I was in the area with my friend and we decided to stop by at the famous Rumble Fish that my other friend was talking about for months. We walked in and we got seated by a big group of people who were little loud. But whatever. We were hungry and tired so we just wanted to eat. We ordered the 2 item platter and spicy tuna roll to share. Then my friend thought maybe we should order another roll like something different. So we asked the waitress if we could look at the menu once more. She said ok but looked irritated. She brought us the menu like 10 mins later and almost threw it on the table. Same thing happened when she brought us the food. She just put the food and walked away even though my friend was asking her about the menu. I looked over the waitress and she was looking all smiley and happy at the other table. It got me thinking, maybe we bothered her or something?? A few minutes later, she brought us the spicy tuna roll. So my friend stopped her and asked about the other rolls. She still looked bothered and said "so you want it or not?" At that point I felt uncomfortable. But my friend wanted to try the baked roll with scallop on top, so she ordered it without fish roe. I just felt really weird. Clearly this girl wasn't having a bad day - kept looking over her at the other table, she looked all nice and smiley. She seemed to speak English just as fine as I am - she was Hispanic, I guess. We didn't ask her too much questions - all we asked were about the rolls, like 3 questions. And my friend asked her to refil her tea once - it took a while until other waitress came by and refil it. Other waitresses asked if everything was okay, if we needed anything and refil the water and tea. They seemed nicer. Anyway, like 20 mins later, I asked our waitress that if our roll was still coming. She said that the roll we ordered takes a long time. Turns out the roll takes like 15 mins, and if we knew that we wouldn't have ordered it. We were tired and still had to drive over to Hwy 17, and didn't really want to sit at the restaurant doing nothing but waiting. Shortly after she brought us the roll, but it had fish roe on top. My friend pointed that out, she said "you didn't say you don't want any tobico". Wait, I heard my friend saying 'no fish roe'. But at that point we just wanted to get the h*** out of there. This waitress was nice to other people BUT us. We didn't want to sit there for another half an hour to wait for some roll , so we just ate it.
But I noticed somthing later. This waitress came by our table if our food is fine and we need anything else. She seemed nicer than before. I though oh, maybe she was just in a bad mood a while ago. But then I saw a lady at the cashier who clearly was a manager or maybe the owner. It doesn't take much to figure whats going on in the restaurant, right? Then the waitress kept coming by and refil more tea or water, or asking us if we need anything - just so obvious.
BTW, food was very decent. We ordered salmon teriyaki and tempura for our two item platter. Salmon was cooked nicely, the sauce was very tasty and tempura was very good. Spicy tuna roll was really nice too. I liked cucumbers in the roll. Also salad dressing was superb. I wanted to ask what it was but didn't really get a chance. It was sweet and nutty - maybe sesame seed oil?? I'd give 4 stars just for food. Overall price seemed a bit expensive, but not unreasonable.
I'd love to go back to the restaurant to try other rolls, but honestly my first experience was just horrible that I'd rather try other new place if I'm in the area again. read more
