We are in from out of town and decided to come bring our dogs to run around. Unfortunately they only large dog area was nothing but mud and dirt, no grass at all. Sorry but I don't need my dog to be covered in mud and leave it all over the inside of my car or seat covers. The other dog park (I assume for small dogs was chained off because I guess it's new grass planted in there? There is a side for Big and small dogs. But really if dogs are peeing and pooping on wet dirt and everyone's walking in it including dogs that's gross. So used to pros with lush green grass. We weren't there for long. I took my small dog on a walk on some trails. They do provide doggie bags and poop-cans to dispose of poop. The small dog area was nice looking with grass and all. Hoping they plant grass on the muddy side otherwise people won't want to bring dogs here. read more

There are only a handful of state and county parks that have a dedicated space for our four-legged friends to run off the leash, and this is one of them. The double-gated entrance is a great safety feature for entering and exiting the fenced doggie area. You can let your pooch socialize or have a great game of fetch here. The facility itself would make this a great park, though the aggressive dogs and inattentive owners sitting on their phones makes it hard to enjoy. As soon as we got to the gate nearly every dog ambushed the entrance making it near impossible to get in. All the dogs crowded my obviously intimidated 55 LB, 7 month husky and in this whole process not a single owner looked up from their phone. For the 5 minutes we spent there before my dog got attacked, he was having to defend himself from a handful of large aggressive dogs who kept coming at him while he was trying to play with the few friendly dogs. Even while he was getting attacked I had to yell for the man to get his dog as I was trying to pull him off of mine. I've been taking my dog to dog parks almost daily since he was 4 months and never have had an experience like this. Will never come here again and do not recommend it to anyone. read more

This is a great park right near my office. I'm out here lunchtimes on "bring your dog to work" day. It's smaller than Barker's Field but it's nice. Very secure, double gate and a small dog and big dog area. It tends to get VERY muddy if there's been any kind of rain any time within the last week, so be warned. Many times I've been there people aren't but so good at picking up after their dogs. I know sometimes you're chatting or looking at the cute puppy so you don't see when your dog poops. Perhaps we can "pay it forward" and clean up a little extra when we notice it, make it a community clean. read more

This is a really well kept and busy dog park. Our dog loves this place. There is almost always another dog or 20 for her to play with here. They even have a special area for smaller dogs. They rotate two large fenced in areas so the grass is always nice. Benches are spread around the edges and they just put in a few shade areas in the corners. read more

Very disappointing! We moved from DC and were excited to have a park so close by BUT we went on both a Sunday and Monday and were told that other dogs would attack mine each time. Which was very upsetting and people thought it was ok! So we will keep making the almost 30 min drive to Short Pump where dogs (and Dog parents know) not to attack! read more

Usually, Ruff House Park is fairly clean and fun for my dogs. This experience, not so. A group of unsupervised young boys using the dog area for ball practice, owners not picking up after their dogs, and owners allowing their clearly unsocialized dogs to continually snap at others. I usually like to bring my dogs here but will probably stick to the nature trails with them from now on. read more

Pleasant-enough and quite large fenced-in fields for several sizes of dogs. It's part of the bigger, nicer park, so there's plenty for the two-legged beings to do while the one who drew the short straw chaperones the four-legged visitors. A bit muddy, though. If your dog tends to jump, you'll want to wear an apron or teflon jeans. read more

Nice park. Lots of seating, and even tho we visited on a cold day there were still tons of dogs to play with. I love all the signage and the push to get more volunteers. Dog parks are volunteer based and we all should help out our community to make them the best. Glad we found this park while visited. read more

Ruff House is a good Dog Park for big and small dogs alike. I have come here three times with my friend and his small pup, who is always extremely excited to be here from the second we drive up. The grass is decently well kept (a few bare patches here and there), there are almost always other dogs around, and everything is fenced in so that you can unleash and just have fun. If your dog is like ours, thinks he's a human and is afraid of other dogs, this place might scare him and have him tucking his tail between his legs. But all in all, places like these make it more fun to own a pet. read more

My mother and I visited this park today for the first time. My mom just got a dog (chihuahua/jack russel mix) and wanted to see if she was already socialized. I currently live in Texas with my dog (jack russel/Schauzer mix) and we visit dog parks every other day. He is a smaller dog, but he always plays with bigger dogs since they all seem to play well. When we went today, I placed my dog in the 'regular' dog park and there were three dogs that automatically ganged up on him and started biting his neck. None of the dog owners came over to control their dogs and they blamed it on my dog being 'too small'. These dogs were too aggressive and did not only show aggressiveness towards my dog, but also other dogs at the dog park. Also, I understand that the water supply is cut off during the winter. While I understand that the pipes might 'freeze', water should be available for all dogs at the dog park at all times of the year. The 'water bowl' in the small dog park was a large bucket in which the dogs could not even stick their heads into to drink. In the future, I would suggest the owners of the dog park to survey the dogs in the dog park and their behavior. I would hate for an unfortunate event to occur. I would also suggest available water and water bowls that are suitable for all dog types. We will not be returning to this dog park. I would suggest going to another one in which all dogs may play together, without any aggressive dogs. read more

I take my sheltie here and he acts like he doesn't know me as soon as we hop out of the car because he is so excited about the park. It's a well-maintained, fenced in area. Two long runs (which is great when you have a dog who loves fetch) and one small run for small dogs. Unlike some of the other dog parks in Richmond, this one is grass/dirt as opposed to gravel or wood chips. read more

Great dog park. Well maintained and can get pretty busy on the weekends. Mostly, people are great with making sure their dogs behave, but occasionally it can get out of control. The location is convenient because they have trails at Rockwood Park. Separate space for big/little dogs. read more

This dog park is awful! We like to be able to bring our dog to a park where he can run around, meet other dogs, and get some exercise. This park is small and the dogs here aren't all friendly. There was more than one dog running around and barking at other dogs. There are no bags provided (though there are scoopers) so people are not consistently picking up after their pets. Our dog was able to run in the small space provided but was antagonized by other dogs the entire time. Needless to say, we will not be returning. read more

Big dog park with two enclosures. Was excited to go for the first time the other day. I have two labs and a pitbull. All rescues. Our pitbull is the newest and has not been socialized with other dogs besides our own. We wanted to keep her on a leash at first so she could walk around and get comfortable. I know she would never start anything but we did not know how she would act if another dog started something. We were greeted by a bunch of "regulars" who said "are we new?" and proceeded to tell us that having the dog on the leah makes the other dogs uncomfortable. What is she the dog whisper? I'm doing the responsible thing unlike so many owners at this park. There were a few aggressive dogs and no owners were to be found. And not to mention you can't have kids under 10 in the park but you CAN smoke cigarettes, like these old witches were. Real classy. Also not much shade especially since the "regulars" take up all the room under the two tarps they have. read more
