I've been wanting to take a Rumble Boxing class for years. I'm getting back into fitness and I was recently in NYC for a nice long visit and decided to just jump in and go for it. I booked a noon class on a Tuesday. I arrived in plenty of time to buy a set of hand wraps, water, and put my belongings in a locker. The class was 45 minutes and very challenging. Considering I'm 49 and I believe everyone else there was in their 20s or 30s I thought I did great. The only thing I modified were a few of the ab exercises. I've taken about 20 classes at this studio and for the price of a class, it's hard to think the studio lives up to the hype. ClassPass makes it a little more affordable or I try to buy a package deal when they run promos. The women's locker room space is so small and class times are tightly packed together so it's hard to enjoy the showers/products when there's 50+ women in a tight space. Also I'm sad they haven't reopened the sauna since Covid. It's really wasted space that could be utilized to make the locker room larger. I've taken both boxing and training classes and prefer the boxing ones. Boxing involves half your time boxing and half strength training. Training classes are half treadmill work and half strength. I do prefer the rumble treadmills over Barry's ones. Some instructors are better in providing clear instructions and timing the music/moves so you aren't rushing and getting the best workout. You just have to find who you like. Fav instructors are Noah, Bobby Jo and Bradford. LOVE the new straight up boxing class with Noah; they really go into form and technique which you don't get in a regular class. read more

I randomly picked a class on ClassPass and was pretty confused for most of the class. The class is split into 2 sections, bags and seats. It is very fast paced and is a great workout but just isn't intimate enough for me (there will be 20+ people in a class). Rumble is like a spin class for boxing -- you work out in a dark and loud environment with an instructor yelling encouraging things at you to pump you up, but this is not a place to learn how to box for real, more for cardio and working up a sweat. Your mileage may also vary depending on the instructor you get and if you like their vibe. I knew what I was getting into when I came by, but I also already know how to kickbox so don't really need instruction. The boxing classes are split into half the time on the "bags" (it's a tear-shaped water bag, so punching only) and half on benches where you do some workouts with or without weights. The pace of the class is pretty fast so sometimes it's hard to keep up with what the instructor is saying if you haven't done a class before or are unfamiliar with the move. That said, it's dark inside so you do you and nobody will be the wiser. Each person gets a station (you can pick your number/location when you book the class) and when you switch to the bench you keep the same number. The staff was always nice when checking me in, but sometimes it takes a while because there are only two people there and there can be quite a few people trying to come in right before a class starts (wonder if there could be a more efficient way to check people in, like a QR code you can scan or something?). You're asked to wait on the first floor until just before your class starts, and the elevator doesn't stop on the boxing studio floor (level 4), so take the stairs. The stairs/elevator isn't a great way for funneling lots of people, so I didn't really like that part of this facility. All in all, it was a nice workout but I wouldn't come here to learn how to box, but to punch something in a non-contact environment. Facility is a bit awkward to use/navigate but it seems pretty clean and well-kept. Wraps are required ($8 one time and you keep them or bring your own), and gloves are $3 per rental or bring your own. read more

Every year, I try to find a new fitness class to do just to change my fitness routine. I never tried a boxing class before, but I heard great things about Rumble so I decided to check it out for the first time since I had a free month of Classpass. Signing up for classes are super easy - I just book directly on the Classpass app. When you check in at the front desk, you are assigned either a bag number or floor number to start (similar to Barry's - you switch sides a couple of times throughout the class). If it's your first class, you'll have to purchase some wraps (to protect your hands from the punching bag) but your glove rental is free your first visit. After, you'll have to pay to rent the gloves, so if you go pretty often, you might as well just buy some gloves from Amazon. If you're on the floor side, you'll do more strength training and if you're on the bag side, you'll be punching the bags. Definitely show up on time if it's your first class - the instructors explain how the class works during the first 5 minutes and if you're late (like I was my first time..) you might feel lost the first couple minutes of class. Each boxing move has a number assigned to it (1 to 6) and the moves are projected on the wall so you can follow along if you get lost during class. There's definitely a learning curve to learning the different combos but it's fun either way! If you're looking to switch up your workout routine, I highly recommend checking out Rumble since it's a good mix of cardio + strength training. Writing this review on my Rumble high so excuse any spelling/grammar errors. I took the 7am class with Spencer. I was nervous for my first class but as soon as I walked in the front desk made me feel welcomed! They explained the class in short and how it works. Gloves free with the first class! The locker room on the 3rd floor is clean! The showers spotless but I think I was the second class of the day? The workout itself was soooo much funn! Spencer had an ease to him. A do your best but push yourself mentality. He doesn't call people out, he just motivates the class. The class itself was an excellent workout with INCREDIBLE explanations and extra help on the screen to those of us who are not familiar with boxing. No phone lines and they're not prompt to reply to emails. So essentially you have to walk in if you have a question. Terrible. The classes themselves are fun. I like Keith's class! Though when he explains to the floor side what they're about to do he doesn't tell the bag side what they should be doing. All other instructors assign the bag side some activity during that instruction period. Wish instructors were slightly more involved. Most stay on the podium and don't offer any corrections at all, even if someone is doing something crazy/unsafe with the heavy weights. They MUST step up the cleaning. The whole place needs a fresh coat of paint but I came in on a Monday and there were little bits of trash on the outskirts of the room (including a band aid)....came back on a Wednesday and all the same trash was still there. This place is not being vacuumed daily. My floor station yesterday had 3 of the same weight and zero of the weight I needed. Cleaning staff needs to actually *CLEAN* in between classes. It's getting very gross. Hairballs in the corners of the rooms, dust absolutely everywhere. Feels a little like a frat house (fun but filthy). read more

For the most part I've frequented the Flatiron/Chelsea location but I recently was able to check out the new UES location. I had no idea it was so close to the 86th St stop. I'm often in that area for the monthly Shake Shack Shack Track & Field runs. This location is a different setup than the others. After check-in, you can use the lockers on the main floor, or go to the locker room. The men's locker room is downstairs which you reach by walking to the back of the main floor, taking the back stairs down. The women's locker room is on the 3rd floor. There are stairs or you can also take the elevator. Just a note - the elevator will not take you to the 2nd or 4th floor, just the 3rd floor where the locker rooms are. Also on the 3rd floor is a Dry Bar Studio. I haven't ever been to one, but it's nice to know the option is there. When you check-in, they'll offer wraps, gloves and even water or Rumble Juice if you want. Wraps are a one time, keep them, $8 charge. Just bring them back each class. Gloves are $3 rental, or you can bring your own or buy some from Rumble too. Until your class has started, just hang out in the locker room or in the lobby area. There are benches there for you to chill until class starts so you don't clog up the stairwell. Class will let out right before your class so it can get really crowded otherwise. I recently used the showers after a workout and was surprised about the quality of the products. I saw in another review that they use Dry Bar shampoo, conditioner and body wash. I remember the shampoo and conditioner having charcoal but didn't realize it was Dry Bar. That's pretty cool. The amenities in the locker room are great. Toiletries, hair ties, deodorant, and even dry shampoo when you don't have time for a shower. I want to say they have Dry Bar hair dryers but don't quote me on that. I let my hair air dry that day. The workouts are great at keeping you moving and your heart rate up. I have yet to get bored at a Rumble class. The instructors are constantly changing up their classes so you don't often repeat a workout. I like that there is a break between bag and floor, then back to bag then floor. It keeps your strength up because I tend to go a little crazy that first half on the bag side. Getting all that pent up NYC aggression out! Keisha, my fav instructor, has even managed to get me to (cough) dare I say, enjoy burpees? At least it's the lesser of two evils when given a choice between that and doing cherry pickers or high knees. I struggle with those sometimes. Short legs here. Recently Keisha moved to Cali to open the new San Francisco store - go her! So I am now going to have to figure out who to take classes from next! Finally I went in to talk to them about boxing classes. I caught them as they were opening. Other times I tried they were very busy. Paola the Manager on duty today greeted me so welcoming and friendly. I asked a couple questions and she was great filling in all the information that my questions would generate. They offer a high intensity boxing workout and exercise program. Two sections are included in a workout. It's 45 minutes of loud music and flashing lights. You pay by the class. New students get two classes for the price of one. It runs around $36.00 a class. They also offer one on one boxing lessons with a personal trainer. That is $175.00 per hour. If you bring a friend the friend is an additional $75.00. I'm going to pause to say that Paola gave me a lot of information. She directed me to their website for all the details. I'm glad as I don't want to give you Yelpers misinformation. Please go to the website if you're interested in participating. I'm sure the details and prices are all there. I watched as this business was being constructed. I'm so glad it's open on the Upper East Side. I would love to take a class. I'm going to try to get my daughter to attend with me. I'm not sure about the loud music. The individual class sounds like it would make a great mother daughter experience for a special gift! I grew up during a time when we watched boxing on TV and people went to see Boxing Matches. I always wanted to try it just to get out some great punches as hard as I can. It combines cardio (either boxing or running, depending on which class you take) and weight lifting in a fun, challenging, and engaging way while also helping you learn and refine skills. I love this location and feel everyone is supportive, the amenities are clean and nice, and the workout space is actually spacious and nice (rarer for NYC studios). This studio is MASSIVE. With 4 floors, it's hard to know where to start. There are plenty of lockers on the ground level, which will be nice if you're already changed for class or don't need to otherwise use the locker room because the women's locker room is on the third floor and those stairs are like a pre-class warmup. The women's locker room is a nice size with plenty of vanity space so you don't feel like you're squeezing in to blow dry your hair or freshen up after class. They also stock Drybar products and blowdryers (which YASSS) for your hair needs. This location has cowshed products as well for face/body. The actual workout studios are the same size as other locations... maybe a little longer because of the building shape but the classes are the same size and structure. Everyone's so friendly - from the time you walk through the door to when you walk out of class dripping sweat. It's the same great workout, cool artwork, great music and trainers as the other studios. read more

Men attend the womens locker room- who knew?! I come here quite often for classes and I will continue to come however the front desk girls seem to have lots of attitude that is non verbal. Aside from that there was a MALE bathroom attendant I saw for the first time in the womens locker room. He was asking me if I was done with my towels. I politely said yes and gave him my towels. I didn't question it bc maybe they were low on staff(???) I was really confused but I let it go. My friend Maia freaked out hard tho; bc her breasts vagina and buttocks were fully exposed to the male attendant... I actually love the Latina cleaning lady who I normally see in the bathroom. She is kind and sweet. However I'm still not accepting that male workers are allowed in there. My friend took a video for support to reach her. Although I understand if you guys are low on staff.. just feel like only women should attend the womens room! Shouldn't they have asked a female worker to check the towels?..... The boxing class varies on instructor, I give it a 3.5-5/10 difficulty, not bad. The cardio trainer classes are very worth it 6-8/10 difficulty. I leave extremely satisfied with the workouts however the customer service isn't very good. I would appreciate it if maybe 5/10 times the desk girl would be less sassy.. Maybe smile? Not their job but it creates a vibe. I'm there to workout and leave but at least make the visit "comfortable". I also left a ring in a locker one time but it was "never found" even though the girl at the front claims "we don't do that! We have a lost & found".... That's sus bc I forgot a 700$ ring in the locker and it was never found. Why didn't y'all check before the class started in 6/7AM!? They made a whole bunch of excuses to not check in the morning bc "lockers were in use"... I spam emailed only to be dismissed and disappointed. I even drew them a diagram of which locker I left it in. Closest to the sink. It was engraved with my insta handle on it. Sounds like fucking bullshit. Overall good workouts, strange workers. It would be great if they could have a phone line. Not a fake number on google to fake call. Majority of businesses that are digital/app/web powered should have a line just in case. Mixed feelings but will continue to come in. I love the workouts and the intensity, I absolutely HATE that they focus too much on the aspect of CHANGING your body. I swear to god if I hear the word TONE one more time I will scream. Some instructors tho are better, more focused on pushing ability and celebrating strength. My favorite location, probably because of the infrared saunas! This location is massive and spans four floors with two studio options. You have the lobby and retail on the first floor, studios on the 2nd and 4th floors, and women's locker rooms/saunas on the 3rd, along with an attached drybar salon. I booked a class and a sauna session to follow and it was a heavenly day. Boxing has quickly become one of my favorite workouts, as it really is such a good release to punch it out on the bag! The saunas were the perfect culmination to the workout as well, and I felt deeply relaxed and refreshed as I came out of my 20min session. The locker room at this location is very big, making for great ease in showering and getting ready for a day in the city after working out. A class at this location followed by a sauna session will definitely become my go-to weekend routine, and there are so many great shops and restaurants in the area to peruse afterwards! read more

Uh oh... I've done it again. Found the latest and greatest trendy workout and now I'm addicted. 5 stars, but here is my issue... They follow the "Soul Cycle" structure in that I can't buy a monthly membership or pay any sort of monthly fee, I HAVE to buy class packs and reserve my spot. The cancellation is a bit strict too -- 5 pm the night before or you lose the class (although you can switch same day). That being said, 10 rounds of constant movement, motivating instructors, incredible music. I become an absolute animal when I'm there! I feel more powerful, focused, and like I'm capable of anything. Maybe that's worth the $36 per class price point? OH also, PS this studio location is also the home to a Drybar, another addiction of mine. I'm in big trouble! read more

My first class here left me confused, slightly embarrassed, a worst fear realized - and I loved it. Confused - Music can be kind of loud and can overpower the instructor, so also being new, sometimes I had no idea what what actually going on. There is a screen in the class that states the moves, so you can follow that - but sometimes I didnt even know what those words meant. Also, I found finding your assigned bag kind of confusing, so I think I took someone elses spot (my apologies). Slightly embarrassed - Sort of goes with the confused topic from above, of not being able to clearly hear the instructor over the music, so i was basically staring at people and just mimicking their movements at times. But, as I told my friend later..."all of a sudden bitches was jumpin, so I started jumping." I still have no idea why we were jumping. Worst fear realized - The lockers are the type where you set the combo. Ive ran into them before in life and they confuse the hell out of me. A personal issue, I know, but i am more of a Masterlock guy, I guess. Anyway, after class, I took a shower, I guess I forgot to reset my locker code and suddenly was locked out. So, I was basically half naked, in an unfamiliar place, all locked out. Was able to resolve the issue, thanks to a staff member who happened to arrive just in time - but still. But I loved it, I left feeling like I had a good workout and i assume with a few more classes, ill get the hang of the movements more. I like their variety of class times, from early morning to evening classes, that work with my schedule. Place is clean, bright and shiny. Kind of pricey, but also fair for what you get. I'm kind of bummed to be writing this review, but I feel like it's necessary. Today was the first day of Rumble Training at the UES location and I was disappointed with the space and the treads. I'll start by saying I love Rumble and I take Chelsea training classes often but I was very disappointed with UES training specifically and don't think I'll be coming back to this location. Chelsea is far superior. Here's a couple of notes: Studio 2 is a lot smaller than the Chelsea training location, the ceiling is also not as high so the ventialtion is not great, and they seemed to really pack in the treadmills. It seemed overcrowded and the class wasn't sold out. I was on Tred 17 and there were no "joysticks" on my treadmill. There were these strange knobs that were kind of awkward to click forward to go faster. Part of the reason I enjoy the training classes here rather than going to Barrys or Mile High is because of the treadmills. If you're not going to keep the treadmills consistent, that's not entirely fair. I would have signed up for a different treadmill or just stuck to the Chelsea location. I noticed the other treadmills seem to have joysticks. I wished the front desk would have told me my treadmill was different than what I'm used to. I felt mislead and ripped off by not getting the experience I'm used to. For the money I'm paying for class, consistency and communication is key. So moving forward, my suggestion would be to change out Tread 17 for one of the treads that we're used to. It's part of the appeal of taking class here. Also, if someone could take a look at the ventilation, it was really difficult to breathe and kind of musky. :( read more

I love rumble boxing but it's not for everybody, as below. Classes are split into half between boxing and strength training. The loud music and dark lights that kinda look tacky on advertisements make the place feel like a fun environment and encourages you to ignore others and pushes you to workout harder (the music beats are usually on point and blaring). This is a great brand they are selling for those who want to work out in an upbeat, bougie, club meets gym environment. This is not for people who want to legitimately learn boxing. Only a few trainers actively go around consistently to correct form or reteach moves and combos that are introduced in the beginning of class. But if you're okay hitting and punching a bag just for the sake of working out and melting away stress, this is for you! If you are familiar with boxing but want to punch something softer than those sandbags and feel like you're at a nonjudgmental party, this is for you!!! Your mileage may vary with each gym but Rumble gives me the best workout compared to other cardio/HIIT/strength training places I've been to (I'm not the fittest person and and have ADHD that only pertains to treadmill activities). The amenities at this beautiful facilities are wonderful! No expense was spared. The only minor critiques of the facility is that the lockers are narrow and they don't have a water fountain. They have a vertical water dispenser for water bottles but you can't drink from it directly. read more

Update to five stars. Like a lot of things when you accept it for what it is and get better at it, you enjoy it more. I've now incorporated Rumble into my fitness regimen. I love it and find it a very efficient workout. This is not a boxing class focused on technique though I find that some instructors are good about walking around and correcting form. What it is instead is a way to get some quality time against a bag in a group setting and really fun and talented instructors who complement the bag work with a full body weight workout. For a lot of group boxing classes, you have to share a bag. Not here. All the instructors are great but my favorites are JD and Spencer. Looking forward to trying out more. read more

Went there for my first class and was disappointed. I love boxing but this is more of a cardio hyped up place. Yes, you punch a bag and do challenging cardio after or before the boxing part, but the method is not coordinated and there is no real explanation of moves. The instructor screams over the music and it's hard to make out what he is saying. The room is very dark so you cannot see much of what is going on and everyone seemed to be doing something different (probably because instructions were not clear). Same with the cardio part. There is a screen up on the top of the room that shows the moves in numbers but it's not that clear to follow if you don't know what 1 or 2 or 5 is. I have another class in my 2X1 package but I'll be looking for another place to do real boxing training as I had before when I lived downtown. This is more a cardio place were you achieve sweating but that is all. read more

The studio is huge and immaculate with 4 floors including DryBar. The amenities are really nice and the showers are super clean. I loved the mix of bag and weights and our instructor played great music and kept our small class motivated the entire time! Unfortunately, the woman working the front desk was less than friendly and made the check in experience uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I brought my own wraps but being new to boxing she refused to ask anyone to help me wrap and her only solution was to buy Rumble wraps (which she also said no one would wrap for me). For a new studio with a small following on the UES she deterred me from coming back and I will take future classes at the downtown locations instead. I suggest hiring front desk staff that are excited to work for Rumble and willing to help those spending $$$ (bc this class isn't cheap) to create a better environment. read more

Great workout and vibe at Rumble. I love Noah's energy and have also taken classes with Mo, who was good. You pick where you want to start (on the bag or on the floor) and after a period of time, you switch. I like the variation and that the instructors explain what you are doing next. You can also look up at the projection to see what types of punches to throw or what kinds of exercises you will be doing on the floor. I think the variation in layout is similar to Barry's Bootcamp, which makes sense since Noah was previously at Barry's. The only thing I would say that detracts is that the instructor doesn't go around to check form on the floor so it would be better if you were familiar with the strength exercises. Had my second class with Rumble with Aliyah! I'm definitely a fan now! First let me just say that the staff are very helpful, organized, and efficient! Aliyah was literally the best! I felt so motivated and definitely had a much better experience than my first because I actually listened when the instructor says go at your own pace! Everything from the music, combinations of the punches had my in complete awe! I'm definitely a fan of Rumble Boxing! If you're a beginner like me, I HIGHLY suggest you take classes with either Paige or Aliyah! I'm going to try out other classes with different instructors, but these two ladies will definitely be my go to classes! I was punching the bag so had Aliyah came by to hold it down for a few lol. I had a decent workout but the class set up wasn't for me. i have tried various kickboxing studios and there was too much going on in this class. the class is divided into 2 groups: bags and floor. so there are two different workouts happening, in addition to the different combo sets. the two groups switched back and forth, which took time out of the workout. i didn't feel like there was enough variations in the boxing sets, just basic 4 moves which was disappointing. the bags are suspended so no kicking either. The studio was also small, pretty cramped and not enough ventilation. read more

I am hooked on Rumble!! I love boxing and have been doing a variation of different studios over the past two years and Rumble takes the cake. I love the fact that the room is split and you can truly focus on boxing and floor workouts. With other studios I've been to in the past, they throw everything at you in one shot, often times leaving me either trying to keep up or not fully focusing on the combo/set at hand. Amenities are great! I wish they had a few more showers, those saunas can be made into a few extra showers. Love love this studio. Classes are crazy expensive BUT they're great. The instructors have a ton of enthusiasm and really motivate you. Went here for my second Rumble class ever as part of the 2 for 1 new-to-Rumble deal. Definitely much more spacious and less crowded than the Chelsea location, which I loved. Front desk was friendly and efficient in getting me checked in. The amenities in the locker room were great, and the space was immaculate. In the Chelsea location, even when there were just 4 people in the locker room, there was pretty much no room to change, so I was happy there was a lot more room to breathe here. Aliyah was a great trainer and I loved her positivity and energy! I definitely love these classes, with the low light atmosphere, music that gets you pumped, and a good combo of boxing and weight/resistance training. I think it's a good amount of intensity where it's the right balance of difficulty and effort required. I will definitely be back, although perhaps in a few years when I have more money! read more

Wow this place is awesome! Rob, Ashley and Paige are the instructors I've taken thus far. They all have different techniques and kicked my ass in the best way ever! $36 a class with $3 glove rental is pricey. I did buy a five class package and saved $5. I think the more you buy the more you save. Rumble is definitely a damn good work out which will leave you jacked up the whole day. That's if you don't mind the splurge. read more

Overall this is a good gym. Like many other gyms, the quality of the class depends on the instructor. Some take time to really focus on the movements and others are pushing for just movement. Neither way is wrong, but it's important to try different instructors and find what's best for you. The two biggest drawbacks here are the fact that the business does not have a working phone number and the music is too loud. The number listed is just to an automated line that tells you to contact them via the chat for a "quicker" response and if that were the case it would be awesome, but it's not. Ultimately, there is no way to get in touch with the gym for last minute cancellations or if you are running late. On one occasion I was turned away for being a few minutes late and on another, I never got a response for a cancellation/rescheduling. In NYC things change and you aren't always 100% in control of your time, so traveling from a distance to be turned away or not being able to get in touch with someone in 2022 is a bit mind boggling to me. The experience with the volume of the music is subjective, which I understand, but not having a phone number and the inconsistencies from trainer to trainer make this gym difficult to recommend. read more

Engaging and exciting - if boxing is your thing, this is a class you don't want to miss. Instructors are excellent and facilities are modern. Shower facilities and locker rooms are also excellent. While the price is somewhat expensive, you get what you pay for. read more

Whacked in the head with a dumbbell! I was so excited for my first Rumble class, but left feeling sorely disappointed regarding many aspects of my experience. I workout several times a week in the city, primarily taking some sort of class. There is usually some sort of intro to the class, showing you how things are done, especially when it is your first time. There was no such thing when I arrived, even after explaining it was my first ever boxing class (and yes, I arrived 20 minutes early to make sure I didn't miss anything). The trainer stood on a podium the entire time literally racing through explanations and demonstrations of what to do. She never once walked around the class making sure people were following along or doing it correctly. Because of this I honestly felt like I had no idea what I was doing and got nothing out of the workout expect for some ab workouts on the floor portion (which I could have gotten for free off of Youtube). Adding insult to injury, you are so tightly packed into the space that during the first portion of the floor exercises, I was whacked in the head with a dumbbell by the gentleman next to me (obviously now experiencing pain and headaches). You honestly cannot do the exercises properly in such a minimal space... Plus, clearly it is unsafe! Sure I understand it's NYC and space is limited, but come on, basically laying on top of the person next to you is ridiculous and offensive. Save your money. There are much better workouts out there. read more
