My mom used to go to Rudy's regularly. They knew her by name. I hadn't been to Rudy's for years as I moved out of the area. I was reminded about Rudy's by my son who gets a lot of meat here for smoking in his smoker. I've been by twice and the first time was just so so. My problem was that I didn't order ahead.! The great thing about this place is they are busy! It's a popular place! There are guys in the back butchering and cutting up meat! It is pretty cool to watch! This is truly a homey place and I can see why my mom visited for her meat needs and she ordered ahead! When you walk in, you can tell there are a lot of regulars. People take numbers, get their meats, have conversations. A nice and welcoming vibe. I ordered an Easter Ham from David. He was great in explaining the difference between bone in, boneless and cooking differences. I did a boneless sliced ham and it was perfect for my own glaze. Everyone enjoyed and the ham itself was good. Not salty or fatty. I will definitely be back and if there is something specific I want, I will call ahead. Rudy's is the butcher that I've been going to since I was a kid. Not much has changed! They still have that warm, inviting atmosphere. That wonderful smell of something good and homemade in the air. They still do almost everything in house, right there in front of you. And the employees are still really pleasant to deal with. If you want quality, you go to Rudy's. My favorite place to get fresh Italian sausage made in house. This is where I get baby back ribs and bone-in chicken breast for my grill outs and I also love to serve their perogies as a side. They can order special cuts of meat from their supplier for you.. like whole pork belly, for example. I was thrilled to find fresh lamb chops here, they saved me the trip to west end market to get them! Fabulous marinated overnight in Italian dressing and yogurt mixed with turmeric, grilled with rosemary and enjoyed hot off the grill! Make sure that yummy lamb fat is a bit charred. My last Cleveland Yelp until I return to the great state of Ohio. Try this recipe, and try their Italian hots. Side note.. don't boil sausages. (This goes for breakfast sausages too) Grill or put them on a pan on medium low heat and patiently wait for it to get to full and proper temperature so that none of the good seasonings inside is lost to water. Sorry I kept things to myself sometimes. I selfishly did so with this place. This was my quarantine hotspot when I was learning how to throw down in the kitchen. Now that I am gone, I bequeath this secret to you. That, and the fact that I only like their blackberry fry pies, and that you should nuke it for ten seconds...then hide in a corner where you don't have to share it, and don't settle for strawberry or raspberry, it's just blackberry or bust. read more

Last week I had to make homemade meatballs and sauce two days apart - they were just so fresh and delicious because of this mans meats! The week before I made the best Mississippi roast ever...ever. And their chicken sausage links in their freezer...so delish. Shop anywhere else and I can't vouch for the freshness of their meats - are they a bargain no - but QUALITY is not always cheap - that's a bargain...bargains not so delicious. Rudy's is the real deal. Clean, nicely merchandosed frozen section and meat case. What I thought was cute was when I asked for four, 6 oz filets the lady behind the counter turned around to one of the butchers in the back, relayed my order, and out came just what I asked for. I also picked up some ground chuck. I could have bought way more. Their selection is fantastic. And I agree with other Yelpers....friendly staff. On Saturday Sept. 4, out of town family members went to Rudy's on my recommendation. The woman that waited on them around 3:00 pm was snippy and a bit rude about them buying too much and nearly wiping them out on a holiday weekend. Seriously, 2 hours till closing and closed on Sunday and Monday? Would think they wouldn't want anything left over. Been buying meat there for years, but not sure I'll be back. They live up to their name QUALITY MEATS. I love that if I only want one pork steak, I can buy only one instead if prepackaged ones and I can pick the one I want. I save a lot of money shopping there and get my meat fresh instead of pre frozen. read more

The fully cooked breaded chicken breasts are unreal. All you need to do is turn on the oven and throw those bastards in! Maybe even throw some BBQ sauce on when they come out! I came here at the suggestion of a co-worker, and he did not steer me wrong. As with all my butcher shop reviews: a warning - I was raised eating Hungarian foods Yummy stuff, but we eat the entire animal. Don't judge me. ;) They have an incredible selection of homemade sausages. My favorite as of today is the "Poboys". A garlicky yummy sausage. Mouth watering. Their hurka (rice ring) and blood sausage are both amazing. Excellent texture and taste. I'm not certain which I favor more. I always order one of each. I'm told by the same friend, that their rib roast is excellent. Now, I'm a huge fan of Foster's Meats at the West Side Market. I'll see who gets the business this Christmas. read more

My mom and I ordered several pounds of meat to be picked up including chicken tenders. When I went to freeze the tenders, I could tell they had just cut up chicken breasts - they were NOT the actual tenders. I've always been happy with Rudy's meats, but this was a big disappointment. Only two stars for this visit. Recommend getting tenders from the case instead of ordering in advance to make sure you get what you want. read more

Rudy's is a friendly neighborhood meat shop, so I very much like that. I go in here on occasion to pick meats up, if that's all I'm looking for. (Usually, I like to be a one-stop shopper.) Good range of cuts of beef, pork, chicken. If you're looking for lamb or any other meats, you won't find it here. I only give 3 stars because this is all they offer, but they do offer quality as mentioned in their name :). I also don't give them a full-blown 5 stars because they don't have cuts of beef like tri-tip, flat iron, or skirt steak. For a meat shop, I think they should have these. Other than that, if you're just looking for standard meats, you'll find them here. Also, be prepared and bring cash, as they do not accept credit cards or cards of any kind...they're really old school. I ended up having to WRITE A CHECK to pay because I didn't have cash on me. Recently started purchasing meats from Rudy's. Every thing from baby back ribs to steak burgers and sirloin steak has been wonderful. However I need to tell you that the ready made meatloaf is excellent! Just like Mom's. I have tried a lot of recipes but never got the taste and texture of Mom's. Rudy got it right! You can cut the loaf and it stays together. There is very little fat in the pan and the whole loaf comes out of the pan in one piece! My husband and I almost finished it by ourselves. I am through trying to make meatloaf ( unless Rudy is giving a class). This will be a staple in my freezer. read more

I decided to try this store based on the raving reviews. Yesterday, I purchased 6 filet mignon steaks. When I opened the packages, two of them were brown on the bottom. Obviously not freshly cut. I grilled all of them that evening. They were tender but average in taste. I purchased some from Giant Eagle the week before at a lower price that were equivalent. I expected more from a butcher. I grew up on Rudy's and have loved them since I was a child. I am saddened to say that I live in Baltimore now and can't enjoy their sausages, I have been searching high and low for the quality I grew up with. Nothing comes even close (and I work for a leading Deli). I am happy to say though I will be in the area soon so I will be getting my fill :) . I love bringing a piece of home with me every time I do people LOVE what I bring back with me.... One suggestion I do have is PLEASE consider a mail order option and a website.
