There was a bit of everything for everyone at all skill levels for the guided activities - horseback riding, skeet shooting, archery and electric biking. For those who weren't interested and unable to participate, there were lawn games like corn hole, fishing, people watching on the deck, pool, hiking and more! Food was served 3 meals a day at the same times. Each meal was so delicious! They even kicked off our first dinner with prime rib and ribs then a taco bar and finally spaghetti and meatballs. They hosted evening activities after dinner, which kept our group entertained. From live music, karaoke night and bonfire and s'mores, our group really enjoyed karaoke night, maybe a little too much. Aya and the staff went above and beyond for our group. From bringing a birthday cake and cupcakes to celebrate one of our employee's birthday to mowing down the lawn for a company ceremony we held that night, they truly understood what it meant to host such a special trip for us, without us even asking! Not to forget to mention, they even shuttled our employees from a hotel to the Ranch daily, multiple times a day. They were able to secure a larger vehicle to fit all 12 employees. I started out a bit cynical about the high pricing per day per person of all the dude ranches I investigated and drove to Greenhorn probably in more of a negative skeptical headspace than I should have. If you read any of my reviews you will see that I'm also a tough customer and critical but fair reviewer. So when I say that if I could I would give this place TEN STARS, take that to heart. It's in an absolutely dreamlike location, a 60 acre ranch dropped in the middle of a 500,000 acre idyllic forest with over 60000 acres of accessible trails. The place is laid out like a small western town with saloon and chuck house to eat. The rooms were surprisingly stylish comfortable and well appointed. The shower had great pressure and hot water and our creekside cabins sat on the stream with a view. The food is basic, ribs and chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch but that what I like and I will say everything including the steaks were well flavored and cooked perfectly. Is the place overpriced. Yes but I would gladly and happily return so I guess it's worth it. I've been to many horse riding places including Arizona and Wyoming and I have never seen healthier or more beautiful well cared for horses anywhere. There were over 60 horses and literally every single one was magnificent and well trained. They also carefully review your preference and skill sheets and make sure to find you the perfect horse both to match your skill level and desire. I always wanted to ride a paint like Little Joe from Bonanza and when I got to the corral for my first ride there was a stunning paint with blonde mane and blue eyes waiting for me. The rides are indescribable with valleys and vistas and mountains and it's more like exploring the frontier than a typical nose to tail operation. THE STAFF: I don't know where to begin. The office staff including and especially Stella and the kitchen folks and every single person we met was welcoming warm kind friendly and charming . And genuine. They made us feel like family and we made fast friends some my daughter may have made for life . I have never been anywhere including luxury 5 star resorts with a better staff or better service . The wranglers including Kadence, Katie, Avery, Jim (Sebastian) and Adrian were actual genuine cowboys, incredible skilled riders and wranglers, consummate professionals who put safety first while making every ride more enjoyable and memorable than the last. Troy the bartender was fun and funny smart and entertaining and a hell of a mixologist. He made me custom creations better than any I've had in upscale clubs and restaurants in NYC. One day I was out by the pond and as I drained my water glass he appeared with a water pitcher and a towel over his arm like a sommelier pouring me wine . He said "more water sir?" The whole thing was a joke and we shared a laugh. My 22 old daughter was heartbroken when we left and we have been all over the world and I've never seen her feel that way about anywhere including Maui or Paris. We are planning on going back in October and probably the rest of our lives . Run don't walk to Greenhorn with your whole extended family. Ten Stars!

My family and I are on a road trip and opted to stay the night in Susanville. It's New Years Day 2026 and we assumed that most non-chain-brand places in a small town like this would be closed, but we gave Side Iron BBQ a call and were pleasantly surprised to find that they were open. Upon entering the place, we immediately knew we'd made a good choice. Side Iron is located inside the Pioneer Building and is dripping with legit old-school frontier ambiance combined with touches of classic Americana. There's an antique piano and fully-functional vintage pinball machine in the entryway, and as you pass into the main dining tall you'll find a full-scale pool table, a shelf of classic board games, a foosball game, and even some well-maintained acoustic guitars placed around, all of which invite visitors to not just scarf down a meal, but to hang out and have a great time. I've had the good fortune to eat BBQ in Texas numerous times and it has basically ruined California BBQ for me - certainly nothing I've had in the Bay Area can really compete with what I've had in Texas. Despite that, I had a good feeling about Side Iron so we went ahead and ordered a variety of items - brisket, pulled pork, a sausage link, fried okra, mac and cheese, jalapeno bacon corn, and even a burger. I'm delighted to report that this was hands-down the best BBQ I've ever had in California, and is right up there with the best BBQ I've ever eaten, period. The smoked brisket in particular was a real standout: tender, juicy, and with delightfully crispy burned edges. I seriously cannot overstate how good everything was. If Side Iron was located within 50 miles of San Francisco, there would've been a line of "food influencers" three blocks long and we would've paid 2-3X as much for this meal. The fact that we were the only patrons on New Years Day and enjoyed this incredible feast for a fraction of the price we would've paid closer to home is genuinely incredible. If you like BBQ and you're EVER anywhere near Susanville, you absolutely cannot miss the chance to try Side Iron!

We happened to be there when there was no moon - the stars and Milky Way were amazing. Bonus - as we were stargazing around 10:45 pm, we heard wolves howling in the hills. So haunting and beautiful. The cabin was a perfect size for my husband and I. The king bed was comfortable, the bathroom floor heated and the rain shower was a fully walk in shower. The bathroom was all in stone. Beautiful. Good coffee maker with plentiful pods. The water was very drinkable. Two chairs inside to relax and read. Ceiling fan and a gas fireplace for temp control. There was also a standing fan if we needed it. (We didn't) It was 97 during the day but temp dropped to high 50's at night. We were very comfortable. The restaurant was excellent. The food was delicious and the drinks very well prepared. The morning breakfast included with the room was off a menu - you could choose what you wanted. The staff were super friendly from check in to restaurant team to the groundskeeper. We were there in a thunderstorm - the only con was the running and pooling water across the path from the cabin to the lodge and the waterfall off the roof on the steps and ramp. Thank goodness we had raincoats and another pair of shoes. We have Verizon and had no problem with Internet, text and calls in the cabin if we chose to engage. We didn't try streaming. The lodge wifi was very strong. We didn't notice road noise but maybe we were heavy sleepers. We'll be back.

Then when I got home, I found out one of the pizzas had chicken on it when I had ordered a veggie pizza. And since they close at 7 PM, but don't have it listed on the website I can't call and ask for a replacement. So I am out the price of a medium pizza.
