Rumsey Playfield in the summer time is called Summer stage. It is a great outdoor venue for musical concerts and events alike. I have been here for many concerts and some festivals. Like this past weekend was here for Oktoberfest. For Each event its different set up. Most events here have a VIP section where they get their own private "real" bathrooms instead of using a porta potty. The people who volunteer/work at these events are usually pretty helpful and nice. I like coming to events and concerts here.

It's very rocky. Taken in April 2021. Posted with review 05/05/21

Rumsey Playfield in Central Park is a total mess. I'm see people wrote reviews a while ago. Maybe they haven't been back in a while. I was really shocked when I was there about a week ago. It's got remnants of electricity outlets. It's sand and rock that's not fit to walk on let alone play. The building is locked up. It's supposed to be a sports field for older children. I wouldn't feel safe playing there at any age. There were conservatory volunteers working nearby outside the fence. I asked for a bathroom. They said there wasn't a bathroom here. Nearest one is at Bethesda Terrace. It's my opinion it should be completely renovated and used for a better purpose. It looks abandoned.

GERMAN BEER!!!!

Rumsey Playfield is a terrific spot for special events in Central Park located a few minutes walk away from the east side location by the 72nd and 5th Avenue entrance. I have been here a bunch of times for things and just this weekend for the annual German - American Oktoberfest that is held each year here. Again, a great time. PROST! Usually, the security and line organization is set up pretty efficient and this event was no exception. The lines were marked with accurate signage, the crowds were under control, and the staff on hand were polite and did their jobs. They even had a lot of new portapotties around that were labeled for men and women. The huge tent was set up with a ton of tables. Plenty of space to get around for beer and food outside of it. Large stage set up for all the bands to perform. Security was walking around but you hardly noticed them. Very laid back and did not have any attitude or get in the way of the festivities. The weather was perfect this day and the event was a blast. They do a great job setting this up each year. One of the best locations for a public event as long as the weather cooperates.

Beyoncé

I stayed here over night , patiently waiting to see the beautiful Beyoncé. What a lovely experience. The park is very nice and kept clean. I didn't see any strange animals but there was a lot of people so maybe they were frightened. Anyways, if you're going for a concert don't expect to see all that much. I could barely see Beyoncé, but I wouldn't blame the park for that. There were nice little benches to sit on and plenty of lanterns to keep the park well lit at night.

LaGuardia had their 2021 High School graduation here and it was pretty cool. Great weather made it a fantastic experience.

Year of Ox

This is a really fantastic place for public events and shows, as long as the weather wants to cooperate. The location is great and wasn't nearly as deep in the middle of Central Park as the map makes it seem. The people working the venue and security are surprisingly friendly. I didn't get a chance to really check out the food and drinks, but there seemed to be a fair amount of options for both. The venue was set up nicely, with options for sitting on the ground, standing in front, and even bleachers in the back. I was standing front and center and had a great time, though my spot did allow me to experience some minor problems with the sound system. The waits between each act weren't as long as they have been in other venues I've been to. I saw Year of Ox, a Korean-American rap duo, headlining with two other Korean groups (SsingSsing and Coreyah) here on Monday, thanks to the Korean Cultural Center of NY. The show itself was a blast and I'd definitely be back for more Year of Ox! Word of advice: go to the bathroom before arriving. My show was from 5-10 and there were only portable toilets, all of which were an absolute mess inside.

The Kooks and Foster the People at SummerStage!
Laura M.

I think there's a rule here that the main act can't start until the audience has stood around for an hour and a half. In both of my experiences at the Rumsey Playfield SummerStage, once for Foster the People and the Kooks and again for Childish Gambino, Yelper Ben Y. and I waited through long stalls between opener(s) and the headliner. But I think some sort of chemical is released in your brain the moment the headliner does come on, because the frustration over waiting dissipates as quickly as your money when you buy anything from the merch stand. Security is super light at these concerts. "Security" is 20-25 year old girls walking around with a badge that says "staff," telling concert-goers to not cross the yellow line. The whole place is super lax. The food is classier than you would initially expect. City Winery (love the place) has a booth set up for wine, and there are several beer stands, and a homemade brick-oven pizza stand. We ordered two slices and a water bottle and the total was twelve bucks. Not bad. Both shows I've seen here were great, and we got to sit in the bleachers they have set up. Most people choose to stand, but I'd rather not get involved in the riff-raff of mosh-pits, etc. I look forward to next year's SummerStage line-up!

We didn't know it was Morgan's last show as Eliza, so we were definitely in for a treat and an emotional ending! Loved the show but hated the restroom flow during intermission! Line going all the way into the theater even just before the start of the second half! But I'm certainly not going to reduce the star rating since the show is every bit as amazing as you can expect!

I can write many reasons to see Hamilton, the Broadway musical…read more 1. The lyrics resonates depth with meaning. 2. The music is a blend that draws heavily of hip-hop, rap, R&B, soul, pop, and traditional Broadway show tunes. Modernized to 2015 era. Theatre patrons will not fall asleep. Theatre patrons will not be bored. Your ticket price paid is worth the theatrical experience. 3. It is based on the biography Alexander Hamilton, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States who was an instrumental supporter of the U.S. Constitution who fought alongside President George Washington in the Revolutionary War. His work laid the foundation of America whose face is worthy to be depicted on the U.S. $10.00 bill. 4. It depicts history of Hamilton's journey beginning as a Caribbean immigrant rising to America's first Secretary of the Treasury. It is deeply rooted in New York City history. It depicts American history of the opposition fight for independence and creation Independence of United States of America. He is buried in Trinity Church, Financial District, Lower Manhattan, NYC. It also narrates Aaron Burr's rivalry and jealously Hamilton's strong ambition, brilliance, and determination to rise. "Hamilton wrote the other 51!" Running time: about 2 hours and 45 minutes including a 15 minute intermission. I went to the room where it happens. I write this review like I was running out of time. Yesterday is a memory. Today is an opportunity. Tomorrow is not promised. Non-stop. Keep writing! I tell my story of my experience. It was exciting, lively and upbeat which does takes you back in time of Revolutionary America in 18th century period clothing with modern language and modern music. Ticket prices are highly extortionate! Tickets starts $127.00 to $155.00 for upper balcony or standard face-value seats. My rear orchestra center ticket was an astonishing extortionate $228.00! Hamilton, the Broadway musical makes use of the Richard Rodgers Theatre's double-nested rotating stage (turntables) prominently to create a dynamic, continuous movement and cinematic flow. I wish I saw the 2015 original cast Alexander Hamilton (Lin-Manuel Miranda) and Aaron Burr (Leslie Odom Jr.). Wait for it. Forward, eleven (11) years later I am now seeing it in 2026. I now have another Playbill and Broadway show ticket to add to my growing Playbill collection. Casting is non-white actors as the Founding Fathers of the United States and other historical figures for inclusion and equality. As per Lin-Manuel Miranda, songwriter, actor, and producer who described Hamilton: "America then, as told by America now." There is no traditional stage curtain for this Broadway show, but it did start and end on time - on point. There are 34 musical numbers total (17 musical numbers in each Act). The narrative is almost entirely sung and rapped through, thus, the numbers flow directly into each other without the traditional pause to segue in-between numbers. There is very little dialogue for spoken word as I would like a mix. There are occasional expletive explicit laden lyrical lines/ verses depicting strong explicit language "goddamnit." This includes uncensored F-word during the indiscretion of Hamilton's affair. "Cabinet Battle #1" & "Cabinet Battle #2" feature insults and harsher colloquial terms as "pain in the ass" and "shit." There are other numbers where expletive explicit laden lyrical embedded are "bastard" and "whore." Surely, my teddy bears speak more eloquently than thee! The costumes replicate 18th century Revolutionary era including U.S. founding fathers in white linen or lace cravats. My predilection for Hamilton musical numbers are: Satisfied Wait For It That Would Be Enough Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down) Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story Live with intention. My passions and interests entice me to pursue more to look around. "When everyone who loves me has died" this I can absolutely relate. "Death does not discriminate. It takes and it takes and it takes. I am the one thing in life I can control. I am an original." These versus resonate depth for meaning. Rise Up!

I have always questioned to learn, to attain knowledge, to cultivate clarity, to understand, to seek truth, to learn one's deliberate intent, sometimes to challenge and seldom to rebel. Not Slytherin. Not Slytherin. I have been a Harry Potter fan since the early 2000s when the first book by J.K. Rowling was printed and released. I absolutely refused to see a double-day / two-part play show format 5+ hours to be left hanging and return another day/time as it was originally produced, but this has changed which prompt as my reason to see it years later in 2026. This Broadway play does not play John Williams' film score "Hedwig's Theme" as I had desirable hoped. I do believe in magic. I saw Tom Felton perform his originated role as Draco Malfoy from the film franchise. As per "New York Theatre Guide" Tom Felton reprise his role as adult Draco Malfoy now through January 3, 2027! Run time: 2 hours and 55 minutes, with one intermission. One word: WOW! The narrative was at first somewhat difficult to follow especially the Time-Turner Effect scenes of what exactly did Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy changed or prevent from occurring? The set design, staging for quickly moving set, props by swirling long robes without revealing stage hands' faces, costumes are great and resonantly brought the viewer into J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter world as an adult nineteen (19) years after J.K. Rowling's final novel, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" of Harry, Ron and Hermione. The special effects including character swap Polyjuice Potion, including Dementors menacing floating near the audience and aerialist stunts in duels were amazing. I particularly like the special effects from Time-Turner for use of projection mapping high-powered projectors cast warping, liquid-like visual distortions; acoustic design low-frequency sound waves and the entire set appear to bend, stretch, and ripple effect like a disturbed puddle reverberating into the auditorium. The clocks placed in the corners of the stage spun recklessly rapidly. WOW. Voldemort's half-daughter leaves "invisible" scribbles on a bookshelf to be decoded by a black light above the audience visible on the ceiling and balcony facade projected throughout the auditorium walls in an eerie shade of green which garnered a lot of oohs from the audience including myself. Oh! Hot air emitting from Scorpius' ears after he eats candy is very comically humorous. The narrative does include and bring back old characters as the cruel villain, apathetic Dolores Umbridge and the wailing angst Moaning Myrtle and ill-fated Cedric Diggory. Moaning Myrtle's costume was not true to the book as her hair is not in pigtails and she is not wearing the Hogwarts uniform. Moaning Myrtle is depicted as grayed out who is a ghost. Draco Malfoy's iconic film line: "Scared, Potter?" and Harry Potter's response "you wish" are spoken resonate an echo in this Broadway play from the film. I purchased jelly beans and one chocolate frog. My chocolate frog contains Albus Dumbledore card. Yes, there is contained fire, and water tank underneath the stage.

The show was amazing and it made me feel like I was in the year 2016!! This was the second time I waited on standby and let's just say the last time I went, I tried to give Jimmy a high five and fell... What was different was the musical guest was at the show and Jimmy let the audience ask some questions and I had a lightbulb moment. And then I asked if I could get a hug. And he jokingly said no at first, but then he said I'm not gonna leave you hanging without a hug and I started walking out of my row and met him halfway near the desk on the last row and got a hug!! He thanked me for being so supportive and I remember crying!! He asked if my cat was named Jimmy or Fallon and told me to tell Fallon that he says hi. I ended up getting another hug and went back to my seat afterwards. All I remember is someone else asking a question about working with Queen Latifah again and the musical guest performing. I'm just relieved that my sobs weren't caught in the background because I was crying throughout the performance. When the show ended, he went back into the audience giving them high fives and when he was at my row, he leaned over so I could reach without falling and shook my hand!! That made me cry even harder! We didn't have tickets, so we went to the gift shop at 30 rock through the 6th ave entrance to score some stand-by tickets. We arrived what I would call late, at about 11am. If you want to get these stand-by tickets I'd recommend arriving as close to 8am as you can, because every ticket is numbered and they can only fit so many people into the studio (they will always try to fill it). If I recall correctly the tickets said to come back to 30 rock at 3:15 but note - if you arrive a bit later, say 3:30, it won't effect your chances of getting in - the most you can do to increase your chances to see a show that day by walking in is to get there at 8am when they first start giving out the numbered stand-by tickets. Also, while they say you cant bring in bags, I had a smaller sized north face backpack and my friend had a large plastic bag and a small purse. If your number gets you in to see the show that day, you will pass through security like at an airport. Everything is extremely orderly and organized, the only stressful part is 'am I going to get in to see the show or did I just spend an hour and a half of my day for nothing.' My friend and I just got in under the wire, with the guy behind us being the very last person to stand-by for this day's show (there were about 56 stand-by visitors accepted that day). You will have an opportunity to use a bathroom before you sit for the filming, so don't be concerned about that. If you're a fan of TV or of Fallon you might prepare a question or two to ask him, he took a number of questions from the audience. The funniest one was 'are you going to use that entire bit you just did' because Jimmy and Drew Brees spitting pumpkin seeds went on far, far, FAR too long, about 3? minutes, which was about 2:45 longer than it needed to be. Jimmy was quick with the 'no, that's going to be edited down.'
