I was lucky enough to get a tour of this place by the owner herself, Ms. Jeanette! This place is definitely one of a kind, with something for everyone! I'm going to touch on a few of my favorite things about Route 66: Their selection of soaps. They have some soap that is 100% organic, and others that have great designs in the bar of soap. So many scents too! Be sure and grab a sample if you don't get a whole bar. I should also mention this soap is super reasonably priced! Clothing. For starters, all the clothing racks look like art and are made from metal scraps. They have many different styles of clothing so there is plenty of dress up to be played here! Its currently a little out of my college student price range, but maybe one day, right? Locally made chocolate. Need I say more? I've been a customer since I was 13 years old, and somehow I have never reviewed this wonderful store. I can't imagine why... maybe Janette is such a cool woman I think of her more than the actual shop itself? There's really no excuse for not having shared the glory that is Rt 66. So you can't talk about Rt 66 without talking about Janette, the darling owner who doesn't seem to age or change in all the years I've known her. Shopping with her is like being inside a shopping montage in a movie. She lights up while helping you find the perfect outfit, and then she sort of swirls around you, adding jewelry, scarves, accessories. She makes bold exclamations and clasps her hands over her mouth when you've found "the one". She's one of the only stores in the metro carrying Nanette Lapore, and she decides what she will bring back to OKC during her frequent showroom visits in NYC, her hometown. She carries my favorite designer, Black Halo among others. She also carries hard-to-find jewelry by artists like Alexis Bittar- one of the other places you can find this designer is in the gift shop at MOMA. My brother has been taking me shopping here for 20 years, and when we went in the other day, having not seen him in years, she knew exactly who he was, and wanted all the deets. She connected him with a restauranteur in Seattle, connected me with a dress to wear to my bachelorette, and we had a great time. Side note: the dress I wore looked for all the world like a piece of silk on a hanger. I was like, nah. She was like, oh please try it on. I did and it was perfect. Lesson here: Jeanette always knows best. She also carries a vast array of gifts: journals and handmade soap. Purses and belts and necklaces. Frames and clocks and lip balms and bookends and vases. Lots and lots of wonderful cards. Ladies: Do not miss it. Men: Go there and find wonderful gifts for your ladies. Better yet, take your little sister or girlfriend or wife or older daughter and let her pick out the dress of her dreams. I guarantee neither of you will ever forget it. read more

Thanks to Yelp's community email about gifting local that highlighted Route 66. I stopped by yesterday to browse and see what else I can get for gifts. The store has a lot of great gift ideas and it was fun to browse. The employees were great. I got a tour of the store and they highlighted some products that I might like for the people I was shopping for. I basically got a personal tour that made me feel very welcome. If I did not get a tour, then I would not have found some of the cool things I ended up buying as gifts. They also did an excellent job wrapping my gifts. They put a lot of hard work and effort into making customers feel welcome and informed. Customer satisfaction is easily one of their top priorities. I liked the jewelry section. It has great jewelry from various parts of the world. Nothing too fancy. Just very good quality and great designs. Definitely a stop in the future if I am looking to get some jewelry. I got some handmade soaps for myself and others. The soap section is great. There is a huge selection of soaps to sniff out and choose. Definitely great gift ideas. I also got some samples that I look forward to trying. I am sure that there is no other store that has anything like this. I also got an "Incense of the West". It comes in three designs: horno oven, tepee, and iglesia. You basically light the incense and when it burns you put it in the plate and then the oven, tepee, or iglesia on top. They have holes where the smoke comes out. It is a good addition to any home or space. Each one comes with 10 incense wood things. There are also other incense flavors that you can get separately. Finally, I got a picture holder that would be a good change from traditional picture frames. This is a gift as well. I really liked the night lights that have various glass designs from an artist in Seattle. They are made of mostly recycled copper. They would have great gift ideas as well but I didn't want to go overboard. :) For the females, there is a selection of clothes that would spark interest but naturally I did not browse the clothes much. There is definitely something for everyone in this store. You can shop for yourself, others, or both. Full Circle bookstore is downstairs and Belle Isle Brewery is next door too. I had a great shopping experience and look forward to my next visit. read more

This is fantastic store for any unique present and last minute outfit. It is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for--the staff is phenomenally friendly and knows the inventory so well. One young saleswoman named Madison worked with me, and she helped me find a great present for a friend when I had no idea what to get her. The store is very eclectic and although most things are high-end, there is a good range of prices. I would recommend this shop to anyone. And they have really great soap too! read more

Route 66 earns four stars for having an interesting, eclectic selection of goodies and the most deliciously scented, beautifully made soap in the world (they even give you free samples) but misses that fifth star because most things in the shop are pretty pricey (not a shock given the location). Most of the clothing looks like it would just the thing for Stevie Nicks if she were a SAHM- comfy yet artsy. And they have a lot of lovely, unique jewelry. Really though, visit for the soap. The soap is fantastic. And they wrap it very nicely with lots of curly ribbons should you make clear you're giving it as a gift. read more

The store is a rare find in OKC. Very eclectic array of items, local and small distributors. Simple, yet stylish clothing, unique items such as Oklahoma themed belt buckles, hand crafted soaps, retro gift ideas, local jewelry designers. Very charming. The only problem is the staff: they are too friendly, believe it or not. They will go on and on and on and ON about a product line that you (I) show only minimal interest in, then on and on and ON about another. I like to browse, and have salespeople near to answer questions, not be followed and told the history of every item I show a mild interest in. This is my favorite boutique-type store. They have a ton of unique, funky things, which makes it perfect when buying for the people you haven't been able to find anything else for. It seems like everything there has a story. They have an inventory that sometimes changes according to what is available from their sources, but enough of it stays the same that you have a good idea about what they're going to have. My favorites are the items made out of the layers of paint chiseled off of overpasses--it doesn't sound cool, but they have to be seen to be believed. They also have great coasters and bowls made out of old records. But of course my favorite is the soap. I love the free samples too :) I gave bars to all of the women in my family last Christmas and had a great time picking the best-smelling ones, of which there are many. Things are definitely expensive, especially the clothes, but I don't expect anything less from a store like this. The staff is extremely accommodating and very friendly--to the extent that I would suggest you don't come here for the first or second time when you don't have time to linger. The first couple of times I was here, the owner and staff made sure I knew all about any product I was looking at. Now that I'm a regular, they don't smother me so much, which is fine by me. But they are still available to help me when I'm looking for anything specific. They literally took apart the store helping me find possible gifts for my family's silver-themed Christmas party last year, and wrapped this year's psychedelic-themed presents in every single ribbon color in the store. Great store for unusual things, but the clerk would not give me a chance to just look around. I stopped to look at something and the clerk was there just yapping ALL the Time!!! Worst shopping experience EVER, worse than a car dealership. She took 20 mins of my precious time pushing the lavender product, I finally had to walk away, looked at shoes and there she was again letting me know all about the shoes, went to the soaps and there she was again yap, yap, yap.
