Art + Wine = Salted Cod. And, you must go!!! Have you ever been to a cool place that you keep telling everyone about and can't wait to go back? Well, look no further than The Salted Cod Arthouse. Both art gallery and wine bar in one small hideaway located in Gloucester and did I mention its on the water. :) I was here for the first time back in May and could not wait to surprise my husband for his birthday in August. We first dined at 51 Rocky Neck (about a few doors down) and then came here for dessert and wine. It is a neighborhood gem tucked nestled in between some gorgeous homes. With an art gallery on the right side and a wine bar on the left, I know if I lived here I would come here all the time. That is what the locals do. You can tell everyone who was here the other night knows each other. Just imagine meeting all your friends here for a glass of wine, dessert or light bite. And checking out the art too! They have a nice selection of wines since the owner is also opening up a posh Italian Wine Bar downtown (Coming Soon). He definitely has great taste. Every wine that I tried and ordered was excellent. I highly recommend their chillable Nebbiolo (red) wine and Lambrusco. They also have a small menu with desserts. We ordered their Pistachio Cake which was superb. If you ever get a chance to come here, you will love it. You can sip and shop all at the same time, just don't lose your seats at the bar. A very popular spot for a reason! This was our first outing on our first visit to Gloucester and we had a great time. It's a combination art house/gallery - wine bar in a building that used to be a cod fishery. So that is cool! They offer food, but it doesn't feel like a restaurant - more like a bar. Sitting on the water, amidst the art was relaxing and entertaining, plus the art is for sale-so shopping is an option. The service was friendly, and really welcoming. They greeted us when we arrived and told us how long they think till a table or a spot at the bar will open. And then they educated us about their amazing wines! They have a pretty incredible selection! The food menu is perfect as a tasting menu and very sufficient for highlighting the wine and satisfying my hunger. We chose 3 tapas plates, then added a fourth. Without a hesitation, I would return here! read more

Salted Cod Arthouse is part bar, part restaurant, and part art gallery - what a dream! I sipped on a Rockport Brewing's Pescato Italian Pilsner while browsing the gallery. The views from here are just incredible as well, go at sunset for a breathtaking photo opp! & how cool to be able to purchase 2 beautiful prints and get to meet the artist who happened to be working that day?! read more

Finally got to rocky neck to have a day of bliss starting our day here.great Arthouse with a small tapas style menu and a very impressive wine selection. We noshed on spinach artichoke bites,pan con tomate,and a beautiful cheese board.friendly staff that informs us that you can sample any wines before making your choice,nice touch. We stopped by this wine bar four times in a week. The prices and pours are great and the atmosphere is amazing. The service was friendly... just as the patrons. We met really fun people and enjoyed the atmosphere. Great stop for wine or beer. We also had the warm olives. Mmm! All the food looked very good. read more

Ok ok to the tourists and locals alike this place is the bees knees and the honey pot of Rocky Neck and Gloucester hands down. I'm not the owner or a friend but better someone that gets to spend my time here on the good side of the counter . If you visit or tourist don't let ur time not take you here the staff are brilliant and the food is bloody lovely so much so you will leave wanting to review. Really wanted to like this place but the service was awful. There were maybe 15 people in the small bar area and the bartender seemed to be completely in the weeds, even though she was just pouring wine. The countertop was wet/dirty when we sat down and was not cleaned. We waited 15 minutes to put in our wine orders and another 15 to have them poured. We were considering food but based on service we decided against it. We left an excellent tip and revived no thank you or goodbye. Just because you have a restaurant in a cool place does not give to license to be dismissive towards guest. It's giving hipster douchbag, not salt of the earth sailors and everyday New England folk. read more
