She actually stayed there and called me to get my wife's phone number so that she could make sure that the delivery landed in my wife's hands. The owner called my office (the recipient) i called her back and she began yelling at me about the person who took her call and message. I allowed her to yell, asked if she was done and wondered why she called me. She continued to yell and basically said its my problem since i didnt call her back fast enough too bad. My mom is ill and in the hospital, and though we thought she'd be released this afternoon that plan changed. I wanted to get her something because it's New Year's Eve. I saw that this shop was open until 1 p.m., which was great because I got there between 12:45-12:50 and planned to run in and grab a quick gift of some sort, definitely getting out of there before they closed up. Others have had a good experience so it seemed kismet. When I walked in the store the woman (I assume Jenny herself) was on the phone and she hung up quickly and I was hoping she could help me find something quickly. But when she came over she asked "how can I help you?" and after I explained the situation and that I wanted something small to take to my mom, she said that she was about to close and already had her car running outside and didn't have time to make something up. I hadn't alluded to that and didn't actually want to wait for her to make something up (both because I knew it was nearing their closing and because I wanted to get to the hospital to see my mom). She gestured to a plant that she had, but for many reasons I wouldn't get a plant for someone else. I thought maybe she'd have a gift item of some sort, perhaps not a floral item which would be fine. She told me that the florist at Advocate would probably have something. (I wasn't planning to stop and get something from their floral shop, which was good, because they were closed this day and the following). The whole time I was here I felt like I was intruding and that she couldn't wait to push me out the door. When have you ever been to a place where the employee (or in this case owner!) tells you that they have their car running outside?! That isn't meant to make people feel welcome or like you want to help them. I just don't even understand the point of her having been open her regular hours this day or even at all if she was on such a tight schedule. And she followed me out to take down her signs and stuff. I left empty handed, rebuffed by Jenny, and knowing that I'll never patronize this business nor could I ever recommend it to anyone given my experience.

I really enjoy this local establishment for plant needs! They have porch items (and even live…read moreanimals like turtles, fish, and birds) here, but I was mainly here for the plant nursery. It definitely feels extensive and organized with sections for soil, different climates/plant needs, and grade of plant. The indoor plants I've bought here are mostly doing great if a little neglected from my own care. We ended up planting some of the outdoor plants too early, but the quality was great overall. Given the late last frost date here, I would just wait to buy outdoor plants in the spring. The parking lot is extensive, and they have several community events as well as opportunities to host birthday parties for any age. Staff were really helpful and efficient at the register.

They have tons of plants and lots of plant supplies. I think we only looked at like half of the store, to be honest. It's a huge place, and I think that's one of the reasons I didn't love it. I like small neighborhood plant shops, and this was just super large. They have a lot going on here... in addition to the plants/supplies, there's a large bird cage in the store. I guess you can go into the cage? I had zero interest in that, but if you want to it's $15. I was sad that we didn't happen upon the turtle, though, because I know my daughter would have been thrilled if we'd bumped into him. They have a go fund me or kickstarter or something because I guess their lease is not renewed (wonder what that means for this strip mall from a bygone era), so I'm not sure what the future of the Jungle of Niles is. They are hoping to move--that's the reason for the fundraiser--but if you've harbored a desire to visit, I would stop by just in case.
