I adored this theatre so much! I come from a very small town in Puerto Rico and this theater reminded me of our hometown theater! It was beautiful inside, the staff was very friendly, and management even came on stage to give a bit of history and trivia about The Wizard of Oz prior to seeing Wicked! I grew up going to the Ruby theater every Saturday for the 13cent double features (in the 1950's). I looked very much the way it does now and it was the center of entertainment in a small town. I love that theater and love the historic value. So happy it is still there when I go back and drive down main street. read more

We had such a great experience at the Ruby. Excellent old theater that would work for many types of events. The staff was awesome. The Ruby Theater is wonderful old time movie house that has been in business for over a century. Do yourself a favor on a hot day in Chelan and swing by this beautiful theater to enjoy a film, a cold soda pop, and some popcorn. Bonus points for the huge mica shade chandelier. read more

This little theater has history and is classic! Very simple but yet friendly, comfortable and entertaining. Built in 1914, it was named after Ruby Potter, daughter of Frank Potter. Original seating capacity was 225 on the main level and 125 in the balcony. The theater was equipped as a cinema and as a vaudeville house. The Ruby has been showing movies for over 90 years, and is one of the oldest movie theaters in Washington state! read more

We always love visiting old theaters and this one is classic. Tiny, steep, angled balcony is a must see, but a core workout if you decide to watch from there. Nice staff, great photo history before the show and sound, lighting and temperature are all ideal. Can't beat the price and nod to bygone days. Worth a visit! read more

What a great place to enjoy Mary Poppins! The fresh popcorn, comfortable seats and friendly staff make this a must stop (if they have the movie you want). Only one Movie a week so we don't always get to go on our visits to Chelan. Enjoy! read more

A great historical theater with what seems like the original historical seats! The seats are cushioned and lean to one side or the other. Bathrooms are upstairs. The balcony of seats are a nice change from the main level and remind me of an "old school" theater. Oh wait, it is!! The staff is friendly and we love coming here. Our last event here was a comedy show hosted by Rotten Apple. Don't expect that new theatre luxury feel here. But don't discount or look down on the old time historical feel either. When you're in town take advantage of this rare opportunity. read more

If you enjoy watching movies in an authentic vintage setting, this is the place. It's wonderful! They've kept the old charm and service of a 1920's movie house. They have a nice concession stand and of course the movies are in digital and the sound system great. The only drawback, they don't have cup holders in their seats. Other than that, it's a great place to take in a film, have a date night and if you're a local (we are) a great place to catch up with neighbors. Highly recommend. read more

We took our 3 year old son to see Toy Story 3 earlier this evening. I was excited as I have been looking forward to experiencing the 'Historic Ruby Theatre' and he was excited to see Toy Story. Being our first time there we thought it would be fun to sit up in the balcony. Apparently there is a sign, a small sign, posted in the front regarding children sitting in the balcony. However, we did not see it and the workers who saw us go up did not say anything, nor were there any signs on the way up the stairs. Our son was sitting in a seat next to his friend, also 3, in the front near the railing. We were behind them and our friends beside them. Our friends child got up to sit with his parents and a few minutes later our son adjusted and we discovered that the seats were not bolted to the floor. Our son flew forward, smacking his forehead on the railing and the seats toppled on top of him before we could grab him. Come to find out some of the other seats were not bolted down either. And, while obviously not suitable for a child, are also not suitable for a grown adult. I am very grateful our son did not go over the balcony. When we took him downstairs to look at him, one of the girls working at the theatre showed her concern and even went to get something to make him an ice pack. Meanwhile, my friend called the manager of the Ruby. Instead of asking if he was okay she basically just commented that children were not suppose to be up there and well, that was it. I am not impressed with the way she handled the situation. I have however been contacted by the owner of the Ruby and she was sincerely concerned and a pleasure to talk to. I am only writing this because I do not want a situation like this to happen to anyone else. I have been told that they will put up proper signage and/or manage the balcony seating better. Overall, it was not a great experience and we had to leave well before the movie was over. My intentions here are not to complain but to create more awareness. I certainly hope changes are made and the theatre becomes more child friendly. I plan on following up to see that these changes have been made and at that time may consider changing my rating. read more

Loved it! Great vintage theater built in 1914, I think. It's been well cared for and restored. The seats are (thankfully) not original. They have a wrap-around balcony. Adult tickets are $8. On a very warm evening the air conditioning was perfect - not the gotta-wear-a-ski-jacket sort. read more

Went to "Gloria Bell" this weekend at the Ruby. Reasonably priced tickets and popcorn. A gal came on stage prior to the movie and explained a bit about it, as well as a little bit about the two previews of upcoming movies. That was a nice touch. The theater, built in the early 1900s, has retained its charm (but has updated, comfy seats) and shows current releases. How nice that there is a movie theater in town. A classic, old-time theater from 1914. Very charming. We enjoyed getting out of the heat for a matinee on our visit.

Talk about a down home theater! Allison welcomes you while she sells tickets, then she heads up to the raised stage to tell you something you would never know about the movie you're about to see, then you hear her climb the 1914 squeaky steps to start the movie. As you leave, she's surrounded by movie goers expressing their opinion about what they just saw. Makes you feel totally connected. All that and inexpensive concessions and comfy seats. A little slice of historical heaven that needs to be a part of Chelan forever! read more

First time I have ever been to this business, lived in Chelan for almost a year. My husband was born and raised in Chelan.. We took our 3 year old to the new toy story movie tonight. (his first movie ever in a theater) When our good friends 3 year old fell forward into the rail of the balcony seating due to the seats not being bolted into the ground. He hit his head on the rail and dumped his popcorn down on all the people below. Luckly he was not tall enough to go over the rail!!! Called the manager Allison and she gave no concern to the situation that had happened, just told me that kids shouldn't be up there anyway. Hopefully the owners fix this problem with the seats not being bolted down before a child does go over the rail and it not only a bump on the head. read more

We love this old theater. They start each show with an hostoric slideshow of pictures of Chelan in the good old days. Each feature film runs for one month. I love to drop the boys off and let them watch a movie while I go next door for a glass of wine. read more

I have had a home in chelan my entire life and finally decided after 20 years of visiting it was time to check out the local theater! The service was so appalling rude when I went in not once but twice that I couldn't even stand the thought of giving over the $16 to support the buissness. It's frankly embarressing that this is the way our only theater that is open no more than 3 hours a day chooses to treat paying customers. I can only hope there is a turn over in management or employees in the near future before the historic theater that has so much to offer is run to the ground. read more
