The shop at Rubie's Attic is great, very shabby chic, with lots of nice signs with captions on that you could hang around your house and unique pieces. They have a huge variety of products and it is enjoyable to have a browse. On this occasion I also visited their cafe/tea room section. It is only small with a few tables. My mum and I had actually gone with the intention of having afternoon tea but you have to pre-order that in advance the day before, so we just had a sandwich and some cake. The shop and tea room is a family business, with the mother and daughter running it on the day we were in. Staff were very friendly but they seemed a bit overwhelmed which made the service a bit slow. (Which they did acknowledge abs apologies for). They have a small menu, with sandwiches and jacket potatoes and cake. They had run out of scones when we were there as they were reserved for those who had booked afternoon tea. So my mum ordered a panini and a slice of cake and I ordered a sandwich and slice of cake. My mum didn't like the coffee, she found it strong, despite asking for more boiled water to be added to her teapot and thought it tasted like cheap coffee from a jar. We both enjoyed our sandwiches (minus the small hair found on my mums plate), and the small salad and bowl of crisps you get with it, which was nice. We enjoyed the homemade chocolate cake, but we were a bit full by that point! We enjoyed the surroundings, it is very 'British' and quaint, they have made a good effort and you can see their vision, but it just needs a bit of polishing and fine tuning. Nevertheless, I would still return and next time I would try and order the afternoon tea in advance. I saw the afternoon tea come out for the table next to us and it looked very impressive. I also look forward to choosing some nice pieces for my home once I move in. read more

Rubies Attic is a gorgeous tea room and shop, I have visited a number of times and always find lots of lovely things to buy! The tea room is so clean and well decorated with a lovely atmosphere. I have had an afternoon tea and have also been for tea and cake and it has been amazing every time. All of the cakes and scones are home baked, the chocolate cake and chocolate orange cheesecake are my favourites so far! I would definitely recommend Rubies Attic to anyone looking for unique home and gift items, the homemade cakes are a must too. read more

After reading Lynsey Hs review I wondered if we had been to the same Rubies Attic! There is a lady and gentleman running the business who certainly did not seem over whemled on the day we were there and it was extrealy busy. The afternoon tea we had booked for was out of this world, on asking why there is a booking system for afternnoon tea we were informed it is because the cakes and scones are baked freshly each day. the menu is extensive, maybe Lynsey missed the specials board being too busy gathering information for her yelp review. I had the steak pie which is made by the local butcher, my friend had a smoked salmon bagel with large side salad, both were excellent. I enjoy coffee and I enquired which coffee they use, a top quality filtered coffee, maybe Lynseys mother is not aquanted with real coffee. Our coffee was served in a coffee pot as were all the other diners, again maybe a mistke by Lynsey if not used to real coffee. If I had found a hair I would have made the staff aware to allow them the grace to deal with the situation rather than write in a review long after the event, it happens in the best of establishments. There is no polishing or fine tuning required as far as I can see, the food is freshly prepared, high quality by lovely people within a great envionment. I will be making the owners aware of thier "critical review" as they have a no photography condition as I notice there are pictures attached to Lyndsey Hs review they will I am sure wish to pursue a claim for use of copyrighted material and artistic licence. read more
