Kai's has a nice play area outside, parking for strollers and very convenient hours. The center was always clean with lots of toys and the teachers really went above and beyond to create fun and interesting things for their kids to do. The bad: the ratios were off all the time. For my son it was supposed to be a max of four-to-one, but I often came in and saw five, six, or seven kids with just one teacher. Although everyone was always happily playing, so I tried not to worry. They have issues with organization. No one answers the phone. I would have to bug them for receipts and they would often take months to arrive. More problematic was that they never seemed to know what paperwork the state required. There was one instance where were given a 2 day notice about a piece of necessary paperwork they claimed the state surprised them with (apparently the papers we had been providing weren't enough, although we had given them everything they had asked for). However, our doctor required 10 days notice for paperwork so they could review everything before it went out. In the meantime, Kai's wouldn't let our perfectly healthy son come to school. We were sent home and still charged for the days they wouldn't let him in. Surprises like this are a huge problem when you're a family with two working parents. They also raised their rates by $15/per week which was a big increase to happen all at once (although they claimed they hadn't raised them in several years) and that put Kai's in the same price point as some of the nicer daycares in the area. They also don't provide any food for the students. My son was there for about a year until we moved to a different neighborhood. Had we stayed in South Philly, I still would have moved him somewhere else because the ratio issue really bugged me. TL;DR, Kai's takes good care of their kids, but could stand to be a little bit more organized and are a little overpriced compared to some of the nicer centers in the area.

The owner of this establishment is a hemorrhoid on the buttocks of our neighborhood. Located in E…read more Passyunk area of S Philadelphia where parking is already a nightmare they have decided to be so helpful and hire a towing company to harass, annoy, and generally piss off the block. The property is gated off which is wonderful for a daycare. The kids can play in the yard without running off, or hit by cars getting in/out of parents cars. The place looks to have been a 7-11 or similar. They have a entrance gate on the right side, south on ninth open during the day, locked at night. It's their other gate that is the bone of contention. It is currently non-functional. Chained closed, a finer metal gait or panel is secured across the length of the north 9th Street gate. 18 months living here and never seen it open, not once. It encloses the part of the playground area I believe. But since they want to have "24 hour access" to this mysterious non functioning gate they are allowed to have people towed, to the tune of $205 as soon as your car goes on that truck plus another &25/day storage after day one PLUS 20% tax on storage they have to pay the city. Yes, I checked with the police. This is legally their right they own the gate. They can be as douchey as they want to be. Yay neighbors.
