I also tried nussecken (2.20 euro) for the first time for dessert and it was delicious! It's nutty and chocolatey with a soft crust. My friend who lives in Berlin got 4 peaches and a cucumber for 1.50 euro and a meter of fabric for 2 euro. She comes here every week for groceries. The prices are fantastic here!

It's no secret that I love me a good Farmer's Market. This one is no exception…read more There are tons and tons of things to buy; my favourite is the produce stands. Compared to local shops, the fresh fruits and vegetables are much cheaper, and sometimes even better quality. A recent trip yielded avocados, pumpkin, and arugula, and that was a show of restraint. There's so much more to be had, including meats and cheeses, snacks from food stands, practical household items, fabrics and craft-y things, clothing and jewelry, and more. Check it! The one disadvantage is the tight quarters. I'm used to markets with rows and rows and plenty of space, and this one is just along the sidewalk. The side up against the water is particularly crowded, with stalls on either side, making it a bit of an annoyance to walk through all the people. The flow of the crowd is generally smooth, albeit slow-going, but every once in awhile you'll find the stallers, who stand directly in front of what you're interested in and spend five minutes discussing the pros and cons of buying it. If you know what you want to get, this is a perfect place to go. However, if you're looking for a leisurely experience spent strolling up and down the market, go somewhere else.

I stuffed myself silly on cheese, freshly squeezed juices, and cuisine from every point between Bavaria to Istanbul. Also, there is a darling park just across a bike lane so if you want to eat picnic style you have only to bring a blanket!

It's a great way to put your finger on the pulse of the people who live and work in Berlin. We were mixing with the elderly, young hipsters, and cute neighborhood kids. This market doesn't cater to tourists, which is most refreshing, but we still were welcomed by the folks selling their wares. This is a food market first and foremost. There were many stands featuring fresh produce and fruit, and others with meat, cheeses, bulk spices, eggs, and baked goods. If you're looking for a market with tons of snacks, this place will fit the bill! I noticed a lot of international cuisine, all cooked on the fly by people of the said nationality. One of my favorite things I ate here was the vegetarian gözleme, a traditional savory Turkish flatbread stuffed with spinach. Other culinary highlights included a fresh grilled knoblauchwurst sausage 2.50 Euros) and the freshest orange juice ever (squeezed to order). Rounding out the offerings were some gorgeous flower stands and a couple of booths selling handmade soaps and bath products. Prices were cheap and the market friendly. It was very crowded, I was bumping into people left and right, but it was also the weekend so that should be expected.
