I reached out in November, closed in early December, and by mid-January everything was fully installed and move-in ready. Two months from hiring to completion -- and only about six weeks from closing to full installation. That timeline alone still amazes me. Shaolin and her team handled absolutely everything: interior design, purchasing all furniture and materials, coordinating and managing contractors for the TV wall, roller blinds, and ceiling fans, receiving and storing items, and final installation and setup. It was completely turnkey. I provided the budget, and she went to work. Early on, she asked me what vibe I wanted. I told her I wanted a vacation resort feel -- and that's exactly what I got. The space feels comfortable, elevated, and relaxing. Everyone who has seen it absolutely loves it. There was one pivot near the end when the couch she originally specified became unavailable. Instead of it becoming an issue, she adjusted quickly and the replacement ended up being ideal. Honestly, it worked out perfectly. If you're considering hiring Shaolin, the most important thing to understand is that you have to trust her. She takes the reins on design decisions and purchasing. There were a few individual items I personally might not have selected myself, but when I step back and look at the finished result as a whole, I'm extremely happy. We had a built-in hallway cabinet installed by Inspired Closets Hawaii and the entire experience…read morewas outstanding from start to finish. This locally owned company specializes in custom storage solutions, and their team really lives up to the name. They were professional, thoughtful, and so easy to work with. The finished product looks amazing and has added so much functionality and style to our home. In fact it's so seamless... wouldn't even know we put it there unless we told you it's an addition! All in, the cost came out to just under $4,000, which was pretty much on par with quotes we got from big box stores after including install etc. (the depth is only 10"... otherwise big box may have been cheaper if it was the standard 12"). Although it was slightly more, we felt much better supporting a local business that offered higher quality materials, better service, and a strong warranty. It felt like money well spent. The process was super smooth. They came out to our home to take measurements for free and brought a great selection of samples so we could start narrowing things down. After that, we met at their SALT Kakaʻako showroom, which is beautiful and very helpful to see things in person. That final walkthrough gave us peace of mind before placing the order. Kayla was such a pleasure to work with. She was incredibly helpful and patient throughout the design process. With Susan's support behind the scenes, everything came together seamlessly. They truly cared about the details and were quick to answer our questions or make adjustments. One small thing I might have missed in the planning process is that the cabinets are backless. That was a surprise, but in the end, it doesn't take away from how much we love the final look. It's clean, custom, and feels just right for our space. We are honestly obsessed with our new cabinet and highly recommend Inspired Closets Hawaii.
