This was a really great visit day with my adorable 89 year old mom-in-law. This lady is as sharp as…read morea tack in a petite and a little bit of a frail body. She will flat out tell you "I have no pains, why do I need a doctor". So we arrived today and go thru what everyone does at the first of the year...provide proof of insurance is the first thing the doctors office asks for...Ask an 89 year old woman this and the response is "Why"? Thankfully this is G's mom so he gets to deal with the stubborn parts of this issue, I get to stand back and be the angel of a daughter in law....which translates to being agreeable. After this insurance issue is handled its sit and wait time. Thankfully the wait time was in reason for what an 89 year old lady thought it should be. Whew! I was offered the chance to go back for the appointment, but I politely said it would be to many in a room so I would just wait in the very lovely waiting area. Patients went in one door to see the doctors and exited thru another door. The process seemed very streamlined and efficient. The wait for her to be finished seemed just about right for a doctor visit. She came out from the appointment with a smile but then said the doctor wanted her to exercise, which turned that smile to a bit of a snarly snicker. My response was, "well hes just trying to keep your muscles strong so you dont fall, and if you walked more maybe that would be good". The best neutral response I could give a stubborn little lady. We headed home with additional questioning of the new exercise routine. Whatcha gonna do??? Sometimes older people are just stuck in their ways, but thankfully a doctor with a great demeanor can persuade even the most stubborn of older ladies to exercise. Next check up in 4 months with and exercise plan in place. I might want to miss that visit.

I really appreciated my visit with Dr. Lyons today. I've had…read morecrappy chiropractors in my life but he's not one of them. The best chiropractors I've had in life have always been a little weird and eccentric - Dr. Lyons is no exception, but I mean that in the most positive way. In one session, we spent quite a bit of time together. He explained EVERYTHING the whole time. No, seriously, as he was helping me stretch my neck, he was explaining why some movements hurt more than others, what inflammation/movement restriction in certain areas means about muscles, etc. He was thorough. One thing I really liked about him was his use of multiple modalities. He used the "therapy" on me - an electric stimulation method that was like a more effective TENS unit on steroids - prior to my adjustments because he said it would help relax the muscle so that I move better. I'm inclined to say he was right because my neck moved soooo much better for my adjustment. I had a few quick adjustments. I feel much better, though and look forward to returning. A few notes: - He's been there since the 80s, so the office is a little quirky and outdated. It's clean, it's just old. In my experience, this is not uncommon with chiros. -The staff here is incredibly friendly and nice. -The check-in process was incredibly easy for me. I booked through ZocDoc so that may have played a role, but it was easy. -His office has its own private lot and is right on the corner. He shared a building with a physical therapist. -He accepts insurance. I know he's in-network for Aetna but I'm unaware of others.
