An extremely creepy update to this review. I just got a call, years later, from this guy Dino Barak demanding to have a "man to man" conversation about my years old review. Since Dino left the store years ago, I have found the store to be staffed by nice people. I shop there regularly. Even order from there regularly. Everything was fine. And then Dino re-appeared a couple of weeks ago. And when I was buying what I wanted, said in a very menacing way "oh, I remember you! I was always there behind the scenes!" I thought umm okay, whatever. It was years ago. And then today, out of the blue, I get a call from a 212 number. And it is this guy. Hassling me about my Yelp review. This is very creepy and scary. That this dude just goes into store records and calls me up to hassle me about some old review. So there is no concept of data privacy at this store? They have my credit card info too btw. This is extremely creepy, people. ---- P.S. just read the response. And the guy still doesn't seem to get that the concern is data privacy. If every business started calling customers on their personal cell phones to debate reviews, then no one will post reviews Responding here, like you did, is the way to do it. Not call someone up at night on their cellphone. That's a very entitled thing to do. And if you still don't get why, then it's even more concerning. And intimidating. read more

Everything about this establishment is great: * The employees give amazing recommendations! I'm usually a Vivino app user (wine ratings), but here I just go with whatever the staff says. I have never been disappointed, and have discovered some new favorites. * High-quality selection of wines. When I have used the Vivino app there (before I started talking to the staff), every bottle I checked had a fairly high rating, so you can't really go wrong. * Diverse price points. As much as I like wine, I try to stay in the $8-$18 range and this shop has a lot of options on the affordable side. read more

The price differentiates according to the customer. The labels on the wine bottles have two different prices. They'll charge you more if you don't pay attention. I chose this champagne and price 16.99 was written on the hang tag, when I gave them my card they charged 75.00 and showed me the flip side of the tag. So I didn't buy it and got my refund. I checked their app, and the price is 45.99 for the same exact bottle. This is either dishonesty or callousness of the owner. Neither of which is expected or appropriated. Over priced store. I will never step foot in here again. Cork has a far better selection, customer service, etc. - I only stop in here when I am in a hurry and on my way home from work. Still, the owner is consistently rude and acts as if he is doing you a favor by waiting on you. How can you own a business and get away with that? I came in to buy a small bottle of brandy for sangria I was making. My total was less than the minimum for credit card usage by about two dollars. The owner looked genuinely annoyed, asked if I had cash (obviously not) and suggested I purchase the bigger bottle. I declined and walked out of the store without purchasing anything. So, he saved a dollar by not allowing me to use my credit card but he lost the sale and every other sale I might have made. read more

Nice store and decent selection but I would caution anyone from buying more than they are planning to drink that same day because they don't stand by the quality of the wine they sell. I bought 8 bottles of wine for thanksgiving. One was corked. I brought it in today and the owner says I have 24 hours to return it. Apparently, it's because they want to "test" it themselves. I thought it's a simple thing to figure out: If I have two of the same bottles and one is good and the other is bad, there must be something wrong with the bad one. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. Union Square and Astor, or any other respectable wine store for that matter, that are quick to exchange the wine and make it right. read more

Would you look at this - a new wine and spirits store in Stuy Town conveniently located along my walk home from the office. Score! Since this spot is new they seem to have slashed the prices on a ton of great wines. I was in the mood for an Argentinean Malbec and I was directed to the Simonassi. Apparently it's a super limited production - 1,000 cases per year. For the unknowing, that's a remarkably small amount of wine to produce, so when I saw the price at just $12.99, I had to snap up a bottle. Had some great banter with the shop keeps at Rouge & Blanc as well. They even recommended a few restaurants in the 'hood where this bottle of wine would be best paired up. I ordered a bottle of Tito's from this shop. They are located a bit over one block from my apartment. It took them two hours to deliver. The delivery guy dropped the bottle off at the wrong apartment. The delivery guy returned to my building and ten minutes after I buzzed him in he arrived at my door. He had to negotiate with the people he left it with to get back my bottle of vodka. This used to be a reliable establishment. They do have the best prices in the city but best to pick it up yourself or maybe order the day before you need it!! What a mess! read more

I have been in here several times and I always have superb service. The layout of the store is really refreshing and open. Employees are always very happy to help but not pushy whatsoever. Very unpretentious, yet I've surprisingly heard him speak French to some of the international customers. Incompetent pricks. I was nice enough to correct their grammar on the label of one of promotional products. The young Asian guy got really pissed at me, said he doesn't care and I can leave his store. I thought I heard him wrong but then the lady from Pepe Yllera that was giving me a sample of wine looked really scared and repeated what he said. She was also shocked. He signaled for her to not give me any additional samples. I walked out and he actually walked after me to the door. I felt not very welcomed. This is probably one of the best liquor stores in NYC. The staff is extremely knowledge and welcoming. I don't live in the area but always stop by when I'm in the EV. If I did live relatively close, this would be my go to spot. They have a great selection and a price point for everyone. Prices are extremely fair and compete for some of the best in the city. 10/10 would recommend to anyone. read more

I called several places nearby stuy town to try to find Skinny Girl cucumber vodka. Apparently most NYC liquor stores do not stock it. This was the third place I called and the owner answered. He said they didn't have Skinny Girl, but they did have Crop organic cucumber vodka, and he promised it would be delicious. I asked what time they close (11 on a Friday), and he said they do free delivery. I paid over the phone by credit card, and it was a fairly easy process. The man was at the door with my vodka within 25 min as promised! My only critique is it was fairly expensive at $26 for the bottle that isn't that big. Plus, I tipped the delivery man. Maybe it was the vodka being organic, but I hardly know what that means in terms of alcohol and that was just the only option they had. Will probably go back for the cucumber vodka but will want to go in store to browse more. read more

I was purposefully overcharged more than 3X the cost of a bottle. When I went to check out, the man behind the counter nonchalantly scratched off the sticker on the bottle, which I gave little attention to at the time. When I realized later that I had been charged $30 for a small bottle of Svedka, I gave them an anonymous call and asked how much they sold that bottle for (surprise, it was under $10). These people are clearly lacking integrity in their business. If you have to shop here - check your receipts and ask for the price before handing them a credit card. read more

Rouge & Blanc is a welcome addition to 1st Ave. The managers/owners and staff are lovely. We've been introduced to some great new wines. We're big red kind of people. They're always able to find something perfect in our price range and have not disappointed yet. The generous discount to Stuy residents + delivery is super. We've been out of the city for the past two tastings, so fingers crossed we'll make the next one. Thanks guys! Update: Have to kick this up to 5 stars from 4. Was just wrapping up non-stop guests from the past 3 weeks and getting ready to take down our recycles. As I sorted through the empty wine bottles, I was amazed. I am so glad this place is near my apartment. I don't know a ton about wine, but am trying hard to learn, and this place has become a fun place for me to stop by. Unlike other stuck-up NYC wine establishments that always make me feel like an idiot (ahem, Cork), I always feel comfortable, recognized, and welcome here. One employee in particular [and I regret that I do not know his name... yet!] is such a standout. (He usually wears his hair in a small ponytail?) He is helpful and eager to understand what (::I think::) I am looking for. He never rushes me, even if there are other customers in the store -- he makes each person he is helping feel like they are his #1 priority.
