A really cute spot in Potrero hill with a small outdoor area to sit and drink. They sell natural wines by the bottle and also by glasses for you to taste. The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable, explaining different natural wines and letting us try different ones. Cute spot to hang out and drink wine with friends! They have an outdoor seating area (there are lots of gnats though, so just be aware of that, and no heaters outside). Thought the prices were a little steep ($12 for a small glass), though the winter specials -- mulled wine and the cider (canned) -- were only $6 each. Good service, clean bathroom, but really small space indoors. Loved the string lights that turned out when it got darker! Very peaceful and not crowded at all, so good if you're looking for somewhere quieter to talk. read more

Disclaimer: I am a teetotaler. Even so, Ruby Wine is one of my favorite vibes in the city. They have an extensive natural wine selection and knowledgeable staff who give excellent recommendations. Wines available by the glass or bottle. Also, they have the best mineral water! There is limited indoor seating, but we scored a window seat on my recent visit. Really cool local spot in Potrero hill. We were next door for a bite to eat and was drawn to the dj playing a set. A solid place to grab a drink in Potrero! Definitely not a cheap place but there are dive bars aplenty in PH if cost effective beverages are what you're looking for. It's great to sit in the parklet with friends and a good bottle of wine. Just make sure to bring layers since it gets pretty windy/chilly especially late in the afternoon. They've got a ton of natural wines to choose from inside to keep you there for some time. I do wish there were snacks as well but that's irrelevant to this rating. Overall it's a good spot to check out, especially when the store next door is open and you can buy food from them and enjoy it in the parklet! 4 stars instead of 5 because I've had pretty inconsistent customer service - there have been moments with the staff seeming impatient/unhelpful with suggestions and moments where they've suggested bottles $10+ above the requested price point (which is kind of frustrating considering they have so many wines that fall in such a wide range of prices). read more

Such a hidden gem!!! As we were waiting to be seated for brunch at Plow, we walked around this Quaint little neighborhood. Out in front they had a sandwich board sign that said "Ruby's All Natural Wines." I favorite organic wines with no sulfates added, so their sign intrigued me. We decided to go in and ask some questions to see what they had. To my surprise they had an array of different wines from around the world!! On the left side where all their whites and roses, and on the right were all the Reds! They even had a section on the back left-hand corner for bubbly! You can buy a glass of any open wine they had, or A bottle and take it to go or pay a $10 corking fee and drink on their little rustic outdoor patio. After brunch we came back to check out what ones they had and the lady behind the counter was incredibly helpful and sweet! She was very bubbly and outgoing and made us feel very welcomed! Especially since we weren't too sure what type of white wine we wanted to drink. She had rosé white blend that I wanted to try, but sadly she didn't have one shield. In her refrigerator, however if she found one last bottle of Sauvignon Blanc blend. I love Sauvignon Blanc's and I said we would take the bottle. LOL that Sauvignon Blanc was the best Sauvignon Blanc I've had in a long since I've been to Napa! I loved their outdoor seating area, I just wish I brought a jacket because the beautiful sunshine hid behind some clouds and I got cold. I definitely want to go back there and try that other bottle! Ruby Wine is a nice place to sit outside and have a few glasses with your friends. My experience was overshadowed by the person at the counter. I grabbed a Glou Glou wine and asked if this was a good Glou Glou wine. They asked me to speak normal words, and I pointed to the label, indicating Glou Glou is literally a type of wine, and it is on the label. They kept pushing for what I wanted, like a parent asking their children to better describe their emotions. I described what was literally in my hands, a light red wine. They replied, "OK, that is what I was looking for." They said the wine we selected was OK, and they could find us something better, but then asked how much do we want to pay. "Not a lot", we said... Anyway, they did end up selecting a nice chilled red after scavenging for 49 seconds in the fridge. Moral of the story is don't ask questions, just buy what you want. Or get the glass of wine since there's only one option for each type. read more

Stopped by here to get a "to go" glass and brought it home. Unfortunately the white wine I was served had completely turned to vinegar and was brown. There was also a separation at the top as shown in picture. Shouldn't have even tried it, clearly bad from the sight. I called to ask to check the bottle because it appears to have turned and the owner and 2 employees said theirs is clear and tastes how it should. Not sure what happened here but it tastes like vinegar and is a deep brown and most definitely is not clear. Unfortunate experience. The red was better and the place is cute. Finally made it here after living around the corner for years and noticing the crowds on a daily basis. They have a nice parklet in front. Otherwise I don't understand the attraction. Their wine selection by the glass is pretty minimal considering this is a wine store: 1 white, 1 orange, 1 sparkling rose, 2 reds. We got 2 glasses of the white without tasting first, what a mistake. It was almost undrinkable. I went back to make sure we got the correct wine. It looked more orange than white, a very off color for white. He assured me it was their white. The service was not very friendly either. We won't be back. read more

What a cute little wine shop! The reviews on Yelp scared me because I don't like dealing with mean people when I'm trying to have some wines, but I didn't really experience the negative things people on Yelp did. My first time here, the man at the front didnt say much and wasn't overly enthusiastic but that's ok. I didn't find it rude. I've also gotten a bottle from here since Shelter In Place. It was a little confusing at first about who could pick up wine. They had a sign outside saying wine club members only but then someone inside told us anyone could pick it up. We called ahead and asked if they had a certain bottle and when we went to go pick it up they were surprised we didn't have an appointment. But I was confused because no one told us about an appointment over the phone? So it may not be the best place for excellent customer service but the vibe is cute, and during this time I'd love to be able to support small businesses the best I can. read more

The service here is truly pretentious and not welcoming, as many other Yelpers have stated. I was a wine club member for a year, and recently ended my subscription as I'm moving out of San Francisco. I went to Ruby Wine last week to enjoy the wine bar one last time and purchased a bottle. I kindly asked them to waive the corkage fee (of their own wine, mind you) since it's waived for wine club members, explaining that I only cancelled a month or two ago due to relocation. The gentleman behind the bar condescendingly told me that it's a "you give us money, so we help you" situation. Well, I have been giving them money to the wine club for a year! The bartender then looked over without even looking at me and said he'll be with me in a minute. He then got back to his conversation. This is the worst wine shop I have ever been to. Spent 48$ on a bottle of wine that was suggested by the wine person in charge for a party with friends. It tasted like apple cider that went bad. I liked this place. Tiny place, very intimate. Not many seating options and it does not hold many people. You might have to stand by the small bar or in a good sunny warm day, the sidewalk is lovely. The Staff was very knowledgeable. Friendly with a hint of snobby. Limited selection of wines. Price is very good. At first judgment of the place, it looked snobbish so I initially avoided it for the longest time, until my neighbor next door raved about it. I took my chances and took my friend (who is from France) here to grab a glass. We sat down and noticed no menu. We talked to one of the two gentlemen working there. He said have a seat and someone will be there to help you shortly. My friend and I chatted for some time and no one came so we went up to the bar. We were greeted by another gentleman behind the bar who was quite short with us and rude. We saw open seating, bottles of wine on either wall, no menu and a fridge. We weren't sure how it worked. We asked how it worked and he impatiently said "it's a wine bar." They weren't busy either, maybe four other customers, so I felt like he could have elaborated a bit. Then, we asked for some reds from some open bottles. There was only one red to try and another pinot noir. My friend and I both were not pleased with the taste of either and were surprised of only one glass option. Although there were plenty of bottles to purchase, it would be too much for the two of us that night. We decided to take our business elsewhere. My absolute favorite spot to grab wine or grab a glass and chill, even in the midst of a pandemic. The atmosphere is very intimate so don't come with a large group! The street is lit up at night, so it has a festive winter vibe that's perfect for any night of the week. They also built outdoor seating that still feels cozy in this chilly weather. The staff are really friendly and have a lot of good recommendations if you ask! My personal favorite has been the natural white wines as they pair well with everything. Quaint and romantic - snobby service place I've been dying to go to but my boyfriend prefers beer. Finally I get the chance and as I walk in there was a dj which was pretty cool because the music was a mix of classic upbeat tunes. The atmosphere is quaint and romantic. However the service and the bartender ruined it for my friend and I. He was rude, condescending and had absolutely no manners. No need to get in to it. The deal here: you can order wines by the glass, you can do a tasting flight on Fridays, and you can open a bottle plus a corkage fee to enjoy in the store. Pretentious, Pretentious My husband and I just stopped by because we were out of wine and wanted a couple of bottles for a Saturday night at home. First, the place is so dark I could barely read the labels on the bottles. I asked for local wines and they just had very few options - I guess they don't support local wineries. Through the darkness I spotted 2 Pinot Noirs, I couldn't tell where they were from or the price, so I just grabbed them and went to the counter to pay for them. While I stood there, the salesperson/bartender was too busy speaking to other people that he didn't even acknowledge that I was there. I patiently waited. While waiting I read on their board they charge $10 corkage fee if you buy a bottle and drink it in there!, what??? It's your own freaking wine. I kept waiting and the guy wouldn't even make eye contact, so I left the two bottles on the counter and left. We are wine club members of three wineries. We consume good and a lot of wine. It's very rare to find a wine place here in the Bay where you are ignored when you want to buy their wine. If you wonder where could there be such a place, this is the place. With so many wine purchasing options in the city and with the wine country so close, we are absolutely, definitely never coming back to this pretentious place. Bye Felecia! read more

Please save yourself some time and stress by avoiding this place! My husband and I have recently been on a Tempranillo wine binge after trying a couple types from Bellota and a few other restaurants, including some in Maui. We wanted a bottle of Tempranillo for the night and ended up here. We ended up with a wine from Spain that was recommended by a male employee who described it as " smooth and fruity". So we paid for the bottle and went on our merry way. Poured ourselves a glass of wine first thing after getting home and took our first sip.... most disgusting wine ever! Tasted spoiled, sour, and cheap. Tasted like those cheap wines I settled for when I was underage and didn't know any better. Nothing exotic or smooth about this wine. This was a Tempranillo.... we ended up calling them to ask if this is how the wine was suppose to taste. He said, "ya smooth and fruity". He did let us know to let it sit out for a couple more days and to try it again and if we weren't happy they could try to maybe make an exchange even though they do not usually allow that. One star for customer service I guess. I will let it sit for a couple days and try it again. But I already know that this wine is going to be dumped down the sink. Nothing similar to any of the Tempranillos I have tried. Nothing. Close. Will not be returning to this location. I think Ill stick to The Wine Club from now on. Will update this review if the wine ends up tasting better in a couple days, but if you do not see an updated review, obviously the wine tasted like shit and ended up down the sink. read more

Very meh experience here. Happened to be in the neighborhood on a beautiful weekend day and stumbled across this wine shop / tasting room. It looked really quaint and adorable. The place is pretty tiny and there wasn't anywhere to sit so we asked if we could sit outside (yes!). The guy at the counter proceeded to ask us what we wanted or liked. I thought to myself, great start! I asked for a light, floral white. He proceeded to give me what tasted like a really fake oaky chardonnay. I asked if he had something lighter, maybe more herbaceous like a sauv blanc or vinho verde (he said no). I ended up with a glass of very unimpressive bubbly, ~$14-15 a glass. Not really impressed or happy with the experience. I didn't get a chance to look around the store so can't really comment on the wine selection but the wines we were offered based on our feedback were pretty off mark. read more

We extended our trip from napa to San Francisco so we could try some delicious natural wine. We were excited to try the wines at Ruby Wine on 17th street. We were NOT greeted by the curly dark haired gentleman behind the counter playing Cat Power today at 3:30pm on 4.12.21. We said hello & nice tunes, he looked up from whatever he was doing & mumbled thanks. After walking around the store & not told what services were offered we asked if we could buy a bottle and enjoy it at the beautiful wooden parklet outside. We were told that we would need to order food (no problem) but not that there is a cork fee, again (no problem- but would've been good to know when we inquired). We wanted a chilled wine so asked if we could look in the display cooler. He said he would feel uncomfortable with that even tho we are vaccinated & had masks on. So, instead he asked what we wanted. I asked what do you have? It's hard to say exactly what you want with wine... that's why you peruse around & read labels etc. Especially since every palette is different. We decided on a chilled Grenache. At the parklet he stomped up the stairs & slammed down our jars of olives & artichokes. I said thanks, & he stormed off without saying you're welcome. Not sure why this person was so rude/dismissive & overall, shitty. But we are headed to another wine bar that sells natural wine & are hopeful they are more hospitable. This place is a gem! My culinary classmates and I wanted to buy our front of the house instructor two bottles of French wine to thank him for everything he did for us. We had a price range and we wanted two types, a nice red and a sparkling white. The guy at the store took into consideration what we wanted, picked out what he recommended and we made the final decision. I was @ Ruby Wine last Friday afternoon with a handful of pretty knowledgeable wine friends. First of all we got a very pretentious indifferent standoffish, we know it all attitude from the staff which was surprising thinking of past visits. Especially when you end up buying 5 bottles of wine which was all pretty sub-par wines or worse, 2 of the wines we tried was a very sour near undrinkable Riesling incl a bottle of L'insolent red burgundy @ $49 incl drinking on site fee, not very good. At no point while we were there did any of the 2 staff members approach us to ask if everything was OK etc. There entire time there, about 90 min, a couple of customers or friends got all their attention more or less. Pretty busy afternoon...... Maybe my 2 cents will make a difference read more
