Abel, the owner, came from LA to the little town of Shelbyville to escape the madness that is California; he lived there 15 years. He and his wife are so sweet... I feel like family! This is a more Hispanic type bakery than an "American" type... and the bakery cases are filled with breads almost too pretty to eat... cheesecakes, tarts, flan, many gorgeous sweets I have no idea what they are but I want... mega YUM... beautifully decorated cakes and pies that one doesn't normally see around here... it's a literal feast for the eyes before you ever buy anything to eat!!! (I do need to brush up on my Spanish, as English is their second language... but Abel's English is fantastic. No one will have a problem understanding anyone, I don't think.) It was supposed to be heated up...I can't say it was much more than a little above room temperature. But I munched on it in my car and thought it was pretty good. A little dry, as many scones tend to be, but the coconut glaze and cream was flavorful and silky. I enjoyed it. I planned on sharing the hazelnut pastry with my husband later. However, I examined it when I got home (mind you, I hadn't opened it since after leaving the restaurant) only to find...a short, slightly curly black hair attached (baked in?) to it. Facepalm.
