We had a very disappointing experience with this company. Before booking, I specifically explained our situation (flooded basement) and made it clear that I wasn't sure whether we needed an electrician or a plumber. I was explicitly told that the technician they send would be able to assess the situation and guide us on next steps, as they are trained across multiple areas. However, the technician who arrived immediately said this was not his responsibility and that he couldn't help. No assessment, no guidance, no attempt to assist -- just a $200 charge for a visit that provided zero value. This felt very misleading. If the company knew they were sending someone who could not handle or even evaluate the situation, that should have been communicated upfront. Charging customers for a service call without providing any actual service or direction is not acceptable. I would strongly recommend confirming exactly who they are sending and what they are qualified to do before booking. read more

We called Rowell's Service for a AC issue. We were advised that the trip fee for the tech would be $99.00. The tech arrived to diagnose the issue and provide an estimate for the required work. I was then advised the charge would be $250.00 for the time it took to diagnose the issue. Before any work was started, the cost was $350.00. I would never hire a company who charges $350.00 for the tech trip and the diagnosis of the issue. read more

Called for a clogged sink, the lady said there would be a 99.00 trip charge, reluctantly I said yes, so 3 guys show up and quote me 543.00, thought my brain was going to explode, this is just a clogged sink mind you! So basically im paying for 3 guys to unclog my sink, had i known this i would have told them not to come, I sent them on there way without doing the work they still had the nerve to ask for the 99.00, since then rowell has called twice asking for the 99.00 and twice I have told them im not paying a trip fee for that ridiculous quote read more

I have used Rowells services for the past six years for plumbing, electrical, septic and most recently mini splits installed last summer. I've spent about $25,000. and was a loyal customer. This spring I had them come and perform the yearly maintenance. After doing so one out of the three units installed had a horrible smell. Services came back six times telling me I had dead animals in my wall, then a leak in my roof, holes in my attic, then blaming it on nests in my attic and finally a leak in my radon pipe. Each time I got a specialist to inspect my 15-year-old house. After constant deflecting each time they came, and inspectors laughing at their opinions, Rowells put a scope in the wall to tell me I had mold. I had mold remediation come and take the wall down to discover that the mold, in his professional opinion, was a result of the mini split unit leaking. There was mold only under the unit in the insulation. None on the top or the sides. He showed me and wrote this in his report. I put all the paid bills together and submitted documentation to Rowells. I was told by the manager they would figure out if it was a result of the manufacturing or an installation issue and be reimbursed. The result of the wild goose chase and deflection was just under $5000. including each specialty that came to the house, remediation, drywall, paint and finally mold testing. The manager came to my house taking pictures and changed his story telling me if I wanted reimbursement, I would need to go through my homeowner's insurance, and they would have to fight Rowells insurance company. On our last conversation he tried to threaten me by saying and I know you had your house power washed too and that he was hoping there were holes in the siding because that would have made things easy. Yes, they did install a brand-new system and took responsibility for that but not for the costs associated with issues from their product being defective. When I asked for documentation on the unit they were supposed to inspect, he went silent. Furthermore, this manager was rude and condescending. I was surprised to learn that this is a female owned company with the way he and a few of his workers treated me. If anything goes wrong, they will not stand by their product and do anything to blame the consumer. read more

I figured routine maintenance was overdue on our water heater and our propane boiler. Upon inspection, they told me I needed a release valve on the water heater and quoted me a price of about $250. I passed. It turns out you can buy the valve at Home Depot for under $30 and it simply screws into the top of the unit. Then they showed me a whole bunch of crud in the boiler and told me that updating some equipment should make it last for another few years -- for $2000. I went for it. Upon completion, when I asked for an itemized bill, I was told we don't do that. We charge a "flat rate." So I don't have a breakdown for parts and labor; and I'm not sure what they did for $2000. I don't even have something in writing to ask someone else in the business if the bill was fair or if they could have done better. I'm not sure; but I feel I have been conned. read more

From the time my son spun the wheel at the Rowell.s tent at the Hopkinton State Fair and won us a free furnace cleaning, we have had nothing but excellent customer service and great, professional, and friendly employees working in and around our home. We had then replace our furnace and change our old hot water heater to heat through the furnace, inspected our septic system, replaced and re-plumbed our master bath, and fixed and replaced some outlets. Soon they will be back for a remodel of kitchen and new bath! Excellent sales/service technicians! Highly recommend! read more

I have had nothing but positive feedback on septic service and furnace install . However when I had a hot water problem, they promptly came out and diagnosed the problem albeit at a high cost. Since they did not have the part, a second visit was required. Fine. The problem is they wanted to charge almost as much to install the part. I feel the fact that they did not have the necessary part does not mean that I have to pay for the second visit. I would have gladly paid for part but not the cost of a second visit because they lacked the replacement part to begin with. Very disappointed. read more

We've been using Rowell's Services for some number of years and have been pretty happy with their service. We started with septic service, the original focus of Rowell's, where they were expensive, but very reliable and trustworthy. We've more recently been having them service our boilers and furnaces as they've expanded into these areas as well and, although their prices are double what we've found from other companies, they've been just as reliable and trustworthy.... Until the pandemic. Since the pandemic struck, we've had no end of scheduling issues with Rowell's. We book appointments month in advance as they require that you be available anytime during the day of the appointment as they can't specific a time that they will arrive on site. Earlier this year, we had blocked out time for an appointment and received a call the day of the appointment that the technician was out sick. Fine, that happens, but they couldn't schedule a replacement appointment for weeks even though they had failed us. We rescheduled for early July when we had another window of opportunity. We reconfirmed the July appointment a week in advance. We then called the night before to get an estimate on when the technician would arrive and everything was fine. But then, two hours after the technician was scheduled, we received a call that they'd have to cancel as some of the other jobs ran long and we'd need to reschedule for later in the summer. Now Rowell's is not only double the price of other companies in the Lakes Region, but they're also completely unreliable and I would dare say arrogant. This was a great company but, whether it's workload, a shortage of staff, or changes in management, the company has gone downhill fast. We'll be looking elsewhere moving forward. read more

I got the septic tank at my house pumped for the first time. The guy came nice and early and was very knowledgeable about the septic tank, patiently answered all my questions. They charged $350 not sure if that's the standard price but everything went smoothly. He was done within an hour. read more

One of the pipes in the basement sprung a leak right before Christmas and after throwing a saddle clamp on the offending pipe, I called Rowells to see about having it permanently fixed along with another issue I was having. Ian came ot to the house the next morning, made some recommendations on replacing the patch jobs that had been done by previous owners. I ended up having Rowels replace all the domestic water plumbing in the house along with replacing the cheap sediment filter. The day after Christmas, Gregg and Ian showed up exactly when they said, and had the entire job complete in half the time they estimated at half the cost I was expecting to pay. To say I am pleased with Rowells would be a gross understatement! Highly recommended! read more

Mixed feelings. The ladies in the office provide excellent customer service. It is the field staff that need some additional training in my opinion. I was scheduled to have a sink replaced that I purchased and also get a quote to replace my shower valve. I was scheduled for a morning appointment and the technician didn't show up until 2pm and he said he was just told he was coming for a quote only. Mind you I took the day off of work so that I could have my sink replaced. While quoting the job, I explained to the technician what type of shower valve I wanted and he said he would have that ordered as well as a garbage disposal. Four weeks later the technicians arrive without the garbage disposal (which they did go and get) and I thought everything was all set. I was not able to be home when they performed the work. When I got home to check the work I found a very small leak under the sink, my kitchen window was open and the wrong shower valve was installed! Also, when they installed the shower valve, it was put in backwards (if you turned it to cold, it went hot and vice versa). They came back to fix the shower valve position, could not find a leak under the sink and said they thought I had a tenant living in my condo so that was why the window as open. I tried working with the owner about getting the correct shower valve installed and she was going to follow up with the tech who quoted the job. She said I would have to pay for the new valve and the labor to put it in which I think is wrong since I already paid for the initial install (I paid a good penny for the work) on top of paying for the sink separately. I had high hopes for working with this company, however my experience has shown otherwise. read more

We can't be happier with Rowell's Services. They performed the Septic Inspection of a property we made an offer on. Time was tight and they came right out. Eric did the inspection and found issues with the leach field as well as some of the piping. So now, 24 hours after the Rowell's inspection without that company having verified the existence of a drain field with the Town Building Dept., the buyers who contracted to purchase my home have now terminated the contract based on the Rowell's inspection. I will be consulting counsel to consider whether to file suit against that company for interference in my contract by their negligent preparation of their so-called inspection report and statements made about my property to the contract buyers that resulted in the cancellation of the sale. read more

Rowell's installed our standby generator with the promise that they would do annual service. I called in May for a service appointment and was told November was the earliest. Made the appointment for Nov. 2. On Nov 1 they called to inform me that the are no longer able to provide the service and have known for some time that would be the case. It is now November and the chances of my getting someone here to service a generator installed by another company prior to winter are low to nil. Absolutely poor service, poor follow up and will never use this company again. read more

This was my second time using Rowell's (first was many years back for emergency service in the winter and no one else wanted to come out on a weekend). Just needed a simple septic pump. I appreciated the text notice with live map showing where the driver was before getting to our house. Technician was friendly, polite, neat, and did a great job. Separately, decided to replace the cap on lift pump riser - was scheduled for 2 days later and that was done nicely as well (including taking the old cap away). read more

Be careful when reaching out to this company. I was charged an emergency fee to have someone come give me a quote - between the quote itself and the emergency fee I paid $350 and didn't even consider hiring them to do the job (water heater replacement) because their price was almost twice as high as what I ended up paying (and significantly higher than all other vendors I received quotes from). One incredibly helpful person from another plumbing company that I talked to said I was the second young lady THAT DAY who he'd heard from who felt taken advantage of by the way they charged that emergency fee, which felt very shady. When I initially reached out to Rowell's to let them know I was unhappy with the situation they didn't even bother responding. Then when I let them know as a courtesy that I would be disputing the credit card charge and posting a review so nobody else feels cheated like I do, they responded immediately but basically said they did nothing wrong. The company I ended up using was Squam Lake Plumbing and they were fantastic. Robert Bell from Robert Bell Plumbing was also incredibly helpful and kind. Both great options, just don't go with Rowell's. read more

Their website claims "24 hours every day of the week" yet when I asked to book a weekend inspection I was told that they typically don't work weekends and asked if a Wednesday worked instead. called rowell for an emergency pump-out and a clean-out of blocked pipe. they scheduled the pump-out, than called back 4 hours later and cancelled -- said "find another service." they called back the next morning to schedule the pipe clean-out for that afternoon -- then called back several hours later to cancel that too. read more

They were friendly don't get me wrong but they literally walked into my house without knocking. I'm a young women so this isn't something I appreciate but I'm pretty sure you knock on someone elses door before you enter their house. I went downstairs to open the door and they were already standing in my house. Also, I had a bill of $135 for 30 minutes and no work was done. They couldnt find the problem, they didn't perform any work or used tools or took anything apart, just looked around. Pretty unacceptable price for doing NOTHING. They basically told me that I probably left a wet towel on the floor or washed my hair and water flew out of the shower. OK that DOESN'T happen and that is NOT why I had water leaking all over my basement. Thanks but not calling them again. read more

Extremely expensive they bill every minute the service technician is at your home to include the breaks they take. We used them three times so far and have been very unhappy with their work quality and pricing. The first time we used them was to replace the kitchen sink, three toilets, and a bathroom fixture, they sent three people and it took them 8 hours to complete the job. While they were replacing the kitchen sink they had to widen the space for the sink but they did not cover the open water lines and sawdust got into the lines. This made the faucet unusable while they were here, they then replaced the faucet without clearing the lines but were able to get the second faucet running. They stayed on the clock the whole time even though it was their fault the first faucet did not work. 3 days later the second faucet failed due to the sawdust in the lines and the sink was leaking at the drain, they tried to charge us for a service call for a failure that was their fault. They replaced the faucet again and sealed the drain, the faucet is not installed correctly and now needs to be held to use it, I will not call them back to fix this. We called them one additional time to come look at our furnace the service technician was excellent this time and ensured we knew the time he was charging us for, he settled the bill with us before he left and we thought we were done except for the recommendations he made to fix our furnace (he only got it running but it was a temporary fix and he was upfront about it). We got a call two days later after we had settled the bill with the service technician, who had been in contact with the office while he was at our house and told us he was getting pricing and other details from the office, telling us we owed them an additional $200. How can you charge someone after you have settled the bill with the service technician, and after he had been in contact with your office on pricing if there was an issue at that time with the bill it should have been brought up then not 2 days later. I cannot recommend this company to anyone. I am a disabled veteran and cannot do these simple repairs anymore due to the pain they cause but if this is the type of service I receive I will go through the pain so I am not ripped off! read more

Came in to do a septic inspection for a home seller and 100% misrepresented what they did and the state of the system after having a 3rd party run cameras through the unit. I had this company offer me a $360.00 special for servicing my hot air furnace,and my propane water heater.Since i've had the 22 year old mobile home for 3 years without any service or clean-out,i thought it would be a good idea. I set up an appointment,they came on time.Results ? My furnace works badly now,rattles,smells like kerosene and is so noisy i wish i had left it alone.Oh yeah, my hot water heater keeps going out, i have to relight it several times a week.5 weeks later my furnace kept overheating and shutting off @ 3 in the morning,I called emergency service and asked them to come in the morning. They brought in 2 "technicians".one worked,the tall one watched,they told my wife that there was too much snow around my low chimminy. One of them took 3 minutes to put up a stepladder and take down a few shovels full of snow.The other tech,said he hat to replace a little fresh air pipe. I can't find it.everything there is old. I asked them if they warranty their last tune up job.they said not its different .they charged me another $226.00 for that 3 min shovel job.I wouldn't ever let them work for me again,I even went to their new office building to complain but to no avail.I guess i paid their new mortgage for March.Don't get caught in this trap,Sincerely Paul lemay read more
