I have been working out for several years and have tried multiple types of classes, but this capoeira class gave the most thorough warmup, spending time on every major joint, and gave me a great introduction to techniques I have been wanting to learn for YEARS (handstand, high kick). Call for current class schedule, but as of today they have classes on Monday night, Wednesday night, Thursday night and Saturday morning.

A "gentleman" is at the gym at the same time as me speaking louding and dropping weights talking about "how he'd like to beat a b (expletive) into the ground." I have previously reported this man. The last time I did, the gym manager suggested that I get headphones so that I "did not have to hear him anymore." The manager also said "well he's a regular".... The instructors Miss Ronni and Mr. Aaron are great people, and they have a strong focus on developing young people. They have some really cool events for the kids and families...movie nights, Halloween party, Christmas party, training in the park, etc. The thing we love the most is their flexible schedule. Our daughter can attend any night that her class is available. We aren't stuck with only 1 ort 2 c lasses, and then have to worry about makeups. She can attend any of the four available nights.

You'll get a great full-body workout that builds strength, stamina, and improves your mobility. And it's FUN. If you come regularly you will experience results. Josh is the owner and so much more. He's also a kick ass coach and he does a majority of the programming. He keeps things spicy but all of the workouts are scaleable to your fitness level and ability. Josh is always encouraging and knows how to push you to be better, stronger and faster. If Josh is building an army, sign me up for the front line. The rest of the coaches are top notch as well. Chrissy, Heather, Cam, Phil, Marnie, JD, Shawn and Ali are all experienced athletes with the competence to instruct and push you. They will take the time to break down seemingly complicated movements to ensure proper form and make sure you are safe. The coaches are attentive and will ensure you get the most from your workouts. There's a huge priority on proper warm ups, stretching, form instruction, and scaling weights to your abilities. This makes it possible for new members and veterans to workout side by side and for everyone to get a great workout. On Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, Courtney is the yoga/mobility instructor and she's phenomenal as well. The community at New Species is amazing. We cheer each other along and help push each other through difficult workouts. We hang out and chat after workouts. People organize outings outside of the workouts (happy hours, house parties, pickup games, etc.). These people are MY people. I'm not the fastest or the strongest. In fact, I'm usually towards the rear of the pack. But Crossfit isn't about that. Everyone supports everyone. We strive to get better, but no one tries to be better at the expense of someone not as capable. Since starting at New Species I've put on almost 10 lbs of muscle (while my pants size remains the same!) and have taken over 1 full minute off my comfortable mile time. I'm doing things I never dreamed I was capable of and at 36 years old I am in the best shape of my active life. Forget Disneyland, New Species just may be the happiest place on earth.
