This is more a review of the support staff, and specifically Brenda Q. My wife needed to be transported back from an ER visit a couple of months ago. Without going into details, Medicare didn't pay for the transport. I got some runaround from the hospital about how the charges were coded, but eventually I thought I had things squared away, only to find out my assumption was incorrect. And the way I found that out was because of Brenda, who walked me through the byzantine nature of Medicare claims and hospital discharge procedures. She was pleasant and informative, and took the approach as a teacher, rather than talking down to me. She also gave me some advice about how to handle any future situations, which I really appreciated. THANKS BRENDA! read more

Some of those drivers constantly break traffic laws by double parking, parking in the roadway, obstructing traffic when they are slacking off. You can observe a bunch of idiots on the road from that business. Judging from lack of conscience on these lousy drivers' part, how can you possibly entrust the rogues to safely transport a person in urgent medical need to where you want them to take you. One of such drivers looks like in his 60s! Still going for adrenaline rush on the job when your body has literally dried up with hormones??? I had the great fortune of having three extraordinary young men come to my house, Damon, Matt, and Tomas who delivered my sister to my home from a Hospice House. It was a very emotional experience for me because I had to take my sister back home because I needed her here. They treated her with so much respect. And they brought her up with expertise, and I was so appreciative how they placed her in the bed and brought her here and I just want to commend these three young men for doing such a fabulous job! A few days ago for gentleman came and transported her to the facility and I have to come in them as well. I did write a review on them Jeremy Jeremiah Terrence and Vince. They were superb. The first time I had ridden Royal Ambulance was over nine years ago when they transported my mom home from Alta Bates Summit, Oakland. This time my husband was transported from a skilled nursing facility in Alameda to Kaiser Permanente South San Francisco for a medical appointment at 11:45 A.M. The two gentlemen who tended to my husband were not only professional but also very helpful and attentive to his needs. They made sure he was comfortable for a long ride to the destination. It seemed like it took forever to get to South San Francisco, but we arrived safely. Thanks to Elias Martinez and Daniel Rodriguez for their assistance. They were wonderful. The rating is still a five star. I even received a complimentary purple barrel pen from Elias. read more

Royal Ambulance transported our father from a rehab center to his apartment. Our father's was actually going into hospice and in considerable pain. The process took a couple of hours because of paperwork and communication challenges between all the parties involved. I'm sure on some level this was frustrating for EMTs. I would've been! But they're clearly better people that me. :-) All three of them were so patient, kind and relaxed. They made it clear we shouldn't feel stressed that things were taking longer than expected. We were very stressed because of our dad's declining health. They clearly saw that and wanted to reassure us that it'd be OK and to not worry about the move. One of them (wish I remembered her name) pulled my wife aside to ask her how she was holding up. It was just such a human, sincere and thoughtful gesture. The three of them did everything they could to minimize pain from being moved onto the gurney, into and out of the ambulance, and into our dad's bed. They stayed in the apartment for an hour after the move to help the hospice nurse treat severe bedsores and help clean him up. They were all curious to learn from and support the nurse. In a period of tremendous grief and sadness, this experience was a moment of grace that helped lift our spirits high. It sounds cliche, I know, but in moments like this you see the best of humanity - true acts of generosity and kindness - and feel a profound sense of hope. read more

My husband injured his back and the hospital arranged transportation through Royal Ambulance on 3/22. Victor V. and Casey C. helped transport him. Victor drove as gentle as possible as my husband was in excruciating back pain. Casey was with him in the back. I commend Casey as he is very compassionate and treated my husband with dignity and respect. Victor lead the transfer process and lift team with great success. This company provided me with excellent service. My insurance company only paid them the contracted Blue Cross Anthem rate for a BLS transport out of the "in Network Facility " that chose them. I received a 2500 bill from Royal for the excess. I called and asked if they had a financial aid program. The lady said yes and to send in proof of financial struggles, said there WAS NO application to fill out. I sent in the paperwork, meanwhile they sent my account to COLLECTIONS. I called to inquire on the financial aid application, they said they never received anything from me. They informed me to send in proof of financial struggles (AGAIN) and no mention of an application. This time I went to the post office and sent it CERTIFIED MAIL. I tracked it on the USPS.COM website and it was delivered two days later, handed to a staff at Royal Ambulance. I called to inquire on the status, said they never received anything, I stated I was looking at the USPS website and it was hand delivered to them. She stated its better to get my email and for me to complete the application on email. I opened up the email and there was IN FACT a formal application. read more

Extremely disappointed with their scheduling. My mom had surgery scheduled today and they were a no show. I called at the time of the scheduled pick-up and they told me driver called out and they had no one available. They didn't even call to let me know ahead of time so I could try to make other arrangements. Even the day prior, I called to confirm the pick-up and they didn't have a reservation for her. After scrambling I couldn't find another medical transport to take her and had to cancel her surgery. I have no words to explain my frustration and lack of care/response. Had 2 ambulance rides in April 2022. Both were excellent. Problem was extreme incompetence of billing. Wasted much of my time starting with the letter they sent me. I called them and person on phone could not make sense of and called me back the next day. Here is where the real incompetence and waste of time started. A third grader could have communicated more effectively. In one sentence, she would say the answer is A. Next sentence she would say the answer is B. This resulted in much confusion and frustration. Statements she made were so vague that they could have been interpreted many different ways. I tried to explain to her that she needed to be specific, i.e. we were talking about dollars, not apples or horses. She never got that concept nor did she seem interested. It got so ridiculous that to get clarification, I had to say, "Could I go to court and testify that you said XYZ on this date?" She replied no. I asked why not. More vague language. Finally I said something equivalent to: when it is raining, the sun is usually not out. She replied yes, that is correct. If she had just said so 30 or 40 minutes earlier, she would have saved both of us time and that time would have saved her company money. How did this person get hired? Finish high school? College - like she assured me. read more

Back in January (New Year's eve) my father was placed on hospice and sent home to his apartment. It was a Royal Ambulance that came to pick him up at Valley Medical hospital and take him home. The EMT's were Ansel and Alicia and they were FANTASTIC and so helpful with my father in his transport home. To give some detail, my Fathers little apartment on San Carlos street was VERY small but both, Ansel and Alicia showed care and patience with the tight quarters and my father who was getting fastidious and impatient and just wanted to get to bed. Sadly, my father passed away last month and it's only now that I've had some time to go down the list of folks whom I crossed paths with to extend a tremendous THANK YOU to. We recently made the decision to transport our fragile 93-year-old mother to our home. We were all nervous about having to move her. There was no need for worry. Lara Garrison and Ben Potter, in Unit 443, were so kind and professional. They explained to mom every step of what they were doing and cared for her like she was a member of their own families. Royal Ambulance was dispatched to transport my mom from the hospital to a rehab facility in Los Gatos. As I was following them I realized they were headed the wrong way and flagged them down. They pulled over to see what was wrong. Came to find out they had been given the wrong facility name by the hospital. My big thanks to them both for being so patient and taking such good care of my mom while we literally sat in a parking lot on multiple cell phones trying to figure out what went wrong. With everyone's help it was discovered that the hospital dispatched to the wrong facility. The EMTs turned around and took her back to the hospital and got her safely back to her room and in bed. I cannot express my thanks for their calmness, patients and help in tracking down what happened and how to fix it. Their professionalism helped to keep my mom calm. The chatted with her, joked with her and kept reassuring her all would be okay. I will definitely request Royal Ambulance for her future medical transport needs. read more

I recently had the opportunity to tour Royal Ambulances location in San Leandro. I am a retired EMS professional with over 25 years in the industry. I teach the new blood, now. Sometimes, it can be difficult to keep a large group of EMS professionals smiling and motivated when they are working nights, providing patient care, and focusing on the safety of their patient and their shift partner. This is not a problem for the folks at Royal! I was impressed and overwhelmed by the friendly, caring manner of their staff. The ambulances were SO CLEAN, you could eat off the floors! They provide constant stats and feedback to their staff in a live-time format. The right hand, definitely knows what the left hand is doing. As for my hands? They are clapping. If anyone in my family ever needed BLS or critical care ground transport. I would breathe a sigh of relief if I saw a Royal Ambulance vehicle drive up to transport my family member. In the age of patients and staff feeling like they are just a number or a cog in the wheel, its so refreshing to see this new, empowering style of healthcare management. Go Royal! read more

Royal Ambulance, This is for the EMT's Nathan and Justin who saved me today when I got into an accident. They deserve 5 stars and more for their quick thinking and professionalism today, along with being GOOD HEARTED humans. For some craaaazy reason there were huuuge blocks of cement on the freeway and I could not avoid hitting one going really fast. It busted my tire and it was such a terrifying situation, I managed to pull off the freeway and Royal Ambulance was right behind me. They saw everything and stopped, they were so kind to check on me, making sure I was ok... they did everything they could to help me, replacing my tire for me with a spare, helping me with the fluids that had started to leak from my car, all of it. They were amazing, Theywaited until I had help arrive and were so kind to take care of me. I felt so much safer and more secure that they were there for me when I was just a complete stranger. They didn't need to do all that but they did and today I will have faith in humanity again. There was a misunderstanding of the pickup time for taking my husband from a nursing facility to our home. The first person I talked to gave me two different times and I was to call to clarify. I gave him my credit card info. When I called back I got a female employee who was rude, insisted on a pickup time that would have had my husband waiting for two hours from discharge until pickup, and insinuated that since I give my card info that I had agreed to the time. I said I was not going to pay almost $300 for a one way transport at their convenience not mine. The employee was snippy and handed me over to a supervisor who said it could only be at their stated time. I have gone with another company and will never ever deal with Royal Ambulance. I hope they do something about the snippy employee. read more

If I could give a one-half star, I would. This company overcharged my elderly (95 years old) mother. I called 10 (TEN ! ! ! ) times in the 10 days following receipt of the bill, which had cheerily noted: if you have any questions, call this number. Never a human being, just an answer machine. I clearly left name, telephone number, brief description of the issue. Never, ever a return call. No way to reach anybody in the billing department. Then the bill was turned over to a debt collection agency, that called 32 times in one week, several times at 6 am in the morning. This is elder abuse. When I finally reached a human being on the eleventh try, he told me that it was too late, I should have raised it earlier! But that "management" might consider to talk about it or call off the debt collection agency. But he couldn't promise. I asked for the name or telephone number of this mysterious "management." No. That is private. They have all private information on my mother (full name, address, Medicare details, etc), yet we're not allowed to have only the first name and telephone number or email address of this mythical "management" person? There is no accountability, just fake bills and then obstacles put in the client's way to try to resolve billing issues. The name Royal Ambulance is a misnomer. More accurate would be "Royal Greedy Rip-Off" ($2500 for a journey of 2.4 miles? Ridiculous.) Or Royal "Pain in the Behind" for their accounting and harassment. Watch your back with them; they overcharge and then hide. The people in the ambulance do their job well; their management and back office let them down and ruin the name of the company. read more

The EMTs were exceptionally kind and knowledgeable. They were very calm and soothing. One time, the EMT said he could not find my vein to start an IV. My blood pressure had dropped terribly low. He said if you pass out I am going to have to stick that needle in your foot. So don't pass out. He was so kind and helpful. I didn't pass out.
