My husband and I had a small budget for our wedding, but wanted to find a place we could celebrate with about 75 people that would be close to our neighborhood. I had made all of the arrangements with Pat, the Manager of the VFW, and she was a really nice older woman who helped with the contract and getting the caterer set-up. I think we paid about $300 to rent the hall for 4 hours, and we put a deposit of $250 for the cash-bar, which is refundable if your guests spend at least that much through out the night. There are also hooks all along the walls that you can use to hang things for decorations, but there are limitations on what can be put up, or taken down, since it is a VFW. The hall is surprisingly nice (I didn't know what to expect for a VFW) and there is a small stage at the front for the DJ. They also provide standard round tables, rectangular tables, and chairs for events, at no extra costs, which was super nice. There was a good size bar at the back of the hall, with reasonable prices for drinks, and a small kitchen that the caterer could use to prep for the wedding before hand. The only thing I wish was that the hall could be entered from the front of the building instead of the back, because the front entrance is quite pretty, but the back entrance leads to a darkish hall-way that smells of cigarette smoke permeating from the bar downstairs. Once you are inside the hall, though, everything is great, and the price can't be beat, since it's close to public transportation and has plenty of parking in the lot out back.

I know the commander well and neither he nor the bar manager (who both process applications) would ever say something like that. They welcome all new veterans with open arms and, unlike the last commander, have instituted a policy of paying your dues if you're still serving. We also do NOT have a family and wife chapter. There is a Ladies Auxiliary and Associate Membership. EDIT: Better late than never edit responding to ST, There is no one in our front office named "Paul". This was brought up at the meeting held after I saw this review as well and there is no Paul on the Board of Directors or in any command/leadership position that is ever in the front office. Furthermore, they are not working to bar non-pro war groups from marching. The first review smacks of some sort of troll/wank. I am female, a veteran, a full fledged member and I attend meetings and am part of the voting process at this post. And I have to say, I'm pretty pissed that this crock of BS is still on here.

Staff are salt of the earth folks with one thing in common - respect for veterans. Nice surprise, the craft beer list is outstanding and the prices can't be beat, beers are always fresh and always something new to try. The catch is, you must be a veteran with overseas service time or a guest of such a member to be allowed in. Upstairs function hall (open to public for rent) has been freshly painted (no more dark wood panel everything) with new round tables. Throw some tablecloths and centerpieces down and this place looks pretty nice. The bar for the function hall is like stepping back in time, darkly lit with one tiny tv, some vintage neon beer signs, no stools, cash only. Bartenders know what they're doing, drinks are cheaper than anywhere in the city. They let you use the kitchen to cook for your event. Believe this is the largest hall in the city holding about 400 people. Overall could use some updating, but that's part of the VFWs charm.

Been going there since I was a kid with my relatives....I think the folks are great. Biggest issue is staying current with the number of vets leaving us. On December 8th I went to visit a friend at VFW POST # 7 on Social Street in Woonsocket, it was…read moreabout 2pm, it took a couple of minutes to get the bartender Fred's attention there were about 6 patrons at the bar. After a couple of beers noticed about 5 more patrons had come into the bar, by then it was 4:30pm. I noticed to my right a few seats over someone smoking a cigarette, then two woman to the side of me lit up their cigarettes and I then called over the bartender and asked him why are people smoking inside the bar instead of going outside to smoke as the law requires. He barked at me "don't worry about it " I am worried about it I shouldn't have to be breathing in somebody's second hand smoke, he said leave if you don't like it, another guy at the bar smoking screams at me I have stage 4 lung cancer ha ha, and I said to him that is a pretty good reason to quit, he said I'm the commander of this post and if I don't give a *hit if people are smoking in here then you shouldn't. After verbally jousting with the patrons as I was leaving, I was confronted by a patron who wanted to fight, I told him sit down you look and sound like a fool. Keep in mind these VFW posts are supposed to be for active or retired military which I am, l also question the personnel hired by this post...are they even veterans? Or handed the job as a favor?are they certified? Hoping the city of Woonsocket looks into the daily smoking that magically happens at 4:30pm daily.....I give this facility one star.

This was the best experience I've had planning an event, which I've planned plenty. The Staff on the day of event was more that accommodating, they were pleasant, and willing to do anything needed to make the event the way we envisioned it, From Nik going the extra mile helping us set up the back drop!!! The room was set up beautifully and all Nik's recommendations where perfect. The bartender Kristin was pleasant, happy and fast! The waitress Kathie.... was more than accommodating, she was on the go... if we needed something before I could look for her she was there and ready to help. There was no leaving us to figure anything out, they literally took care of it all. My biggest thing is service always and the staff and facility were exceptional! We'll definitely be back for any future functions. A & T Dalton

He's very friendly, organized, professional and a phenomenal communicator (always made himself available for a phone call and responsive via email). We had tremendous confidence in him and it's one of the main reasons why we chose the venue. The other two primary reasons is that the venue is beautiful (it's a hidden gem) and the food is excellent (we are harsh critics and confirm it's great). All of our 100+ guests raved to us how beautiful the venue was and the food (food comes from the restaurant downstairs - go there for dinner!). Thank you again Nik along with all of the wonderful staff. We will always remember you all and your generosity making a rainy day nothing short of perfect!
