviews we stopped. Boy were they not overstating. Best steaks I have EVER had. And I've been to Ruth's Chris, Pappas Steakhouse, Three Forks, etc. in Dallas. And at a fraction of the price and with salad and baked potato. Two of us had the 16 oz ribeyes and one had the filet (22.95 & 21.95). Every time each one of us took a bite we said mmmmm this is sooo good. I had a piece of red velvet cake and it was spectacular as well. Do not miss eating here! read more

This place was suggested by my nearby hotel, and when I saw the full parking lot, my expectations went up. However, upon walking in, I realized how small the place is and nothing was open other than a seat at the bar. No problem, I pulled up a seat and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally after 7 minutes, one of the staff finally asked if I wanted a drink. "Yes please, and a menu." Drink came 2 minutes later, followed by the menu after another 5 minutes. From there, I had a full 12 minutes to choose a meal before someone returned and took my order. Nearly 30 minutes since I walked in, let's see how long a medium-rare ribeye & baked potato take... Ok, not too bad on food delivery time. Food was OK until I saw the 2 guys working the kitchen (see photos). Stopped eating when one came out of the kitchen carrying a dog. Right at the 1 hour mark I was finally asked if I wanted something else to drink for the first time. Not once was I asked about my meal or if the steak was cooked to my liking. It took over 20 minutes to get the attention of the bartender to pay my bill. A little shocked to see it was $34.93 and she seemed insulted when I asked about prices. She went back and figured out it was actually supposed to be $24.93 - an overcharge of exactly $10.00. Hmm, not sure how that happened considering both totals included tax. The mathematical possibility that it was "accidentally" entered wrong seems extremely low considering tax is charged at a percentage of total. Had the overcharge been something like $36.43, an accident would have seemed more feasible. Last observations: Apparently this place is a good choice among families that like to let their kids go wild on the "stage" near the entrance. Literally, one boy of about 6 or 7 was standing on a chair screaming at top volume while his parents sat nearby eating/chatting with friends. And I should probably mention the flys. All around people were swatting at them. Not an infestation, but certainly enough to be a pain. The only reason I give this place any stars is due to the food being good overall and prices (when billed accurately) are reasonable. However, I'm not sure I would ever want to see the condition of the kitchen. Personally I will never visit this place again and can not recommend it to anyone. The fact that the local diners seemed to have figured out they have to walk up to the bar for refills and to check on food orders says a lot. Can't tell you how many I saw doing that rather than waiting at their table for service. (One guy came up 3 times asking about an order of fries, and not sure he ever got them). Overall - decent food but really poorly managed. read more

The menu has basically three steak choices. We all got the ribeyes cooked medium rAre. They were huge! Cooked to perfection. $22 for a huge quality steak, baked potato and salad, what a deal!The salad was good and had all sorts of salad fixins on it. We also liked the stuffed jalapeños. Menu included other options for everyone's tastes. If you want white tablecloths and candlelight this is not for you. However a great family spot or casual date. read more

Me and two friends decided to stop by here as we were traveling to Lubbock, as we walked in, not knowing anything about this small town "bar", a cloud of smoke rushed into my face. the place seemed popular since a lot of people were there. we sat at the last table in the back and it was dirty with a wet towel so i had to wipe it down so we could sit there. it seemed as if there was only two people working with the placed packed. after 15 minutes sitting there still no one came to the table to greet us. we were in a rush so we just decided to leave after not being helped. read more

We are in town for a disc golf event and decided to eat here by the pictures of the steaks we saw online. Ordered the KC steak and potato. They were amazing. Steak was very tasteful and the potato was perfectly cooked. My margarita wasn't strong, so that's why I'm giving the 4 stars instead of 5. I would come back anytime we are in Vernon. Had dinner there last Friday night. We had the Ribeye with a baked potato and salad. The steak was cooked perfect. We loved the atmosphere in there. Felt like you were among friends and family. I'm planning a family get together there for this Friday so my adult kids can check it out. We were not disappointed. Honest straight forward steak place inside a bar in a metal building. Service was friendly and efficient. Steaks were cooked to order and high quality (they advertise that all their steaks are Angus). Fair pricing. Full bar with good selection of spirits. We stopped in Seymour for the night and the motel owner said the Rusty Spur was the best place in town. I grew up on a ranch in Colorado and I know good beef when I eat it. The filet mignon was one of the best pieces of meat that I've ever had. If it wasn't so thick, I could have cut it with the fork. The only negative, and reason I can't give it 5 starts, to the place was the smoking, which almost set my asthma off. If we are ever back in the area, we will definitely stop again. read more

This place is a little gem just off the highway. It was a little intimidating walking in, the outside has the feel of a small town dive, but the inside is clean and well lit. Our server, (who we are guessing may be an owner also) was friendly and welcoming. I ordered the 8oz KC Strip/baked potato/salad and my husband got the 8 oz Filet/fries. The KC Strip was a little past medium but even so it juicy and had a great flavor. The Filet was cooked perfectly and tender enough to cut with a fork, and the fries were great too! read more
