Went for Mother's Day brunch - its very, VERY strange to me that this is a place that is all over magazines saying its a place to go for Mother's Day brunch. Although the staff tried their best, it has all the charm of an airport lounge. The food was not bad. Had the lamb tostada and that was actually very good. It was the most unconventional thing in the buffet so I had to give it a shot and it was really enjoyable. The rest was pretty blah - I think their bagels come from costco? Maybe not but I just don't understand using pre-fab bagels from a supermarket when you are charging people $90/head for brunch. Again, the service was great but we ended up spending $320 for my wife and two kids (kids eat for $40/head) and that was with zero drinks. Rumorosa is located inside the Sheraton near the San Diego airport. We were flying home and decided to stop here for breakfast before heading out. We went with the buffet, which had a good variety of options including scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, fruit, breads, jams, and cereal. Everything was fresh and there was plenty to choose from. The only thing I wish they had was an omelet station. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, and the service was very good--friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Overall, it was a nice way to start the day before our flight. We just wish we had another day to spend at the resort, as it seems like a really nice place to stay. read more

Rumorosa is in our hotel, and we visited 3 separate times. The breakfast was great, would definitely recommend, and the cocktails were also tasty (missed a pic opportunity). However, on visit 3, we just wanted a snack. The queso was not good, very grainy like it had been sitting or wasn't mixed/melted thoroughly. The chips were good, but sliced jalapeños were just kind of tossed on top. Don't recommend. Service was great on our breakfast visit, and good and decent on our other two visits. Prices are decent for a hotel restaurant and bar. I really would give 3.5 stars if possible. Definitely go for breakfast and explore the area for other options for lunch and dinner. read more

Wonderful service and delicious food! We stayed in the resort and were not expecting much, but Rumorosa went beyond our expectations. We had the breakfast menu on two occasions and the selections were hard to choose from, but we got the steak Benedict and the French toast de olla. The steak Benedict was layered with flavor and beautiful presentation. The sauce was rich with flavor and the steak was tender. The French toast de olla is next level. Served with horchata whipped cream, accompanied by juicy berries and candied pecans- the flavors work well together. We asked for maple syrup but to be honest- it wasn't needed. I sat there for a while to get some work done, and she made sure I was always comfortable and taken care of without ever feeling intrusive. I never thought I'd find myself craving hotel restaurant food but Rumorosa is not just any other "hotel restaurant"...the service, the views, the ambience, the music and the quality of the food and drinks would keep anyone coming back for more. I was welcomed to sit down at the bar by Adriana and was given full service and attention by her and Lorena. Adriana pointed out a couple new menu items and I couldn't help but order both the new Chicken Pozole and Poke Bowl. Wow, wow, wow! The wait for food felt completely seemless as Lorena and Adriana engaged in natural conversation and were both so sweet and genuine. You can tell the two of them have such good energy and it is felt amongst the entire bar. I could tell other patrons were loving them as well. Now about the food! The chicken pozole was made in a green sauce with subtle comforting flavor making it a yummy starter for the meal. And the poke bowl may have just beat out the Tuna Tostada as my top favorite menu item. My friends and I came to Rumorosa during SDRW for its enticing restaurant week deal. While the views of the harbor were stunning and food quite tasty for a hotel restaurant, the service was extremely disappointing and ruined our overall experience. The good: the restaurant week menu is a great deal, 3 courses for $45. With our group, we were able to sample almost every dish on the menu. For appetizers, my favorite dishes were the heart of palm ceviche and the tetelas. The rock shrimp ceviche, while tasty, is not your typical ceviche. As others have mentioned there is a mole type sauce so don't be disappointed when the shrimp hasn't been marinated in citrus juices. For our main course, the star of the show is the skirt steak with chimichurri sauce. The meat is cooked to perfection and elevated with the chimichurri sauce. The potatoes and shishito peppers complimented the dish nicely. The braised short rib was dry and needed more jus. For dessert, the arroz con leche was not what I expected at all, it was thick and not sweet. the cream cheese flan was the winner of the desserts for me. Now, the bad: We waited ~40 minutes from finishing our main course before we received our dessert. During this time, we did not see our server more than once nor were we checked in on or informed there'd be a delay. Food was coming out of the kitchen at a snails pace. At this point, we were antsy and agitated by the lack of communication. We didn't even want our desserts anymore. Our early dinner reservation for 5:30 did not end up finishing until 8:15. Note, the restaurant only provides parking validation for 2 hours Though the GM rectified the situation, I do not plan to return unless I happen to be staying at this Sheraton. read more

The service was great but it wasn't as attentive as restaurants I've dine in the past in the area. Food was great and I really enjoyed the ceviche due to it primarily being veggies, no meat. We returned to this restaurant after more than six months hoping our previous experience had been an anomaly. Unfortunately, it was not. This was our fifth visit overall, and for the second time we experienced the same issues: no greeting, no water, no check-ins, and inattentive service throughout the meal while surrounding tables were clearly attended to. We had to get up ourselves for basic items like hot sauce and water refills. The difference in service was obvious, especially as buffet diners. What made this experience worse was the follow-up from management. Lorraine's response was polite but entirely generic -- stating that "service experiences can vary" and offering no acknowledgment of a repeated issue, no apology that addressed the pattern, and no indication that anything would be done differently. After documenting the same problems months apart, that response felt dismissive and lacking accountability. We've had good experiences here in the past, which is why we gave it another chance. Unfortunately, between the repeated service failures and the poor management follow-up, we won't be returning. Posting this so future guests can make an informed decision and in the hope that leadership takes guest feedback -- and follow-through -- more seriously. read more

Waiter was very friendly and kind. Our chips and queso appetizer was.... Interesting. It wasn't creamy or rich like you expect queso to be, it was quite watery. I wouldn't recommend that. The first mojito I had was decent. The second mojito I had was completely different and tasted like straight lemonade. I don't know how you mess up a mojito, it's soda, sugar, lime and mint and run... anyways I ordered it because the menu at the host stand said $11 but when we paid it said $16 so that was extremely annoying. lol. My entree was the Veracruz sea bass which I found very YUMMY! As for everything else, I would not recommend. The waiter was nice but the service was soooo slow. The floor is level and there's a ramp to the omelette station and food selection. The restaurant serves a full buffet till about 1 PM. The restaurant also has a menu. The price is reasonable. If you're looking for waterfront dining with the spirit of Mexico, rumor has it that Rumorosa is the place to go. I heard it's San Deigo's best coastal drinking and dining scene. I definitely can confirm it is. I had a beautiful waterfront dining experience during the Dia De Los Muertos festivities. When I walked in, I immediately saw the vibrant decorations throughout the bright, spacious, and immaculate restaurant. I received a very warm welcome from staff. After I sat down at my table, I explored the menu while enjoying the serene view of the Bay. I thought to myself...a buffet-style brunch is a fantastic way to celebrate. With a few trips to the buffet, I indulged in the flavors of each authentic dish and drink inspired by this cultural holiday which were all delightful. My compliments to the chef! We were here for a wedding rehearsal dinner. Both the cocktail hour food and drink and the dinner we had were great.

I went here for SDRW and although this place is gorgeous with the scenic view of the harbor and spacious with airy modern decor, there's still much to be improved. I made reservations and it took about 10-15 minutes for our waiter to come and acknowledge our presence. We started our order with cocktails and four cocktails were not available! It was only 7pm and we were disappointed that we had to choose what we can from the cocktail menu. For my app I got the Shrimp Ceviche. This was an interesting dish. The sauce at the bottom tasted like mole but I think this was the citrus soy. I've never had ceviche presented with a mole type of sauce with it so the jury is still out with this app. I did finish it though. It does come with your own side of chips which was nice. My entree was the Pacific Seabass. The seabass is my all time favorite fish and this sadly disappointed. First off, the plating wasn't great. The taste was meh. The skin wasn't crispy. For my dessert I chose the flan. Although the menu stated Mezcal Flambé, there was no flambé. The portion size was big and it was smooth and creamy. Service was super slow, half the time we were looking for our waiter. Not sure if I would be returning here. read more

Rumorosa is an onsite restaurant at Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. It is basically their main spot to eat for most meals. The menu changes from meal to meal. I did not partake in breakfast, but I did enjoy a lunch and snacked on a few things from the dinner menu. My first experience here was for a staff lunch. One of my things about restaurants is that I have an allergy that isn't common so that limits what I can have. When I told this to our server he went back to the kitchen to see if that was in any of the foods and came back to me and went over the menu with me. What I am allergic to is one a lot of things or in a lot of things, and everything on this menu for lunch had that item in some way. After looking everything over the server said that they would be able to prepare a good old cheeseburger and fries as it wouldn't have any of what I can't have. I thought that was a nice touch to accommodate me with something to eat even though it was not listed on the menu. The burger patties were flavorful and filling, toppings were fresh, and the fries were crisp. It was a good meal for a quick lunch and I was pleased that they were able to make me something to enjoy. As for the menu for later in the day, I didn't go too hard as it was late when we got here and I wanted to just get something not so heavy since I was going to be heading to bed soon. I went with their Caesar Salad and it was the right amount of food for a late night snack. Fresh Romaine lettuce, garlic croutons, parm, and caesar dressing. Just the right amount and made for a great light meal. The best thing about this, if you can drown out the noise with it being so close to the lobby area, is the view. The restaurant looks out over the marina and given the right time of day, you get a gorgeous view. I opted for a kale salad for $16. The dressing was lemon avocado and tasted pretty good. But the kale tasted and looked more like mixed greens so not sure if they ran out of kale? Rumorosa is the main restaurant located on the ground level of the renovated Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina on Harbor Island. On the evening I showed up for dinner, there must have been an on-site convention as there was a large crowd of people gathered around the lobby bar which was slightly elevated above the dining room. Views of the marina were expansive from that area which could seat over 150 diners. The style of cuisine was a fusion of California and Baja influences. As the signature eatery of the property, the prices were not cheap. For example on the lunch menu, a half dozen Crispy Wings glazed with agave chipotle and spicy escabeche would set you back $18!! Street Tacos with different proteins served on heirloom corn tortillas with the same spicy escabeche cost $8 each. Mindful of the sticker shock, I looked at the dinner offerings carefully. My selections were the Fried Tetela as an appetizer and the Roasted Airline Breast for an entree. The tetela was the Oaxacan version of a samosa. There were three triangle-shaped corn masa pastries filled with chorizo, potatoes, oaxaca, avocado mousse, cotija, and salsa casera. The potatoes made this appetizer quite filling by itself. The main dish was roasted chicken served with mole divorciado, mole negro, mole rosa, roasted ajonjolí, and pickled onions. It was all about three moles as the roasted chiles were sweetened with chocolate to give earthy flavors. The acidity of the pickled onions helped cut through the thickness of the sauces. With so many folks at the bar, I think there might have been only one other party seated for dinner. That allowed the waitstaff to devote extra attention to my table and the menu questions I had. While the food quality was good, I couldn't help but keep my rating of Rumorosa below four stars because of the hotel-influenced pricing. read more
