I also tried nussecken (2.20 euro) for the first time for dessert and it was delicious! It's nutty and chocolatey with a soft crust. Compared to local shops, the fresh fruits and vegetables are much cheaper, and sometimes even better quality. A recent trip yielded avocados, pumpkin, and arugula, and that was a show of restraint. There's so much more to be had, including meats and cheeses, snacks from food stands, practical household items, fabrics and craft-y things, clothing and jewelry, and more. Check it! The one disadvantage is the tight quarters. I'm used to markets with rows and rows and plenty of space, and this one is just along the sidewalk. The side up against the water is particularly crowded, with stalls on either side, making it a bit of an annoyance to walk through all the people. The flow of the crowd is generally smooth, albeit slow-going, but every once in awhile you'll find the stallers, who stand directly in front of what you're interested in and spend five minutes discussing the pros and cons of buying it. If you know what you want to get, this is a perfect place to go. However, if you're looking for a leisurely experience spent strolling up and down the market, go somewhere else.

Probably because of this, I didn't see any christmas tree inside, but they did decorated a bit. The market itself wasn't so big, also not so many stands as I expected, but there were some interesting stands that wroth to check out. I also tried some food that. I like the Currywurst and Glühwein I got. Although it wasn't so big, it got quite nice neighborhood, people were really friendly here, nice to walk around here. If you are looking for a German traditional kind of christmas market to visit, then this isn't the place for that. If you just like to hang out with friends, have some Glühwein, why not.

It's a great way to put your finger on the pulse of the people who live and work in Berlin. We were mixing with the elderly, young hipsters, and cute neighborhood kids. This market doesn't cater to tourists, which is most refreshing, but we still were welcomed by the folks selling their wares. This is a food market first and foremost. There were many stands featuring fresh produce and fruit, and others with meat, cheeses, bulk spices, eggs, and baked goods. If you're looking for a market with tons of snacks, this place will fit the bill! I noticed a lot of international cuisine, all cooked on the fly by people of the said nationality. One of my favorite things I ate here was the vegetarian gözleme, a traditional savory Turkish flatbread stuffed with spinach. Other culinary highlights included a fresh grilled knoblauchwurst sausage 2.50 Euros) and the freshest orange juice ever (squeezed to order). Rounding out the offerings were some gorgeous flower stands and a couple of booths selling handmade soaps and bath products. Prices were cheap and the market friendly. It was very crowded, I was bumping into people left and right, but it was also the weekend so that should be expected.

Other than a woman selling Turkish sweets it was mainly cloths, art and nick nacks. However, there were a number of prepared food stalls and probably want you want to come here for instead of the produce. Everything from fish, falafel, Turkish things, curry wursts, and other assorted things. I had my first curry wurst here. I looked for the longest line and just got in the end of it. I got the basic one with pomes and Ketchup. It was fine, but didn't rock my world. I understand this is a city street food item, but I think you need to grow up with them or have the late night cravings to really appreciate them. ON the other hand, I also had my first Gozelme here (needs an umlat over the "O"). Again, I found the food stall with the longest line and tried what they had. This was almost my undoing as I got their last spinach and cheese one. It was heaven! Spicy, and tasy. This was serious jet lag/hang over next day type snack for me. Can't wait to try them at other places or maybe I'll just come back to Hackescher to wait in line to get one here again.

The decidedly gritty vibe suits the neighborhood and the market well. The open space is jam-packed with different food booths that serve everything from Chinese food to healthy cookies to fresh seafood to local currywurst sausages. Whatever you're hungry for, you'll likely find it here. We visited on a busy Saturday afternoon when the place was packed with locals. There were some tourists of course, but this didn't feel like a destination that catered to out-of-towners. We ended up making two booth stops: the first for coffee and a freshly baked oatmeal cookie, and then for a sausage and local beer. I enjoyed my espresso and cookie, and it was a great treat to start the day. Hubby loved the currywurst stand! It is worth noting the sausage place was packed with friendly locals, all eager to strike up conversations in broken English. We even asked a nice couple which beer we should get and took their recommendation (it was delicious). Always chat up the local patrons if they are willing to talk to you. The food here looked high quality, was cheap, and had a nice assortment. Definitely worth a stop if you're interested in putting together your own foodie tour of Berlin.
