It's a great way to put your finger on the pulse of the people who live and work in Berlin. We were mixing with the elderly, young hipsters, and cute neighborhood kids.
This market doesn't cater to tourists, which is most refreshing, but we still were welcomed by the folks selling their wares. This is a food market first and foremost. There were many stands featuring fresh produce and fruit, and others with meat, cheeses, bulk spices, eggs, and baked goods. If you're looking for a market with tons of snacks, this place will fit the bill!
I noticed a lot of international cuisine, all cooked on the fly by people of the said nationality. One of my favorite things I ate here was the vegetarian gözleme, a traditional savory Turkish flatbread stuffed with spinach. Other culinary highlights included a fresh grilled knoblauchwurst sausage 2.50 Euros) and the freshest orange juice ever (squeezed to order).
Rounding out the offerings were some gorgeous flower stands and a couple of booths selling handmade soaps and bath products. Prices were cheap and the market friendly. It was very crowded, I was bumping into people left and right, but it was also the weekend so that should be expected.
