    mulled wine and cider

Cute spot to hang out and drink wine with friends! They have an outdoor seating area (there are lots of gnats though, so just be aware of that, and no heaters outside). Thought the prices were a little steep ($12 for a small glass), though the winter specials -- mulled wine and the cider (canned) -- were only $6 each. Good service, clean bathroom, but really small space indoors. Loved the string lights that turned out when it got darker! Very peaceful and not crowded at all, so good if you're looking for somewhere quieter to talk.

Such a hidden gem!!! As we were waiting to be seated for brunch at Plow, we walked around this Quaint little neighborhood. Out in front they had a sandwich board sign that said "Ruby's All Natural Wines." I favorite organic wines with no sulfates added, so their sign intrigued me. We decided to go in and ask some questions to see what they had. To my surprise they had an array of different wines from around the world!! On the left side where all their whites and roses, and on the right were all the Reds! They even had a section on the back left-hand corner for bubbly! You can buy a glass of any open wine they had, or A bottle and take it to go or pay a $10 corking fee and drink on their little rustic outdoor patio. After brunch we came back to check out what ones they had and the lady behind the counter was incredibly helpful and sweet! She was very bubbly and outgoing and made us feel very welcomed! Especially since we weren't too sure what type of white wine we wanted to drink. She had rosé white blend that I wanted to try, but sadly she didn't have one shield. In her refrigerator, however if she found one last bottle of Sauvignon Blanc blend. I love Sauvignon Blanc's and I said we would take the bottle. LOL that Sauvignon Blanc was the best Sauvignon Blanc I've had in a long since I've been to Napa! I loved their outdoor seating area, I just wish I brought a jacket because the beautiful sunshine hid behind some clouds and I got cold. I definitely want to go back there and try that other bottle! Note: there's no drinking allowed inside the wine shop itself, but you can drink out on their patio, so bring a jacket with SF weather! Hee

Wine that's turned to vinegar. Separation at the top and brown color.

They are a great retailer, very knowledgeable of wines old world and new. They have a fantastic selection. My issue is with their auction business, which I think they have very little they can do about it as they are taking the word of the sellers that the bottles have been properly cellared. Multiple Aubert Chardonnays (2014-2017) bottlings, top end, have been clearly past their prime despite being in the start of the prime drinking window, and one bottle that was very tired. So it seems to be less of the "rare bad bottle" problem and more of a systemic issue with some of their sellers. I'll change this review if other such start-of-the-prime-drinking-window bottles through K&L prove to show they are drinking well and increase the ratio of good to bad items. I have a lot more of these bottles to test. Edit: may 2026 - a few more Aubert Chardonnay's going back to a 2018 Eastside were opened and we're all spectacular, crisp and peaked. Our stats are much better now on the aging of chards through the auction. Changing to 5 stars.

Show up mid week and mid day and the staff will spend great time with you talking up vino. So if you are in need of a wine fix then K&L is the spot to hit. Cheers

Absolutely no excuse for such behavior. Not to mention a tiny, tiny, tiny pour of wine for $18. I stayed and did some work for about a half an hour. As I was about to leave, an older couple walked in he couldn't have been nicer. Sweet as pie. Friendly, welcoming, conversational. Made a suggestion when they asked for advice. The complete opposite of how he treated me. There's no way I did anything to warrant such behavior from him. I don't know what his issue was but it was unacceptable. Hey guys? Just a tip. In this economy when you're charging people absurd amounts of money for a Dixie cup of average wine - maybe not a good idea to treat customers like they're bothering you. They put more effort into groceries than most - there's a variety of brands and quality for the products they do stock(sauces, snacks, bread, kitchen staples) - and often the prices are better than the grocery across 3rd street. There's even a little bit of basic produce (onions, lemons). Household products (otc medication, toilet paper and the like) can be a little pricey. The booze is priced fairly. There's an impressive variety of liquor, wine, sake, beer (loads of IPAs), and even a few sour beers. The staff is always friendly, very chipper and energetic. Besides what I mentioned, I noticed that there was a variety of tobacco products behind the counter. The store is sandwiched between a breakfast place and a corner bar so their variety of products make sense. There are a number of businesses across the street (framing and furniture, I believe) as well as restaurants scattered around the area. Normally, this store type would rate a four for me but I was happily surprised with my interaction with the cashier who was very laid back and cordial. After wishing him a nice weekend, he surprisingly replied with enthusiasm, "You too!". When I'm able to leave a business with a smile and a warm heart, the fifth star is earned in my book.
