My wife and I found out about Richard and the forlks at Roundleaf after we were refered by our CPA. We had been developing a practice and property in Santa Cruz Co. and had spent a lot of money with a partner to do it. When the Plans were finaly approved the partner wanted to leave a so wanted to be repayed for development costs and also to be bought out of the practice. The practice was young and so while the staff was paid we paid for operating costs and food on credit cards. We were in a very deep hole for a very long time. I eventually calculated that my kids would be out of college before we had paid off those cards. When we met Richard the first thing I reallised is that he talks fast! But I found He thinks very fast too. He explained the process in short order and helped me separate the emotion/guilt portion from basic money facts. This was no simple feat. He told us that we could be out of this debt in 2 years (we asked if we could accelerate it to one year and he made those arrangements on the spot). He said that 9 months after pay off we would be able to rebuild our credit back to where it was! It looks like it might take 12 but that sure beat the 7YEAR hit bankruptcy would have given us. He told us we would be able to negotiate down our debt to 1/2 or even a 1/3 of what the card companies were asking, and he did. What we did not plan for was the IRS counts debt forgiveness as income so we had a huge tax bill on 'income' that was never in my pocket. How did the major Wall street banks get off with out paying....? That being said the total is still well below 1/2 of the original and the IRS let us work out a payment plan. He told us he could even help make the bill collectors stop calling. We collected the numbers off our caller ID he sent a cease and desist letter to each, and one by one they stopped! That really made my wife happy. We were worried about fraud or ID theft when divulging This much private and secure info to any group. They gave us copies of all documents, and every thing was verifiable by third party companies. The funds to pay off the debt was not even held by Roundleaf it was held in a very secure escrow account by a third party, and funds were not released till we authorized them. Richard and his crew provided us regular updates on the progress and answered emails with in 24 hours (usually less). We needed a lot of hand holding. Now that we are out from under we are looking to add a little room to our home and Richard is even putting us in touch with the best lenders and loan package. That's service. In short if you find your self in this awful life circumstance for what ever reason, you would be hard pressed to find a more competent, considerate, or efficient group to help you out. Deciding to seek help for debt is a hard thing to do. After many years, I decided enough was enough. I started my search through google and went to the first company with a good BBB reputation. After completing a short preliminary process, I went to the next step and that is when it started becoming hazy. I immediately stopped the process and went to Yelp which is what I should have done first. The top suggestion was Roundleaf and the high rating is what got me. I did not have to wait long for an appointment and I was able to come after work (6PM). I worked with Richard. It meant a lot to me that the CEO is taking part in the first step. Most CEOs don't even know what is going on right below them let alone at the very bottom. He was completely knowledgeable and answered all my questions. He gave a thorough explanation of the entire process. I felt comfortable and there was no judgment at all. This is not just a company that you pay to eliminate your debt. It is an entire financial consultation. He gave budgeting advice and really personalized the experience. Roundleaf's goal is to help people. Richard made it clear at the beginning of the meeting that if he thinks he can't exactly help you, they will not take your business. We were looking for financial/credit coach who could help us to fix our credit score and came upon with the Roundleaf. We had done our search and read the reviews on Yelp, finding Roundleaf. We had a meeting set up with Richard based on the reviews. One of the first things we really liked was he respects his clients, he has the upmost professionalism. He does not criticize anyone's life style or financial past, instead, he shows aggressive ways to save up and has the ability to help one understand true goals :-) . However, do remember, it is for your sake that you have to work on the goals. So, we will mention some things but they are not really negative things. As person who speaks the financial "language" he seems to speak fast for me which was not easy to catch up. However, he explains things very clear when I asked. (Or one could always ask Richard, as explaining to a 12 year old :-) ). He also left the room to us when we need to discuss our options privately. One of our children drew artwork on the table in waiting area while we were in the meeting with him. We offered to clean the table. He thought it was funny and said we can keep the table if we want to preserve our child's artwork. We were really surprised which was unexpected result. I can not say enough good things about Lorena, Lindsey, Kevin, Sarah and the Roundleaf team! We just finished the program after 8 months and finally moving to our Rebuild phase. We were able to reduce our debt by over $40k and our credit scores are already in the upper 600's! I came across Roundleaf on yelp seeking knowledge on how to improve my credit score. I called Roundleaf I left a message and within minutes I got a return call from Lorena and she gladly scheduled me a consultation on a time and date that worked for me considering I would be driving over 50 minutes for the appointment. On the day of my appointment I was running a few minutes late I called Lorena and informed her I was going to be a few minutes late. Years ago I had signed up with a non-profit credit councilor, but he just made suggestions for me to persue. My debt hounded me for the years that followed, and finally one creditor was able to secure a judgement against me- I panicked. This is an overdue review!! I have finished my program earlier this year with Roundleaf and saved over 15k in credit card debt!! This was amazing because when I first came I was thinking about BK and they saved me from doing so. Originally when I came, I had over 25k in credit cards and collections paying almost 30% interest. I called for an appointment and was told that the first meeting was free. I was impressed by everything that happened at that meeting but wasn't 100% sure that I should enroll even though so many people gave good reviews on yelp. I wanted time to think about it. Before I had time to arrive at a decision, Lorena contacted me and made a request that I write a "truthful review" on yelp based on the one meeting. That didn't seem right to me nor was it fair to the reader. I replied that I could only write a review after my financial situation had improved. And then I began to wonder about all those great reviews I had previously read on Yelp about Round Leaf. After the mortgage bubble burst, my credit was impaired to say the least and its caused my finances from auto loan to credit cards to rate hike. My initial consultation was great.
