If you're visiting Joseph Spine Institute it's likely that you've explored a lot of alternative avenues to alleviate your pain and improve your quality of life to no avail. You are hoping there are still some non invasive paths to be explored, but deep down you know that surgery is likely on the horizon. And, that's a scary word. I did a lot of online research before deciding that Dr. Nguyen with Joseph Spine Institute was going to be the doctor to whom I surrendered my trust and well-being to and I couldn't be happier with that decision. Not only is he an incredible surgeon, but he's an all-around good person. My appointments were never rushed, he answered every question I asked (even the ridiculous ones) and genuinely seemed to care about my well-being. He did not immediately recommend surgery as a course of action to reduce my pain. But when it was the last option on the table, he tried to alleviate my concerns while still being honest about the procedure, the risks involved and the recovery ahead. I am now almost 4 months post-op from an ACDF procedure (C5-7) and still have nothing but positive things to say about this office and specifically this doctor. My quality of life has improved dramatically and I hope I will continue to see improvement over the next few months. I am so thankful to this practice for the quality of care that I received. Coming from out of state I was expedited through their facility on two different occasions at a high rate of speed. I saw only two individuals. The doctor and his assistant, who did everything except administer the gas and the injections, including collecting the money. I received no relief whatsoever from my treatments at this facility. After paying thousands of dollars, I was certainly expecting a Better result. I would have preferred Less hype and salesmanship and better relief from pain.

A vivid memory I do have that was kind of.... Iffy in my opinion, was when I was in pain and sobbing before I got out of the hospital and he told the nurse to lower my dose on the muscle relaxer, while I was almost screaming in pain, Okay then. The receptionists were good, the office was tidy, it was nice, and a lot of the doctors and nurses were nice. I did feel like he was trying to dumb down everything he was saying to my mother like she was a teenager with no idea what was going on and didn't have a degree in nursing, which she felt was demeaning. But overall everything went really well with the surgery and with recovery (I did have a fall and they got me in that same day for x-rays to make sure I was okay, Cronen didn't see me but his assistant, Josh, did. He either arrived HOURS late and I had to wait for him or he didn't show up at all. The longest I was at the office was 6 hours. I needed an MRI and he refused saying that "X-rays didn't indicate I needed one" even though my arm is going numb, which indicates a pinched nerve in my neck. All of my personal doctors agreed that the issue was my neck. Previously, the X-rays for my back didn't show anything until I got an MRI, which showed bulging and herniated disks. I don't think he actually knows what he's doing or has just given up. I hate it when someone tries to mansplain things to me and that's all he did. Find a different doctor. The front office staff are nice though.

I am supposed to be seeing Dr. Neil Weisman. I've seen him once, the other doctor did an injection,…read moreand then my follow up was with a random nurse practitioner. She scheduled me for a follow up injection 5 weeks out, and the office was supposed to send in the paperwork to my insurance to get authorization. The office did not send my insurance the proper information, and on Oct 2, 2025, my insurance sent them a response saying they didn't send complete information. My procedure was scheduled on Oct 20 at 1015am. At 945am, the office called and said they canceled my procedure because they were having trouble getting authorization from my insurance. I called the office to complain about their last minute cancelation (my driver had used leave in order to drive me home, as required) and to ask if I could make a follow up appointment in the meantime to go over my pain management options, and also to make sure the office purple were actually sending in the information my insurance requested. When I called I was admittedly on the verge of tears, and the woman who answered not only lacked any sympathy or empathy, but she threatened to hang up on me, and I asked her to let me speak to a manager instead. I was blunt, trying to hold back tears, but I did not insult her, nor did I use any foul language. The office workers not only filled out my insurance authorization requests incorrectly, but they let it sit in the office for 18 days, and canceled 30 minutes before my procedure, giving me no follow up and no further information. Then, when confronted about it, they shut down and hang up. This is unacceptable under any standards for patient care, and I really hope the phone call was recorded so the manager can hear it. An emotionally distraught patient who is frustrated and looking for help or answers should be well within the parameters of care for a receptionist handling the claim of that patient. I have no way to contact my doctor as she forwarded me to the office manager who is not in office. Communication is abysmal, and they need more training on how to file for authorizations, and then respond to the patient in a timely manner.

RELIEF! This experience was tragic for us. But their experience & confidence in what they do made…read morelife so much easier for us to endure through the process beginning to end. My husband had surgery Dec 8, 2016. Before going in he had been having very high blood pressure, had several episodes of kidney stones, was in chronic pain especially his heels, knees, elbows & wrists, he battled chronic fatigue, sleep apnea, heart burn & extreme moodiness. Up to being on the stretcher going into surgery I requested pillows to help prop up his knees & lay across his lap to rest his hands on to try to make him more comfortable which he still was NOT. After going back to prep for surgery, have surgery & wake up in recovery approx an hour my husband was in better mood! He had his IV out & was talking. I asked him if he needed his pillows back & he said he was fine & wasn't hurting at all. When discharged a couple hrs later he was ready to eat! We went back to the hotel by shuttle & ate in their restaurant. He ate mild hot wings, blacked fish & seasoned veggies with lemonade to drink. Fasting for surgery and being about 4 pm (this is food & drink he generally can't tolerate on a normal day!!!) I was surprised he did well. When we got back to the room we played a full game of rummy with him wide awake (out of character with his usual preference to nap without being in surgery). After the game of cards he wanted Pizza so I ordered a pepperoni Pizza with great warning! But he tolerated it!!! That night he tried to get us up & on the road to head back to the Panhandle of Florida which took us 6 hrs to get there due to road construction & heavy steady traffic. When we got home he proceeded to go out to work in his garage! He has surgery less than 24 hrs ago. He has so much energy compared to before. He (we) now sleep all through the night without to 10-20 episodes of apnea that waked us up before each night. His blood pressure is now within normal limits & NO MORE bone & joint pain. He had a small growing lesion above his left eye lid for a solid year BUT it disappeared. I am hopeful he won't have anymore kidney stones. My happy, friendly husband is back! He had been missing for 12-14 yrs! This group of persons that work there were all extremely kind & informative. They answered questions I did not think of yet. The doctors are extremely confident about their knowledge & surgery of the Parathyrold. While we were there waiting for him to come from surgery we met people from New York and out West. One had previous surgery at a Mayo clinic but they were not complete in their surgery & she needed another so they referred her there. I am so THANKFUL for their practice & expertise! Worth the surgery!!!!!
