Our room was wonderfully clean (and I'm a stickler on cleanliness!) and the bed was so comfortable, especially after a long drive. It was such a comfortable and clean place to lay our heads for the evening. The hotel has a restaurant that I would also recommend. Breakfast was incredible - one of the first hotel breakfasts where I haven't had to douse in pepper haha. Well seasoned and well cooked, high quality ingredients. Jonathan is a wonderful chef. My husband said the hollandaise was one of the best he's ever had. I'd recommend stopping by for sure, and don't miss breakfast! Dependent on which part of the hotel you choose to stay in totally determines the quality of your experience. Be aware that the more you pay the more likely you will sleep soundly. If you get a room in the original wing then be prepared for overhearing conversations from other rooms and people passing through the corridor. caveat emptor ... STEER WELL CLEAR of a room next to the lift. There is no doubt that you will dine well here and the Lodore is famous for it's Spa. It is the epitome of class. The downside, the staff are in need of some serious hospitality training. This is a management issue and someone needs to take a long hard look at their policy of employing young people and then throwing them in to the fray. Not good. At all. You would have to travel a long way to find a Hotel in such a wondrous location but, then again, you will also have to travel a long way to get to Lodore Falls. You choose. #ipsofacto

Tourism is not extensive at Workington. The owners, Steven and Angela are really nice and do a good job of making sure you have a comfortable stay. I happened to stay in Room 10 on the second floor towards the rear of the building. The room was spacious, warm and clean. The bed was comfortable and I enjoyed three nights of blissful sleep. They also have free Wifi. At the moment they only do breakfast. I was told that they're in the process of refurbishing the hotel after which they will be able to provide a full dining experience. Talking of the breakfast, I was keen on a bacon sandwich. I had an amazing plate of sandwich on the two days I chose to have breakfast and got a good quantity of excellent coffee to wash it down. Again, no complaints whatsoever. They do have a policy of no food in the rooms, which came as a bit of a let down. However, according to Steve, they have had a few bad experiences of sauces and gravy being spilled on the sheets, which has resulted in this policy. So, you've been informed. Overall, if and when I have to go to Workington the next time, I would prefer to stay at the Green Dragon.
