Another relative newbie on the scene, this massive space is quite an interesting one. To enter, you ascend up a sort-of secret door (basically around the corner from Boar Lane) and climb up steps lined with cinema chairs to reach the main room. Once inside, this huge warehouse-style area offers up games of ping pong, pool, beer pong, and a variety of seating areas. There appears to be a stage, although I've not been in when there's been live music on.
The bar itself has quite a pleasing selection of drinks. There's a bunch of ale and craft ale, which is always a good thing, and a lengthy cocktail list. Both times I've opted for a straight up daiquiri, and the first time this was a winner. The second time, it was pretty dire. It was a busy Saturday, on my second visit, so perhaps that had some affect? They also offer up a range of American style milkshakes, which look very tempting, and come in those huge metal beakers.
The system for playing ping pong/pool appears to be that you put a card behind the bar in exchange for a token, although hold on to it -- last time I was here a chap had lost his token, which left him unable to retrieve his card.
The atmosphere was decent, although perhaps a little manic for me on a weekend. (Yes, I am getting old now.) However, for a mid-week pint and game of pool, I'd be quite happy to while away the time up here. It's not been mind-blowing, but it's definitely been fun. More visits required! read more
