I never in a million years imagined my family nor I being in the position we are in regarding our…read moremost recent project on our back patio. Our Archetict drew us a beautiful 26x24 Cathedrial styled Gable patio. I did my research. I interviewed and researched 4 GC's, and multiple trade contractors. I decided to hire Lane Yeager with Great Expectations Roofing and Construction LLC upon reading numerous great reviews, seeing an A+ with the BBB and after his professional presentation of himself, his crews and his company. I decided he was the one. Please know, this job required expertise for our entire back patio ceiling was to be demolished to bring our new vision to light. Also, before I receive any comments about hiring someone cheap.... he was NOT the cheapest company we received bids from, but he definitely had the best reviews, rating with the BBB etc. We were promised his crews could achieve our project within 2 weeks! Set us up for great expectations, right? Our project was a mess from day one. He showed up virtually every day, as a 1 man show. This was far too big of a project for 1 man. He ever so often would bring in people he was referred to that could "help". Note:::The majority of which had no idea what they were doing with him willingly admitting it. He did hire in a framing crew, that did a beautiful job! So the bones are great; thank God! But everything else, isn't. The issues were faced with include the following : 1. We are NOT structurally sound, due to our wide spans. ( he did not have our spans measured ensure installing what was needed for structural stability.) 2. Our roof was roofed the wrong shingle color. ‍ 3. Our posts are not the correct size. 4. He damaged thousands of dollars worth of material, by using framing nails to install our tongue and groove.. by using a 16 ft cedar board he butt together on a 26 ft. span. 5. He has left our attic exposed for now 57 days. 6. We have lost insulation due to attic exposure. 7. He braced framing to finished product- our patio concrete 7. He damaged the following, not inclusive to our job. - Our Fence - Concrete - Guttering - Roof - Electrical Outlet & Wiring - Our built in Grill - Our Hot Tub Cover I'm sure there is more. Chris (my almost 8 year old) spent 2 full days helping me clean up the mess they had left inclusive of trash, wood, nails, shingles, etc. I have to date paid over half of the job, and am left with an incomplete job, upon excess damages and he refuses to make things right or even address the issues at hand. He continues to argue we are structurally sound, this is right, etc.... when in all essence it's not. By the Grace of God this is fixable! We have already ripped it back down to where someone can come in and address the issues at hand. It's just sad! I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. This is a project my husband and I have set our hard earned money aside for and now what we thought was going to be x $ of dollars is going to be a lot more, due to his inability to have done it correctly the first time. On the other hand I am so thankful I am the one experiencing this vs a client I have referred someone out to. In my industry we are always referring people out and at the end of the day, their performance falls back on us! My point in posting this embarrassing experience, is to spread the word of how important it is to ensure you are ON TOP of your projects you hire to be completed, and to ensure you do the intense research it takes making sure you hire the RIGHT contractor. Reviews aren't everything. It breaks my heart someone can do a blow and go on a family that works so hard for what they have. Please beware!
