When we switched due to moving, my daughter was at first upset because at age 11.5 she was about to start pointe at the other studio. What I really loved right away was how she was immediately evaluated to see if she was even ready for pointe. Ms. Shannon did a fantastic job explaining in great detail where my daughter had a few weaknesses in her ankles, and proper body alignment. She was given detailed notes on how to strengthen and correct things to get her ready to start pointe. As a mom new to dance all together, I would have never known this if I let the other studio just put her on pointe without evaluating to see if she is truly ready. My daughter really took a good understanding of this and followed the instructions to work hard to get herself strong enough. The process may have taken a little longer but we both felt so happy knowing she wouldn't be putting her body at risk by rushing into it. Now she's on her third pair of pointe shoes and progressing more and more every class. We are so happy here and love all of the staff. I'd highly recommend checking it out if you're comparing other studios. My daughter is very happy we switched after all. She's making new friends and loving the variety of classes too.

The seasonal fare for us is usually entertaining and enjoyable, leaning I think to lighter comedy most of the time, with the occasional drama thrown in, I guess to let us really see the actors working! But, light comedy that is usually quite fun. The most recent example is "Scapin" adapted from Moliere, which is a delightful romp with great characters, and fast pacing. Back in September, I coordinated a group of almost 20 guests to attend "Trouble Man: feat. l Young" on October 4th. On the 1st, I tried to add more guests to our party but the event was no longer listed on their website. On October 2nd, we were provided unfortunate news that our show on October 4th had been cancelled as one of the female vocalists coming from out of town had caught pneumonia, and that sales of that particular show with 3 days to go were extremely low. But Margi was very communicative, and had processed our refunds in a timely manner, and was an absolute pleasure to deal with when I spoke with her to purchase our group tickets. I would patronize OTC again without hesitation, and look forward to seeing a future performance there. Kudos to OTC for amazing box office staff!

I can't speak to the quality of the adult productions, but as the parent of a child actively…read moreinvolved in San Diego community youth theater, I personally would not feel comfortable having my child perform here. I have significant concerns about the judgment and oversight surrounding youth productions, particularly when minors are cast opposite adults as romantic interests. I have also heard troubling accounts from members of the local theater community regarding how some young performers have been treated with little to no respect. Most concerning to me was a recent production that drew significant criticism over what many felt were inappropriate boundaries involving an adult and a minor in the cast. My understanding is that the directors involved were subsequently removed from the production following its closing dates. I was troubled that the circumstances were able to progress as far as they did before action was taken. When a theater works with children, I believe the owners and leadership have an especially important responsibility to know what is happening in productions operating under their name and to establish clear safeguards and boundaries for minors. In my opinion, the oversight in this situation fell far short of what I would expect from an organization entrusted with young performers. I sincerely hope the concerns raised by parents and members of the theater community lead to meaningful changes. Youth theater can be an incredible experience, but the well-being and safety of the children involved has to come before any production.

It has such a sweet small town vibe. Buy your tickets early if you really want to see the show because the venue is quite small. The hosts are incredibly friendly and funny. The productions are well done! Prices are reasonable. They sell raffle tickets and give out quirky gifts that are somehow related to the play. They offer free snacks and beverages during intermission. At the end of the show, the cast usually comes out and does a meet and greet.

Avo Playhouse is a repurposed movie theatre in Vista...a very cool revitalized area with quite a few restaurants and at least 3 breweries within just a couple blocks. We saw the Beatles tribute band "Ticket to Ride". Our tickets were reasonably priced and the venue is small enough (seating for under 400) that there really aren't any bad seats. As a bonus, I was really happy that the bathrooms were large and clean. Only real disappointment was that there were no refreshments. It would be nice to have something simple, maybe just water, coffee, and tea? Definitely worth going back! BTW there's lots of free parking nearby.

We bought tickets for the youth production of Anastasia and dear lord, it was SO FREAKING GOOD. We both cried. The kids were freaking phenomenal! The design, costume, and talent was 10/10! We were so impressed with their passion, cohesive change of set, and from the littlest actors to the seasoned stars - they all absolutely rocked it. The theatre seats were comfy and the temperature was comfortable without needing a jacket. No photos/video are allowed during the production and everyone was respectful and followed the rules, which made for fully immersing in the performance. There were light refreshments available at intermission (chips, candy, waters, beer/wine). We caught the matinee and it finished just in time to catch happy hour at 333. We'll be back again!! If you're thinking about going, do it! The Star is celebrating its 70th this year, so a perfect time to join the fun!

Do they plan to leave the theater doors open throughout the entire performance? This is definitely very different from Carnegie Hall... I should have known better. Joe Hisaishi would not be performing at a little theatre like this one... I would steer clear!!!
