When you're looking for delicious, authentic Indian food here in the Philippines, a dining room filled with Indians is a good sign.
We have a good friend that lives in San Fernando, who also happens to be a big time foodie. He never fails to find places that have good food, good ambiance and great staff.
Most places in San Fernando close early, it was our good fortune that Royal Restaurant was not one of them. We were greeted warmly and given a spacious, comfy booth. We perused the large menu while we listened to lively Indian music. We let our friend order for us since he's been here before.
WE TRIED:
- Masala Papadum salty and spicy but delicious
- Garlic naan was drizzled with melted butter. It was thin and airy, had a satisfying chew to it, and a crisp edge that had the perfect amount of char.
- Chicken Biryani was a vibrant and fragrant dish with tender chicken chunks buried inside flavorful rice. It was served with a delicious yogurt dip that I also used with the other dishes as well.
- Mixed grill meats were tasty; they were smoky and spicy. I liked the fish and chicken the most. I was not wild about the sauce that accompanied it. I ended up using the garlic sauce that came with the biryani. A decent sampler platter.
- Palak paneer - I'm not a fan of paneer so I'll let others pass judgement on this one.
- Mango shake was sweet and frothy
- Iced coffee has ribbons of chocolate syrup. This was frothy and delicious.
The staff took good care of us and we were stuffed with deliciousness by the end of out meal. Good thing we don't live that close, otherwise I'd be one fat cow mooooo! read more
