One of those things I think that all Brits instinctively desire is a "nice country pub for Sunday…read moreLunch": this establishment in not-so-rural Surrey manages to tick all the boxes for me: - Plenty of parking - Plenty of tables in the garden (with a BBQ option) - Good food in generous portions - Good service They managed to score a quick bonus point with me virtually as soon as we sat down for lunch: the first thing the waitress did was offer "tap water" rather than trying to perpetrate the oh-so-irritating up-sell attempt for bottled water that has marred recent decades (for most of the UK perfectly drinkable stuff comes out of the tap: it wasn't that long ago most restaurants automatically put a jug of water on the table ...). So I'd definitely commend the Black Swan. UPDATE (Nov-11): After several visits, I'd now have to reduce Service from "Good" to "Generally Good" - there are unfortunately more than one member of staff who need some education about "Customer Focus" ...

It was served with chips and three different salads. A great kids menu too, with smaller portions of adult quality food. There's a definite relaxed bourgeois quality, if you are into that sort of thing. Dishes range between 9 and 15 pounds for lunch. I did have to sit in a chair that kept sinking back because it was half on brick and half on gravel, but the food and atmosphere made up for it.

Sitting…read moresouth of Heathrow, the Plough is a bit off of the beaten path if you're visiting London, but near enough to the Brooklands Museum in Weybridge that it's well worth a visit if you're in the area. The quality of the meal was fantastic. I ordered their petit filet with their creamed corn, a combination of corn, a touch of cream, spinach, onion and bacon that I'll make at home having tried it this way here. They butcher their own meat every day, and the filet was very tender, cooked as desired. The overall menu has something for everyone, and meat lovers are very likely to enjoy the options. The restaurant itself was lively but not so loud that anyone was shouting... a very comfortable place to eat and enjoy company. It's also dog friendly. I'll try to make it back again on the next trip through Heathrow... thoroughly enjoyed the meal.

I had the spicy scisciLian lamb which was very tasty. The Malbec by the glass was great and I drank some twickenham brewery Naked ladies pale Ale - good. I give it only 3 instead of 4 because of the highe prices. Maybe I'm just not used to this part of the country. I'd go back.

The menu, in my opinion, is just the right size and on a Sunday, offers 2 courses for £18.50. I chose the cod, smoked salmon, spring onion and lemon fishcake for starter. Which was served with buttered leaks and a creamy parsley sauce. It was a great way to start the lunch! For my main course i opted for the grilled fillet of sea bream which came with crushed potatoes, samphire, vegetables and a lemon, caper, tomato & parsley butter. It was cooked perfectly and i thouroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Topping it off with a HUGE slice of sticky toffee pudding for dessert, i can say this is a great place to dine. The service was exceptional and we were very well looked after!

Quick glance: + modern pub grub in traditional pub setting…read more+ welcomes dogs + friendly staff + some local ale on draught available - erring on the pricey side Full review: I came here for lunch on Saturday after strolling thought the Esher Landscape Garden nearby. The pub is charming, with nooks and crannies where you can tuck yourself into so you don't feel like you are sharing your conversations with the whole world. The menu offers familiar pub meals like chicken pie and pork belly, but the dishes are set in a modern way. The chef maintained substance above style, so you get a hearty, filling plate of food (ie. big portion) that looks appetising and enticing. The only slight downside is some of the prices erring on the high side. For example, the special dish of the day of steak tallies at £18. While I have no doubt it would be cooked to the customer's utmost satisfaction, I would rather avoid such high price tag at a pub even if I'm in the middle of Surrey.

It was a Sunday, which also explains the crowds (families, friends, etc). The Sunday offer of a starter and an entree for Pounds 19.95 was a good value. We enjoyed our starters (mushroom on sourdough bread, shrimps and avocado, butternut squash soup). The starters was 5 Stars across the board. What was terrible was the service time. We put in our orders 15 mins after we were seated. It's now 1.5 hours after we had been seated, and there's no sign of our entrees. Which is why I have time to type this in the restaurant. It was very difficult to attract the attention of any waitress. It has been about 45 mins since we finished our starters. A table next to us turned over with new diners after we had finished our starters. As we were about 10 mins into our entrees (served 1 hour 40 mins after we were seated), the table next to us were served their entrees (same roast rump, they did not have starters). So, it's clearly a management and kitchen issue, and not the crowd factor. We have to say that all entrees (roast rump and pork belly) were just average (2.5 Stars). Oops...the bill was wrong. They added an extra drink. Hmm..... Perhaps choose a weekday for your outing to this pub if you wish to give this place a try.

The facility is really nice with indoor and outdoor dining in a nestled in trees and shrubs. The bar is in the front with the dining in the back and outdoors. Good, varied choice of lagers and ales. Good menu selection generally well prepared. I had the duck recommend by another Yelp fan; although tasty it was a bit dry (hard to do with duck). My wife had a sandwich and was "pleased" with it. Seems a popular place that gets busy about 2:00 2:30. All ages, including some well behaved children. "Decently priced considering the area it's in." Service was good though a bit challenged when it got busy.
